Yeah, I was watching a speedrun video and they actually used that glitch to skip the endless staircase. Rather like the Bob-Omb Battlefield cannon, you can control Mario in midair, so you just guide him up to where the top of the stairs are.

Ben Gardner actually, yes. Anything with the hardware capacity of the DS regaurdless of the game would indeed crash at that number of hats due to the the graphical overflow that Is caused by the rendering of 64 individual hats. This is because rendering hats is very resource intensive. If any DS game were stressed to the same extent, it would crash.

Good question.
It's actually another sprite on the other side of the mirror. It just takes your directional inputs and inverts them to give the illusion of a mirror. So yes, the mirror Yoshi's tongue is going through the mirror. Pretty nice idea though.

If you do the hat glitch on a 3ds, then it wont crash and eventually will just reset the hats.

The 3DS has a better CPU and more RAM than the regular DS and even the DSi. Its technically not a crash, it's a freeze because the game is till running, but the CPU can't process all those hats at once so it stops.
Do it on an emulator bam! you can do as much as your computer can handle.
Now get the best computer in the world and do it on an emulator

I know this video came out 2 years ago, but I have something to add about the out of bounds glitch outside Peach's Castle. You can keep swimming away from the level, and after a bit, the water looks like it disappears, even though you're still swimming. At this point, if you jump out of the "water", you won't splash back into it and you'll fall to your death. I kept swimming for a good few minutes, but I got to the where I wasn't sure if I was even going anywhere, so there may be an invisible wall.

I know, i have 1.1 too, it sucks. But I can actually PLAY the game, for the glitches, I use a emulator for the glitches. Space chicken 🚀🍗 doesn't. Know about this😤😭😤😭😤😭☹️😭 use an emulator, its very easy, look up an how to, I recommend using android or a pc😇😇😇😋😋😋😋😛😛😛😛😝😝😝🤗🤗🤗😎😎😎
I'm not sure if you already know, or if somebody's told you, but if you do that glitch in the top room of the castle, you can actually get into Bowser's fight and bypass the endless staircase with any character! It's super cool~

+BlazeItGaming You're in luck- a speedrun of this game was done at SGDQ just recently. Just look up "SGDQ 2016 Mario 64 DS" and you'll see that trick done very early in the run.

You can actually land in the room at the top of the endless stairs with the glitch where he slides into the stairs at the top of the castle. Speedrunners use this glitch to skip the endless stairs, since BLJs were fixed in this version of the game.
The bully glitch, Moat trap glitch, the "hot water" glitch, and the "win the lottery" glitch are my favorite glitches
With the 2nd falling out of bounds trick, you can actually land in the room that goes to the final boss of the game. This also means you can enter the level as someone who isn't Mario. This probably means that there are even more glitches possible with that.
i have another glitch that i found, it is where in snowmans land (as luigi) you throw the box at the slope at the beginning and pick it up, and if done correctly, you will hold the box inside of your head

The glitch where you slide kick into the wall is actually a way to skip the endless stairs if you move Mario where that room is supposed to be while he's airborne. It'll be unloaded, but you can still find your way around into the tunnel

The extension of the red carpet is what you see before the room transition to the character select room. It's the reason why your character doesn't walk into just a black void in the door opening animation.

+Qbe Root I mean, it's not that crazy of a coincidence really. 64 being a power of two and all. It could only be like 32, 64, 128, 256 etc. number of hats. That with the "64-bit" architecture of the N64 (with it having to be a power of two).

There's a lot that you didn't show, but I guess you're just trying to limit to easier ones? In Tall Tall Mountain there's one with Yoshi using a Wario cap to get the metal power-up, grab the monkey at the waterfall, and slide down at the last second of the power-up into the water at the start. You do lose the cap, but Yoshi still looks and acts like Wario. So when you use the owl to get back to the top and get the power flower, the game freezes.

Space Chicken When the game freezes, do:
L trigger + R trigger + left dpad + A, let go of all, then down dpad + B, let go of all, then start + select. I'm not sure if it works for other games but it works in SM64 DS.
+Mad Kiyos The debug screen is the ultimate immersion killer. Still, it's really cool to watch your DS get a bluescreen. :)
When the textures of a room de- load similar to that glitch you showed, it's because the castle is made up of one map separated into different chunks called "areas" usually every time you open a door, you transition into that area, and the textures of the other areas are not rendered.
It’s so cool to see this video again. I remembered back in 5th when I tried to pull all these off.

