I would genuinely be so happy if there were 10 more parts of this series. I was rewatching old couch show videos and Gabe was wearing a shirt that said “vulva pride” soooo. A lot to unpack there
I love the lobster shirt and it being buttoned all the way up is a classic lesbian look! I do think the red of the glasses + the orangey-red of the lobsters isn't helping
Okay I remember watching those videos back then, and being in awe of how cool you were. You dressed in many styles with confidence and didn’t give a care what anyone thought. I loved them back then….
As you were gearing up to it, I said to myself (misremembering), "He'd better not be talking about the crab shirt." And then you fucking were! Gabriel, how DARE you. And the bathing suit look slayed >:(
Honestly I think a hair journey would be so cool to go through and how your hair has played a role in your gender expression (if at all) I’d love that! Also the lobster shirt and the red glasses is a sLAY and I will not have this slander
Thank you for taking us on this journey! As a trans person, I absolutely admire that you can do this and don't feel dysphoric or like having to dismiss the style or make up. If you critisize a look it's because the garment is weird - and not because you were wearing it. It's just so appreciative of yourself - and hella confident!
Maybe not buttoned all the way up, but the lobster shirt is unironically great! Gabe's shirt that i remember wanting was a burgundy velour crop top from o-mighty (?) that said be "be a sl*t, do whatever you want!" Iconic
@@JustBetweenUs I couldn't find it and was thinking I just hallucinated it, but it turns out the shirt was baby pink (the shop itself just had a deep red option I must've preferred and seared into my memory instead) - it's in "How Do You Stop Apologizing?" from 2017!
I felt the same watching the lovely comp you did for Ruth - I watched all the sketches as they came out back in the day and they WERE and ARE really funny!
I gotta tell you, as someone who is your age and remembers seeing these videos, I never thought your style was BAD. I thought you were fashionable. Patterned shirts buttoned to the top were definitely a thing.
Can we take a minute to appreciate the confidence you have to have to roast your old looks! Also, if I hadn’t seen your transition, I wouldn’t think you were the same person. So male now! Love it! ❤
I laughed simultaneously as you while the lobster shirt was on the screen 🦞😂 the emoji dress is probably made out of polyester, that's why it was warm, it's pure plastic.
I always loved seeing your different outfits and hairstyles! It felt refreshing to see someone expressing themselves in unique ways and trying new things. Even if they weren't all slays, I identify with the process of finding new outfits and trying out new styles/combos and you were /are inspiring to me!
Noooo!!! Your style back then was one of the most iconic and - believe it or not - cohesive "it makes sense" "what a cool person" wardrobes ever. I remember waiting excitedly to see what you came up with. To me it's also such a pillar of the 2010s: in 5 years kids will be studying this backlog, if they aren't already. Now, the bathing suit ATE! The hair and makeup matching the bathing suit colors - iconic! I vividly remember seeing that and obsessively trying to find something similar. However, capitalism hasn't yet reached its full swing in Ukraine back then, so all I managed to find was one lady who was bringing alt looking clothes from America and selling them for lots of money, so I got a tank top with a ribcage. Aahh, what a time to be a teenager! Next, the lobster shirt. I will say this: if lobster patterns were good enough for good ol Salvador Dali and his friend Elsa Sciaparelli, they're good enough for that look! I would wear that shirt right now in a heartbeat, and the maximalist ladies would clap! It's really interesting to see your style change quite a bit after transition. You've mentioned it in other videos briefly, if that's something you would be open to discuss, I'd love to see a video about that!
@@JustBetweenUs Alex Russo from Wizards of Waverly Place always kept her wand tucked inside her boot. A lot of Gabe’s old looks have similar energy to hers (meaning very very bi).
Noooo, I love the bathing suit 😢 I literally have it with opposite colours. There was a time when bathing suits were worn as shirts, I first saw them styled like that in early Anna Akana videos
Defending the lobster shirt. It does look kitch, especially with the red glasses. But because of the matching element, it looks thought out and cohesive. which I love. Yes, it is quirky, but looks good, and fun. Also, a swedish take. In sweden in august it is lobster season, so we always have lots of lobster eating parties. We always decorate with a lot of lobster prints for this. So, your shirt to me is a kitch thing that screams that you love lobster season, same feeling as a Christmas shirt
Loved the vid Gabe. I got to watching some of the older JBU videos today - I came back to this video to try and convince you and Allison to react to them together.
i remember being elated at the emoji dress because Trixie had the same dress in white 😂 and i was like omg!!! (also coordinating the red glasses with the lobster is actually genius. i don’t hate it!)
I love hearing your thought process about what you wore back then now. I will say, I distinctly remember the skeleton swim suit as a shirt and I was like “oh must be wearing some type of rad one piece thingies that some chick wear, so cool!” I also loved your hair journey back in the day. Was always a huge fan and was always wondering what we were gonna see next
