    Man, it's crazy to think this is a heartbeat from someone who lived in the 1700s.

    its insane that this guy might have known people born in the 1600's and we're here listening to his heart

      It's crazier that these 1600 people could have known people born in 1500 and we're here listening to the heart of a guy who knew them.

    If you increase the volume on your phone by a larger margin and place your fingers gently on the phone speaker, you can effectively feel Mr. Legar's pulse.

    Sphygmograph, there’s a word I didn’t expect to learn today. Awesome to ‘sound’ of a person from the 18th century. Amaaaaaazing!

    Oh wow so heartbeats being recorded isn’t new then it’s been around this the 1800 century it’s impressive of Mr.Legar was able to live so long but still had a good healthy heart and that wrist thing is basically like heart monitor or recording that we use today to record our heartbeat and listening to them

    The recording is actually very clear for a recording from the 1860s. wow! this is very fascinating! considering this person lived in the 1700s!

    I am not surprised that I am hearing a heartbeat as recorded by a primitive stethoscope.

    Interesting! Do you have anything more about the identity of Mr. Leger?

      Unfortunately little known about Leger, but we know he died the same year as the recording, suggesting he did not survive his ordeal.

      The recording was discovered and transferred to sound by Patrick Feaster in 2014.

    It kind of makes me wonder what his life was like; did he do everything he wanted? Did he have a loving family? What did he think of the instrument used to track his heart rate?
    Edit: This video was a bitch and a half to find on google.

    What is that faint background noise at 0:16? Is it part of the original recording? I have never noticed it until now.

    Is there any recording of the voice of a man born in the 1700s?

    • @JimPigMuseumOfSound
      @JimPigMuseumOfSound  2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Prussian Field Marshal Helmuth von Moltke, who was born in October 1800, is the only known person born in the 18th Century whose preserved voice is in playable condition. Unfortunately, there was an 1890 recording of a 100 year old man known to exist, in which the man recalls seeing President Washington in a parade as a young boy … that cylinder was placed in a safe at Edison’s lab just after being made and somehow was stolen and never recovered.

      @@JimPigMuseumOfSound Sorry for this but I have a lot of questions. Is there any chance of it being found? Do we know there name? And lastly, who was the oldest born person on tv. I’ve searched for this answer but I can’t seem to find one. The only answer I’ve found is someone named Seymour who witnessed Lincoln’s death, though I’m sure someone born in the 1850s, if not the 40s went on tv.

    • @JimPigMuseumOfSound

      @@FadedForeverForgotten As far as I know, Samuel J Seymour, born in March 1860, was likely the earliest born person to be on TV when he appeared on ‘I’ve Got a Secret’ in 1956. But TV history prior to 1947 is poorly documented, so an earlier born person on a lost program is possible. As far as the lost cylinder, I’ve read about the story, but do not recall the speaker’s name being preserved… perhaps due to the theft happening so many years ago and the practice at the time of putting the cylinder info papers inside the cylinder itself, the full details were lost.

    • @FadedForeverForgotten
      @FadedForeverForgotten 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@JimPigMuseumOfSound Thats a shame. History has truly been lost because of one misplace or thief. Your probably right about Seymour, even though TV started becoming popular in around 1949. I just wonder if in around 1950 some 100 year old went on TV. I also have a question about your opinion on something. Who do you believe was the oldest born person to ever be filmed. I’ve heard rumors of someone being filmed born in 1791 but I highly doubt their authenticity.

    • @JimPigMuseumOfSound
      @JimPigMuseumOfSound  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@FadedForeverForgotten I’ve seen that film, and it could be true … but it’s not verified. Pope Leo XIII, born in 1810, the first Pope to be both filmed and sound recorded, is probably the best contender. Incidentally, the only verified Supercentenarian to live from the 1700s to the 1900s was Margaret Ann Neve, who lived from 1792 to 1903.
