    Excellent summary, I was thinking of making something like this on Sunday but now glad I didn't bother :)
    Just a few things I might add:
    Hold down the boot button on the board while plugging in for DFU mode if Betaflight configurator doesn't do it.
    If you don't have 8 channels or don't want channel 8 as flight mode, set the FLTMODE_CH parameter as desired.
    Flashing the "with_bl" hex via Betaflight will reset all your parameters to defaults, using the .apj via MP will not.
    On my omnibus builds so far, I had to set BATT_MONITOR to 4 to enable voltage and current sensing.

    Great video by the way. Thank you for sharing. This is a great step forward for the ArduPilot community. One question, I noticed you are showing GPS info in mission planner but did not see where you had a GPS installed on the board. Do you have one installed? Are there any additional steps in setting one up? Do you even need one? Are you able to fly without one?

    • @ArxangelRC
      @ArxangelRC  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks mate! On the ArduPilot website there is a schematic where to connect everything, the GPS goes in the white port just next to the servo outputs. I do have one installed and at least with ArduPilot, it does not require any additional setup, other than plugging it in! The FC will do all the programming it needs to on its own! Generally, you need a GPS unit in order to have a working RTH mode, as well as Auto mode, which also includes waypoints, etc. You can still fly without a GPS module, but you will really only be able to use the stabilized modes, and no autonomous modes.

    What would be the difference in the configuration ?. Thanks in advance.

    • @ArxangelRC
      @ArxangelRC  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! This is only for a single screen, because I don't use multiple anyway... why add one more complication to an already complicated system! BUT... if you would like to set it up, just enable the additional screens and set a channel to change them with, then just configure like this one!

  • @AlexanderPerez-oe1gu
    @AlexanderPerez-oe1gu 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thanks again for posting this tutorial. I managed to get everything to work thanks to your help. One question is regarding peripherals. Have you managed to get anything like 3DR radio or even RFD 900 radios to connect? I would like to still use some of my old equipment for my pixhawk like here2 GPS and radio telemetry. I notice you do long range. How do you track your location on the ground station during the long range if Unable to connect Long range telemetry radio?

    • @ArxangelRC
      @ArxangelRC  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Glad it has helped you! Yes, I am running the Micro Telemetry units with these, and all works quite good! I use them only for setup though, never when I do actual long range flights! I do have an antenna tracker, and that points the video antenna to the plane at all times, and it outputs the coordinates to my tablet where it is overlaying them on the map! I also have my OSD data, which is recorded on the ground DVR! I fly myself... so I always know where the plane is!

      To be honest I am not certain about this one, as I've never had any interest in an airspeed sensor... so I never did looking how it can be done on this board, but I know the Matek Wing controllers can have an airspeed connected, as they even have a dedicated pin for it!

  • @kerrycorcoran4885
    @kerrycorcoran4885 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have installed Arduplane (fixed wing) on an Omnibus F4Pro Flight Controller, linked via FrSky X8R Rx to my Taranis X9D Plus. While sitting on the bench I am testing the various flight modes and they switch properly. My question is when I am in manual mode w/ 50% throttle and I switch to Cruise mode the motor stops - is this normal behavior on the bench? I am nervous to test it in the air as I am not sure what the response will be.
    Any help appreciated.

    • @ArxangelRC
      @ArxangelRC  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, I haven't tested that particular scenario, but my experience with these things is that while stationary and possibly with no GPS lock, the flight modes might act weirdly! This should be tested in the air and you can always switch out of it if it doesn't perform well! For me it might make sense that it would cut the motor, because the Cruise mode does not allow for direct motor control, you apply elevator to tell it to gain altitude, at which point the AP increases throttle on its own, if needed, to achieve that altitude gain! Just like with RTL on the ground, when you switch to it while stationary and possibly with no GPS lock, it will not spin the motor.

    • @ArxangelRC

      The analogue video transmitters we use most commonly only transmit video, not telemetry! The data on the screen comes from the OSD module, which is in the flight controller, which overlays the data on the video feed as it passes through it, before going to the Vtx.