the thing about the lobster shirt is it gives the same vibes as galaxy print leggings, like its quirky and it made sense at the time. it has an era it belongs to and that video will now be its time capsule
I think the fashion phases show the undiagnosed autism being masked and the exploration of your gender expression. Now that you’re comfortable in your own skin and your diagnoses, your sense of style has settled in a different direction
Before I discovered how to express myself in a way that brought me gender euphoria i feel like I just wore whatever, because barely any of it brought me joy anyway. Looking back on old stuff is interesting.
loved this gabe!! also i totally agree that yall's sketches are truly amazing and they do hold up. i still watch them and love them! the emoji dress is a bold choice but i think it looked great on you!! please do part 2!
i almost feel like the lobster shirt is you trolling the audience. and it's not NOT working. the shirt is AWESOME, and also so OBVIOUSLY AWESOME! come on!
Loved this! I've always loved the sketches, and I do agree they're very funny! I rewatch them every year or so. I know you both are VERY past that kind of content, but I'd love to see another sketch after all these years! Also more of this kind of video, definitely!
I'm sorry but these were all a slay. Maybe some questionable combination choices? But it was the mid 2010s, I'm pretty sure we all styled Black Milk style swimsuits as if they were tops back then!
So my heart never really left 2010 and I was feeling like borderline called out by thinking any of this was cringe untillll you said “and I was wearing a bathing suit as a top” LMAO Also I have only been with you guys for about a year and I didn’t know about your previous skits until then, and I agree, they are so funny! And held up so well and I love going back to watch them. Two icons ❤❤ Anyway if anybody in the comments section wants to hang out, let me know. I’m not busy I’m just over here playing Candy Crush
How could you critique lobster shirt!? This is excellent. Marine Bio core. And the coordinated glasses is classic. Honeslty that one inspired my animal shirts and frogs collectiom back at the tine, leading to me finding and buying a foxes playing golf print shirt for graduation lol
Definitely appreciated your fits - I felt like it was a great exploration of possibilities. Very queer. Or at least, you helped define in my brain that queer fashion can be all the things. Great video - love that you remember most of the pieces and enjoy talking about your thought process behind them.
Oh my God Gabe the bathing suit fit was iconic stahpp it. that was like one of my favorites! I do that still I have a particular pink bathing suit that is one of my favorite tops lol. the purple washed out hair gave the silver look and totally brought it all together.
I think the lobster shirt is cute :) IMO it didn't quite work with the pale hair and red glasses (too much of the same color palette) but the shirt itself is not a loss!
Also u influenced my fashion so much back then I can’t not defend the looks I’m like “nah u inspired ME to get a lobster shirt never apologize for a contextual slay.”
It was all iconic imho - Allison
Literally tho! Lobster shirt was pretty memorable and indicative of the times
Justice for bathing suit look
It’s giving Gillian Jacobs in ‘Love’ (Judd Apatow)
I came to the comment section jus to say this!!! Yes!!
I love this look😂😂
so glad you said it, i thought it was a look
Came here to say THIS
lobster shirt, red glasses, blonde pixie is iconic i think you should do it again boy mode
This was my favourite look! I do dress unhinged frequently😊
Honourable mention for the comic book dress! It wasn’t in this video, but I remember being so jealous of it. Still think it’s a cool dress.
UGH me too I think that was like the quintessential dress
My left ear did enjoy this, thank you 🥰
Glad my earphones aren't broken haha. Really bad audio is a throwback too, right?
I just spent 5 minutes trying to troubleshoot my headphones to work, then realized that it was just the video :D
Thank you for this comment I thought my right headphone had a dead battery 😂
I would genuinely be so happy if there were 10 more parts of this series. I was rewatching old couch show videos and Gabe was wearing a shirt that said “vulva pride” soooo. A lot to unpack there
Omg what sketch was that
@@JustBetweenUs It wasn’t a sketch, it was a couch show video! “When Are You Too Funky?” Lmao
Not me instantly knowing every sketch that every outfit is from after ten years of watching y’all as my comfort millennials
Honestly the skeleton bathing suit and the bleached hair is giving Phoebe Bridgers haha
Ok the emoji dress is wild, but I kinda like the bathing suit and lobster shirt 😅
Gabe, I got red glasses in 2017 and wore a ton of graphic tees because of you! Style icon tbh. Your influence knows no bounds
As you were gearing up to it, I said to myself (misremembering), "He'd better not be talking about the crab shirt." And then you fucking were! Gabriel, how DARE you. And the bathing suit look slayed >:(
I loved red glasses lobster shirt combo !? I think its so cool 😢
Yes same!!!
No, the orange and red *does* not go together. Plus, the shirt looks a size bigger.
@@HarshitWise well, I like it
Totally! Also yay pigeons. Pigeon shirt with grey and holographic accessories?
It was iconic as is though a heavy chain on top of the shirt and a chunky bracelet and/or rings would have really elevated it into a look!
Honestly I think a hair journey would be so cool to go through and how your hair has played a role in your gender expression (if at all) I’d love that! Also the lobster shirt and the red glasses is a sLAY and I will not have this slander
YES