I only have this game on the virtual console for the Wii U and when I did the snow man glitch to its limit I seriously thought I broke my Wii U but I just did the smart idea by resetting the entire Wii U and now my game works

He probably confused it with N64 version which had 120.
He just means the levels and the one hundred coin stars not with the castle secret stars and the bowser levels

I found 3 pretty cool glitches in Bob-omb battlefield, and it happens at the same cannon. The first one is a bit difficult, but the other two are super easy.
1. As I tried to do the glitch you did with no avail, I tried to aim a little off. Suddenly, when I hit a certain spot, Mario jumped there 5 times. After a while, I found out how to do it every time. Because the anti-aliasing was not that good, the border of the cannon window is a bit jagged. On the right side of the cannon window, you will see two small parts of the window sticking out (You have to really eyeball it), trying to make the window look borderless. There are two lines, one on the top, one on the bottom. Line the tip of the bottom line with the corner of the brick block, while showing very little of the block. This should work every time.
2. While I tried to replicate the glitch I found, I found another one by accident. First, get the goomba on the other side of the brick block or the sign. Then get in the cannon. While in the cannon, look at the goomba. It should walk through the brick or the sign. I thought it only works like that, but the third glitch, does not play by those rules.
3. When I tried to avoid the goomba, I clung onto the edge of the brick block. The goomba still went after me, but something happened. After about one second of the goomba trying to chase me, it ran through the brick. I even saw it run through the sign. It can keep going on and on, and Mario can just take a nap on the brick block, while the goomba tries to get him and keeps going through both objects! It gets better. The goomba will stay like that, going through the block and the sign, even without being in the cannon or on top of the block, but it will still collide with Mario.
Also the quick race through down town skip can make you walk underwater (must be luigi to get into down town and go to the tube to load textures)
9:08 I do this all the time! I wish it could be done with Wario; if It could, you could potentially get all 150 stats in this game without ever draining the moat.

In the last snow level if you choose the grey stars quest, get some grey stars and enter in the igloo the grey stars you picked up will respawn, but you will still keep them and if you get more grey stars than you are suppose to get everything around you will freeze and you can do whatever you want
One of favorite glitch deaths as a teen was doing a kick into the hole the 1up comes out of in the Jolly Roger Bay painting room and the character just vanishes, then you end up outside the castle with a life lost.

7:58, the exact same thing happened to me one when sweep kicking into the corner. I jumped through a painting and found myself in Tiny-Huge Island.
You missed a very fun one in Shifting Sand Land that seems people have forgotten.
It’s been years since I’ve played so the steps might be off but I’m going to try this out for myself tomorrow when I get a minute. However, if you go into Shifting Sand Land, grab a hat that transforms you into another player, grab a box, and get the vulture to take your hat, then the game will just straight up freeze and you’ll have to restart. I used to love to do that glitch for shits and giggles.
Another one I found out by myself that I was only able to pull off once or twice was doing a slide jump into the corner of the invisible wall at the first Bowser Star Door. If done correctly Mario (or whatever player you were) would get caught in the corner but constantly go up and down. Sometimes it would only happen once and you would fly into the level, or not at all, or you would get caught to the point where you had to restart the game. I only got to the point where I had to restart the game once or twice as stated above.
As I said, my steps might be off as I haven’t touched the game since I was like 12-13 years old, but I’ll test em out and see if they’re correct myself!

Here are glitches I've experienced. In tall tall mountain you can move bob-ombs out of their spawn point. When you enter the level go back and take the wind lift to the bob-ombs what I did was toss them over the edge and quickly ran away from their spawn draw distance. If done correctly the bob-omb seems to not come back. If you take a look under the stage by using the wind you may see the bob-omb walking underneath his spawn point. Another trick was (I don't know how) using the wind and then falling but somehow passing the death zone to be able to walk on an invisible floor, and possible see some misplaced bob-ombs from earlier. One last glitch in tall tall mountain is perhaps the most random unexplained thing that happened to me. I got on the tiny mushroom where you normally teleport to the path for the cannon, however, as soon as I teleported... I was underwater!! I could swim upwards but eventually reached the top of the invisible water part of the way up the mountain. I swam for a bit around the mountain but eventually gravity came back. I wish I had a camera when this happened. Someone please find out why I suddenly began swimming!!
First one is like what happened in Banjo-Kazooie, where you went down to the basement in... well, Mad Monster Mansion or Rusty Bucket Bay, where you could find the mirror in back of the room and do the crouch attack - Kazooie's head would popping out of the mirror. It's just a graphic setup.

You missed a glitch:
In bombomb battlefield if you throw king bombomb off of the cliff and follow him down the hill, he will jump back up and the boss battle music will continue playing; however, if you go far enough away from the mountain, the music will return to normal.
This makes the level intense af
I'd like to note that in the patched (1.1) version, the snowman hat glitch will continue to work indefinitely without crashing. Eventually, the snow disappears, probably to help avoid a crash.