      I didn't really do much... enabled the sensor, entered the battery capacity in the battery capacity field on top right part of the screen where you enable the batt monitoring. Should be doable like any other power module on pixhawk. I think you will also have to input the amps per voltz ratio... or something like that... I think I read somewhere a value of around 31 or 32 is to be used... not sure what it does, and I am still not done calibrating it, but at least it shows some value! :D

    A couple of things I'd like to add- I noticed your positive battery lead is connected to the wrong side of the galvanometer in your photos. I had it connected this way as well and my ammeter was inoperative. After connecting it to the other side it works great. Starting with a BATT_AMP_PERVLT parameter of 37 should get you close on the calibration of AKK boards.
    There is a convenient way to fine tune power module calibration: After completing a flight, multiply your BATT_AMP_PERVLT number (usually between 18 and 38) by your Mah put back into the battery, divided by Mah logged. This will give you your new BATT_AMP_PERVLT parameter, and I find it to be very accurate. Here is more info: www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?2279282-Calibrating-the-APM-Power-Current
    I had to remove a diode and a resistor on the AKK board to get everything functioning properly. The diode removal will isolate the servo bus from the rest of the board and is recommended: static.rcgroups.net/forums/attachments/5/9/3/2/6/3/a9974548-119-OMNIBUSF4Pro%20esc5v%20diode.jpg
    The resistor removal will allow PPM to function properly: static.rcgroups.net/forums/attachments/2/4/6/4/9/6/a10941401-126-68747470733a2f2f646973637573732e6172647570696c6f742e6f72672f75706c6f6164732f64656661756c742f6f72.png

    Which flies better, inav or ardupilot or are both programs basically the same?

    • @ArxangelRC
      @ArxangelRC  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      For the time being at least, ArduPilot for me is a lot more reliable than iNav. Flight characteristics are hard to compare... but I would still go with ArduPlane, as iNav does have some issues still in that department.

    • @horsship
      @horsship 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      ArxangelRC Thanks for the reply! I might just switch to ardupilot.

    • @wilcohijink
      @wilcohijink 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've tried both, on the exact same plane, (just change software) and found them to fly both very good.... Arduplane seems a bit 'softer' on the autotune, but that can be tuned as you like....
      I've only used iNav before, and that has been very reliable to me, including waypoints, RTH, etc.
      Personally, I found iNav easier, but I guess that depends on what you're familiar with. Some people say Arduplane is better, but when trying to set up arduplane for the first time, I got stuck in some settings, that where hidden deep inside the total parameter list in Arduplane...... But the same could be said for iNav CLI settings if you're new to iNav.
      But it's good to have both options I guess.... Try them both, and see what you like best....
      Guess I will play some more with Arduplane, and keep one plane on Arduplane, and another one on iNav...

    • @ArxangelRC
      @ArxangelRC  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Valid points Wilco... I do feel lost in the Betaflight/iNav CLI for sure... but I have been dealing with the ArduPilot code for years, so it is much more familiar! Both take some getting used to if its your first time, but from what I've seen with iNav... would prefer to stick to ArduPlane for the time being... BUT... competition does drive things forward, so I hope iNav up their game!

    • @ChristopherF_1971

    Very insightful video, however there is one MAJOR false information, that is the compass is not needed.
    Yes it's information can be partially replaced with a combination of data from the GPS and/or airspeed sensor, but it is VERY important in windy conditions, soaring and landing as the plane may be flying slightly sideways not knowing that it's heading is actually different.
    It's not even that hard to calibrate, although I would recommend getting an external compass (most GPS modules come with an integrated one so use that) to get away from all the magnetic interference from the power lines in your aircraft.
    That said it is a good starting point, try it without the compass and then add it in later, but DO THAT!

    • @ArxangelRC
      @ArxangelRC  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well... true... in some way... but then in most cases you could do without... and in the past at least... it has caused too much grief to remember... hence why I don't use it! Also... when landing you usually see the ground pretty close and are hardly looking at the OSD direction even if landing by FPV. :) BUT... everybody is free to decide for themselves! I am sharing my point of view on this! :)

    • @Lagggerengineering
      @Lagggerengineering 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ArxangelRC About the landing I meant automatic landing, manual doesn't really need the compass.
      But thank you for acknowledging this, I just wanted to point that out that if anyone ever had problems with the plane flying weirdly that this may be the problem.

    • @ArxangelRC
      @ArxangelRC  5 ปีที่แล้ว
