This is an execution of MrOkimoki's video "Super Mario 64 DS - 8 ways to get on the top of the Castle w/o 150 stars" • Super Mario 64 DS - 8 ... (with the exception of the cheating way) to show how to get on top of the roof without a cannon with Mario, Yoshi, Luigi in emulator quality.
All of these methods have been known for a very long time and I'm unsure of the earliest documentation, although there used to be a website called mariods.tk (it has been squatted, do not visit it now) that covered many Super Mario 64 DS glitches and tricks.

I always went on the roof by using the hill at the right side (the one without the waterfall). With Yoshi, I flutter jump and before landing on the hill, I use his tongue to slide higher on the hill. It's a slower method, but this always worked for me. Your Mario Walljump method was really impressive though, I've never have seen that before. xD
If only most of those were possible in Multiplayer as well, the pointy roof parts are actually steep slopes, meaning that you'll slide away... I wonder why they changed this in single player/multiplayer. Maybe it has to do something with an old collision map from Super Mario 64x4 back then??

Yes, it's interesting that the collisions on that map are different in multiplayer. Yeah, there's documentation that a Super Mario 64x4 demo let you explore the map in multiplayer mode but I sadly wasn't there to play it and don't know if the collisioning was different.
Interestingly, an invisible wall in the air seems to stop you from trying the first Mario method to get on the roof in multiplayer mode.
With the Luigi (and maybe Yoshi) left castle side method you can get on the roof, but there are collision errors where your body goes through parts of the roof. The fence, 1-Up and ? block isn't there and you can move through the tower part.
***** Yeah, all of that's true, I found that out myself too, I wonder why it is so different though. Seems more of a programming error than an actual lazy forgot-to-edit-the-collision-map thing. xD
I think that the collision is different so that nobody tries to get up it like that, but idk.

i remember easily doing mario (wall jump way, the tree way was too hard, my sister could do it though) and luigi, everyone else was too hard. Remember the first time i did it with mario i was on a plane and got so happy but i couldn't scream out of joy cuz i was on a plane while everyone was asleep.
I remember trying to get onto the roof with luigi using that method, but I'd always screw up at some point
You know, slide kicking up the hill on the right side is a lot easier than any of these.
See, this is why you have to be frame-perfect at wall jumps in 64.

I had never seen the second walljumping method before, that was interesting.
Also, the tree clip works with both Mario and Luigi.

Using the slide-kicking technique up the hill on the right side works with all characters, not just Wario.
The Mario alt can only be done if you haven’t drained the moat.
Another way is long jumping at the bottom of a tree then u fall into hidden water and swim into cannon without it unlocked

Why don't simply use the tree glitch to go under the grass and into the cannon?
That's in the video here th-cam.com/video/LyQ19bs0JOM/w-d-xo.html but if you've drained the moat you probably can't get into the cannon and must use other methods.

I think it was a combination of d-pad forward and some timed R/A or R+A.

This glitch at that tree will never be patched, the last time that this game was updated was many years ago, but this game is this year on 21 november 14 years old, man the time flew by, actually i was’nt Born when this game came out 😂 i was born 7 months later, and i completed this game when i only was 2.5 years old i dunno how i did it but Yeah i did it🤣

this doesn't work for my dsixl... lol (Yoshi doesn't jump when he's sliding down waterfall, and Luigi can't back jump more than once)

A secret star is in it you have to get the 8 glowing rabbits to unlock it
But after you get the star its just a useless white door

is the roof REALLY worth all this effort? maybe in the original sm64 it was but, now all you get is a green shit rabbit, a power box and three one ups
Yeah, it's not really worth it in the DS version unless you want the rabbit and to fly away outside the castle. I find the Yoshi/Luigi methods are the quickest to master though.