There were two versions of the game made. The second version fixed a few glitches the original had, but to my knowledge, it had no impact on the Underground Pool glitch.
Fun fact about SM64 [the original] familiar faces like Shigeru Miyamoto planned the game be a multiplayer game where Luigi would be playable but however due to hardware limitations Luigi was scrapped then there was gonna be SM64 2 [for the Nintendo Disc Drive] where the "multiplayer and playable Luigi" thing was gonna be added but because the Disc Drive failed the only SM64 game with Luigi was SM64 DS
6:53 if you are lucky, and you fall far enough, you can get to the endless stairs room, but it is also black. this can get you to the top of the stairs and allows you to go into bowser in the sky world. with this, you can get into this boss level using other characters and scraps needing 70 stars to be able to solve the mystery of the stairs, but this is very hard to do and will need perfect landing. i tried it myself and is very hard, but possible to get to. it could really help if you are playing the game and dont want to use mario, being the only one that can properly get to the level or if you cant/dont want to get 70 stars.
9:15 in the section outside under the garden and beach section, the waters level is based on the part of the section of the game and what you have done in it already. If the water in the moat outside has not been drained from the basement, the water supply underneath is a lot higher, but if you have already ground-pounded the pillers, draining the water, the water level is a lot lower, preventing you to be able to jump out of the water and into the cannon, since it would be to high. My guess to this is that the water is like an object, and is pulled down wen the pillers hit just above the floor, which would explain the change of the water and why the water is floating and the bottom is not touching anything.
another way to walk under water is with yoshi. go to the waterfall and jump to the other side. then, side up it and you might slide back down into the water. there is a slight chance that yoshi will egnore the hitbox of the water and fall right in as if the water was already drained. this is very helpful for speedruns.

There's no difference between playing on an old DS system er 3DS, as well as different save files. The problem lies in the different versions of the game. The version used in this video is 1.0 (US). Version 1.1 and the European (E) version fixed some of the glitches

Ham SamWich um, well I will explain it. At one point when Nintendo was releasing SM64 ds, the game was in version 1. Now they realized a few glitches in version 1, so then every game cartridge they sold was in version 2. So, many people still have V 1 from when the game as it was first released. And if you were to go to Walmart now and buy the game, it would be on V 2. Did that explain it?

I can't get these glitches to work. Well, the ones I've tried anyway. The cannon glitch and the infinite 1-up glitch using the overturned post don't work for me.
Is there any reason for this? Version differences? The fact that I'm playing on a 3DS, if that has anything to do with it? I doubt the software itself was ever updated, being an original DS title, so I wonder why these glitches don't seem to work for me.
***** It probably is the version, they would have updated it so that some glitches wouldn't work. A.K.A- they did a bug fix.
Sweet And Sour Yeah, I came to realize that I most likely have a later cartridge version that contains patches.
It was disappointing when I went to go do the wall clip glitch in the clock room (You can use it to get to "Bowser In The Sky" with 50 stars and any character) but it only ended up killing me when I did it.
***** for me the cannon glitch worked after 10 minutes of trying but the glitch in Whomp's Fortress for the infinite 1up didnt work
Hi, owning a 3DS does not fix any glitches. You most likely have V2 or the European version of the game. These 2 versions contain a lot of game crashing glitches.
+Oblivion Walker oops fucked up, these 2 versions do not contain any game breaking glitches.

6:28 you can do that glitch with anyone to land in the bowser room and play it with any character and it crashes the game during certain animations
5:43 You can also use this glitch ti get to the top of the endless stairs without 80 stars or Mario, do the glitch but guide yourself to the top of the stairs. You will know if it worked if the "Looping stairs" music is playing but you are on flat ground. Be careful, however, because now Bowser in the sky is unstable, and if something goes wrong you will respawn at the bridge at Peach's castle and some sound FX will be missing your game can freeze if this happens during the Bowser battle due to the glitchy nature of level, making it think you saved the Princess, but you didn't, so the game is stuck waiting for a cutsene that cannot happen. Bad assumption
With the the glitch you showed at 5:43 I was able to get Luigi into the final level that Mario is only allowed to get into. It take lucks though.
2:15 - that's so that when the door opens but the next room isn't loaded yet, you can see a low res version of the next room
5:52 I teleported to the final level without collecting all stars.

I ended up at the top of those stairs too once but for some reason I left the room instead of entering the level and I couldn't get it to happen again.

+Ultra Gamer Keep at it! It took me a ton, and I mean a ton, of tries. Also make sure that you're on the first version of the game. That makes all the difference as well.

i have found an other walking underwater glitch in the course with the sunken ship and the metal cap. a wario, get in the cave, get the metal cap and just run straight on the ship and fall at the edge. then, when the timer runs out, you will be running underwater
One more I found:
Go anywhere as Yoshi, eat an enemy and make it into an egg.
Then jump onto a goomba and throw the egg just before you land on it.
This makes Yoshi act like he's carrying an invisible box, and makes the whole game wig out. Stuff starts disappearing from the HUD and the environment, and after a while, it crashes.