Cannot explain how truly influential the red glasses were for me, I still am tempted to buy red frames every time i get new glasses tbh
I always loved the shirt "Bi and still not into you"!!! You truly are my bicon ❤
This made me so nostalgic for this era of fashion. These are all iconic fits
You were my style icon at 15! Take it or leave it, but it’s the absolute truth!
Maybe not buttoned all the way up, but the lobster shirt is unironically great! Gabe's shirt that i remember wanting was a burgundy velour crop top from o-mighty (?) that said be "be a sl*t, do whatever you want!" Iconic

I genuinely love your old fashion but I can see how looking back these outfits feel like a performance rather than a real person.
Emoji dress is worse than the lobster shirt. And I remember you so well for your queer grafic tshirts, I always wanted one like that.
Why did the emojis needed to be that big?
I felt the same watching the lovely comp you did for Ruth - I watched all the sketches as they came out back in the day and they WERE and ARE really funny!
The lobster shirt is a slay honestly 🦞
The emoji dress was iconic early 2000's fashion. I love it! I also loved when Alison boop one the of emojis on your dress. I love it.
6:09 in your defense, the BLACK MILK bones swimsuit as a body suit WAS A LOOK! Around that time so you were probably just super on trend.

I was just rewatching old JBU videos and saying to myself “Gabe should react to these fits.” Does manifesting work???
It does!!
To balance out the above comment: No!
"I think I was running out of clothes.... Or, it is very possible that I thought it looked good." This is my style, perfectly defined. 😂

bathing suit look is very phoebe bridgers
Okay but the lobster shirt and bathing suit were some of my favourite looks
0:54 I’d never thought about it before but some of your old looks did have a sort of wand in the boot energy
What’s that
@@JustBetweenUs Alex Russo from Wizards of Waverly Place always kept her wand tucked inside her boot. A lot of Gabe’s old looks have similar energy to hers (meaning very very bi).
Sooooo many of these were so on trend at the time!! 2012-2016 was a WILD time for clothing. Emoji clothing was so popular!
Noooo, I love the bathing suit 😢

Oh yeah, I distinctly remember one of her thumbnail with skeleton bathing suit. Iconic!
Honestly I’m kind of loving the Red Lobster look
I realllly wish Melisa was here for this review
I could not handle the heat
2010s fashion was a whole ass mess but you were an icon
I had that Star Wars shirt as a teenager! I remember seeing you wear it in a Buzzfeed video, I was so excited!
In 10 years, we need a video of Daddy Gabe reflecting on Baby Gabe's post-transition fashion!

yes i need a part two and three please, this was fun!
I gotta say the lobster shirt look is by far a bigger Easter egg for transmasculinism than the gender is a drag shirt
Such a snazzy dresser

This is just iconic 2010s fashion
NOT the emoji dress 💀
not sure if this is a TH-cam issue but the audio is only coming out the left side for me...
Bro… No way you think the Emoji dress is as bad as the lobster shirt. The lobster shirt could be a vibe.
Looking forward to part 2 for sure 👌🏾
I don't want to complain on a great video, but it would be even greater if your mic was in both of my ears and not just the left one

Those sketches were fire. No notes.
Funnily enough I really like the two you hated the most (skeleton swimming costume and lobster shirt). Guess it shows how subjective taste is!
The emoji dress was good too. But why did you wear something of such a shitty material?

It can be hard to pull off "Fun Shirt Lesbian" as a Bi-Sexual.
I would love a hair part 2!
Please do part two just on hair and part 3 just on graphic tees!

Pls we all need the hair video
bright pants were the THING back then!!! no need to defend urself we were all victim to the 2010s and this was a hot look back then
I was on trend a lot lol
I thought that both the lobster shirt and the emoji dress were the best looks. But I'm an ace cis dude so I basically have zero fashion sense.

I loved seeing what the hell you were gonna wear in videos back then, it was always fun
I have got to say I always loved your style! I love the styles then and I love the styles now. You are always cool, whether you believe that or not.
THE BATHING SUIT IS A LOOK
They (i.e. JBU hosts) always seemed so confident and proud of their fashion. That’s the most important part of fashion. Long live Bea Arthur!
