- Hi guys! Thank you for watching this BEGINNERS Spray Paint Art Tutorial - Episode 06 (Mountains). In this sixth video in the series, I'm going to be showing you how to make some simple/basic mountains using black and white spray paint, magazine paper, and a carrier/grocery bag. I'll also be adding a moon and a star above the mountains.
In this video, I'll show you how to make the texture on the mountain in the distance using a carrier/grocery bag, and for the mountains in the foreground, I'll be making them using magazine paper. You will also learn how to add mountains on top of each other and use a misting technique to give your painting some depth.
Below is the list of materials I have used,
- Something to spray paint on like Gloss card or a Canvas or whatever you are going to use to paint on.
- Black and White spray paint
- A Lid to use as a stencil to make your Moon
- Something to make the texture on your mountains, Magazine paper, carrier/grocery bag.
- Something to sign your work with
- A mask
- Some gloves
- A straight edge which could be a paint scrapper, piece of wood, or card
- A piece of card with a hole in the middle

I have gotten out of tune making my mountains. I can’t figure out what I am doing different but they are looking really bad these days. I had to come back and watch this

I need to practice doing the mountains. I like your method of doing it. But I mess it up every time. I am just a beginner in this kind of art so I have lots of things to learn
Hi Sputnik, Thank you so much for watching and for taking the time to leave this comment, I really appreciate it :) when i started doing Mountains i found it hard to do, it took me a few goes to get any where looking like mountains, but with some practice you'll get there, Just give it time :) :)
@@JonBarberArt does it help if you leave the paint to dry for 2 or 3min beforedoing the texture? i was close to what i wanted but then tried to peel of more paint and it was not that good anymore :)

Thank You Jon.. I did my first painting today.. It looks pretty good, but I need much more practice. I am working on not spraying down so much paint, as well as blending colors.. I am having some problems with creating a city skyline.. Is there any recommendations you can offer me.. Thank You for all your help.. Ben..
Hi Ben, Cool did you enjoy painting with spray paint, yes practice is the key, There will a video coming soon in this series on doing a city skyline, in fact it'll be episode 8 , I've been poorly so i'm bit behind in uploading videos and making them, but episode 7 should be up and ready for monday hope this helps :)

Awesome job. I have been having so much trouble with my paintings. I seem to always spray too much and my paintings glob up horribly. Going to give this a try tomorrow

Thats good to hear, Yes black is most probably the colour that is used most, I always get black when i buy paint :)
I could use some tips on waterfalls landscaping trees and if possible waves. You may have some videos already these techniques. Thanks for the very helpful videos you’ve gave me so much inspiration already I’m a beginner btw

Great tutorial again man,learning loads.Can you tell me if there's a difference between the Montana white and black range?
Hi Scotty, Thank you so much for watching, and for taking the time to leave these kind words and this comment, feedback, and the question I really appreciate it :) I haven't really done much with Montana Black apart from in one video i made for my channel, I use Montana White in the beginners tutorial series, which has a high pressure valve system, Gloss finish to it, and is the cheapest paint in the Montana range, it's also slightly thinner then the other two paints in the range. I use Montana Gold in my other painting which has a low pressure valve system and a semi-gloss finish, it is also a acrylic base paint, I have done a review tutorial for each of these on my channel, one for the White, one for black, and one for the gold, which will show you how each of them work and also give you more information about each of the paints, Maybe check them out as they will be able to explain things better then what i can put into words :) Hope this helps :)

I got the planets and stuff done I can blend skies in for sunsets and sunrise...I gotta practice mountain and how much paint ... either I use too much or it dries on me

Hi Joy, Thank you so much for watching, and for taking the time to leave this comment and feedback, I really appreciate it :) I have had a look about subtitles in different languages and you can change the subtitles to french in the setting while watching the video, to do this go to settings, then click subtitles/cc , and then auto-translate and then choose the language you want the subtitles in. Hi Paul, Thank you so much for taking the time to leave this comment, feedback and question i really appreciate it :) Yes Paul you could use a old cd disc to do the middle of star, i have done it with them in the past , but i find the card with the hole in the middle better as you can make different size ones :) hope this helps :)
love your work what kind of paint do you use or does it matter and is that drawing paper paint on
Hi Kenny, Thank you very much for taking the time to leave this comment, feedback and question I really appreciate it :) I'm using gloss paint in this , I also use semi-gloss paint too, To be honest it doesn't matter what type of paint you use as each one is slightly different from one and other, it all depends on which one you find and like the best and you are happy using, and the paper i use is glossy card which is around 280gsm hope this helps :) It's also nice to hear you love my work :)

Nice vids pal... I intend to do some of those paintings too... What kind of spray caps do you use? Skinnies only? Or fat caps too?
Hi Rios, Thank you very much for taking the time to leave this comment, feedback and question i really appreciate it :) I'm using the stock cap that comes with the Montana white cans which is a level 3 medium cap , it's somewhere in between a skinny and fat cap , I like using it and think it works well with the cans hope this helps :)
Thx for your quick answer dude I've ordered some Montana Gold cans and I guess they come with the same caps. I've watched a vid where you where flaming the canvas to get a lava like texture that one really got me hyped. Could you give some advice on that? Or do you have a tutorial for that technique? No problem RiOS, happy to help, The Montana gold cans comes with a different cap they come with a gold stock cap. Are you on about the triple galaxy painting i have done?

Hi Jon ! It’s my first test but have a problem…. The black and white doesn’t really work with the bag … they turn on grey disgusting
Hi MrTotolerbot, Sorry for the late response, Thank you so much for watching and for taking the time to leave this comment, and the question I really appreciate it :) If the black and white is turning a grey colour then there are two reasons for that, one, you are putting to much black and white paint down before you do the texture with the bag, if you put to much paint down they will start to mix with each other so when you do the texture it'll turn grey has the paint has mixed, try using less paint before you do the texture, Two, you are placing the bag on the the paint to many times to make the texture, the more times you put the bag on to do the texture the more you will mix the paint, for the best results you want to do it once maybe twice at a push but no more because the colours will start to mix up then and turn grey, hope this makes sense and you find it helpful :)

Hi Rob, Unfortunately at this moment in time i don't have any time to do custom work as i'm in the process of sorting things out so i am able to put some of my artwork up to sell and also with other things going on i just don't have time :( But hopefully in the future i should have more free time to be able to do some custom paintings. Sorry i'm not able to help you at this moment in time.
