Yeah I thought you were watching the original. The Evil Dead, The Evil Dead 2, Army of Darkness and the show Ash vs the Evil Dead. There was a reboot called Evil Dead Rise, but while most people liked it, I didn't. There was also a post credit scene for this movie, but it doesn't add much.

Imagine Jane Levy asking what her part was and the response was "all of them."

She plays every vital role in a single horror film. A true powerhouse actress.

If a real person was in one of those scenarios that horror movie characters find themselves in they wouldn't know the kind of imminent danger that was lurking.

The first three are brilliant! 1 was shot for pennies, but made tons and made Sam Raimi a directing star! He got into a big argument with the studio, they couldn't agree, so Sam did 2, on his own name and production, plus shot it more funny! Plus Bruce did a few TV shows, a western sheriff, a spy for Washington, and he was in the beginning of Congo! His net series was also amazing! Too bad they ended it short! Bruce, and this series is pretty much responsible for the whole comicon/horrorcon/cosplay industry! A couple friends of mine actually met Bruce!😮😮!

As a long time Evil Dead fan this is an incredible remake with regards to horror and gore and takes the tone of the original. Starting with Evil Dead II (the pride of the franchise) the tone shifts and comedy starts to be introduced. The third film Army of Darkness is pure comedy. The series Ash vs Evil Dead is just the best thing ever and it gives us Kelly and Pablo who are the best sidekicks ever.
Watch the entire franchise, it's so good and you'll be happy you did. It's part The Exorcist, part Texas Chainsaw Massacre, part The Three Stooges and rest is all Bruce Campbell playing Ash Williams, Hail to the King baby.

The original film is like a collage movie, Sam and Bruce made it when they just finished that part of their life and it got their foot in the door. Evil Dead 2, is a remake of 1 so you kinda don't need to see the first. Then Army of Darkness is hecking gold, finished up with Ash vs Evil Dead, a TV series set in canon, decades later. It too, is gold, and hilariously gross.

The gore is top-tier and done entirely practically (except the fire scene) and I think it keeps the spirit of the original while showing what the original could have been like if they'd had the budget to work with back then. Raimi and Bruce Campbell were heavily involved, and they seemed to make sure Fede was going to do their original work justice.

As far as remakes / reboots go, I found this a worthy one. I still prefer the original. It has a special magic that only a dedicated group of desperate filmmakers can produce. But as pure terror horror films go, this took the original premise, and went all the way with it. I don't want to spoil any of the other films, so I'll just say that next year you definitely have to watch the original "The Evil Dead" (1981) and then "Evil Dead 2" (1987), and then "Army of Darkness" (1992). "Army..." was actually my introduction to the franchise; I watched it in college, about 1997/98. Then I backtracked to ED1 and ED2, and loved all of them.
In my opinion, the most recent film, 2022's "Evil Dead Rise" missed the mark. I saw what they were going for, but they really messed with the whole premise; it was neither a sequel nor a remake. It was scary quite often, but their attempts to create suspense just slowed down the action, for me.
The TV show, "Ash vs The Evil Dead" was amazing. It truly carried on the spirit of the original trilogy, and made its own magic as well. Once you watch the original three, I know that horror is not your thing, but there is enough humor sprinkled throughout that I think you'll probably have a good time- then watch the series; it's well worth your time. At least, I found it well worth my time. Everyone has their own thing; if you don't find it to be up your alley, that's okay, too.
This was a great reaction. Jump scares, you managed to find some jokes and humor to keep the mood light. I hope you enjoyed it, even if horror isn't your favorite. Happy Halloween! Here's to more non-horror films through the coming year...

I never understood why people watch horror movies and constantly complain about the characters being dumb. A Horror movie with no dumb characters is like a car with no engine. Without it, you're not gonna get anywhere. Or when people complain about the characters doing something that they have no reason to ASSUME is dumb. We as the audience are aware that this is a Horror movie which means we're automatically paranoid of everything. The characters in the movie don't know they're in a movie. So they have no reason to be scared and paranoid of everything.

The demon wasn't relinquishing control in order to manipulate the other characters with Mia's genuine pleas. It was the demon the entire time. It had complete control, literally possessing the host, having access to their thoughts and memories, and simply impersonating the host.

23:28. "The demon in the basement is just having such a great time" along with the close up of her, was such a good line. I literally fell outta my chair laughing so hard. Your facial expressions and comments are truly hilarious at times, yet, I have never seen anyone look so gorgeous while being so frightened at the same time. To me, that was by far your best and funniest reaction that I have seen, and I had such a great time, Kudos to you mi amour beautiful Mary.

There's a sequel. It's just as cool. The cool thing about the Evil Dead series is that they don't care. Anyone can die in them and it was like turning up the dial on the idea of the exorcist, like, what if it would take anyone it could to corrupt, but through corruption attack maim and kill others and spread like a plague with a shared conscious is wild. Sami Raimi the goat for helping make these happen. If you watch the original Spiderman films you can see his camera style on that film.
Another great flick of his is "Drag Me To Hell"

so the necronomicon is like the one ring from lotr: it has a will of its own and WANTS to be read.
there's was a cut scene, at the beginning of the movie. everyone in that first group dies, by either being killed or committing self unaliving. this was so the book would remain secret and wouldn't be able to escape the shack, via someone taking it away.
also, the time between beginning scene and when mia's group show up, is well over a decade [if not several]. so when mia and the gang show up, the book did everything it could to ensnare someone to read it. it's why the guy didn't react when he was pulling the barbed wire off the cover but did when he got a small cut- the book had him in a trance.

Ash Vs. The Evil Dead is one of the 5 funnies series I've ever watched on Netflix or Prime. Chef's kiss. Bruce Campbell at his best as the arrogant, bumbling Ash Williams. It's the next installment after Evil Dead 1 & 2 and The Army of Darkness, the second 2 of which are also very funny.

I never thought you would ever watch this movie. This movie was definitely intense. Although, I was surprised you didn't watch the original. But this one's good too. And since you didn't show it in this video, I doubt you knew this, but there are more stuff that go on in the credits that are callbacks to the original films. First off, it plays a tape recording of the man who found the Book of the Dead. The exact same voice recording. And then for a post credit scene, we get a short cameo of Bruce Campbell who played Ash Williams in the original films. He says his catchphrase "Groovy" before the movie cuts to black. Since you were impressed by this anyway, I'm sure you would like the other films. Especially "Evil Dead Rise" that came out earlier this year.

  • @Theomite

Even though it's completely devoid of humor, this remake does amazing justice to the original series by just dialing the blood, gore, and violence up to 11. We never thought anyone would be able to just go balls-out whackaloon over-the-top like this in this century but they did it. The original series is worth watching because they get progressively funnier with each sequel; the 3rd one is more comedy than horror. Raimi directed all of the original EVIL DEAD series.

It's funny...I saw a book on witchcraft and demonology in a used bookstore once. It wasn't like a scholarly book; it was more like a how-to book. It didn't have many pictures in it. It mostly had instructions on how many demons you needed to call up to do the thing you wanted to do. It didn't look anything the books you see in movies. I wish I had had more time to look at it but my friend discovered what I was reading, ripped the book out of my hand and dragged me out of the store. Anyway, consider watching "Rat Race'. It's funny and will be more comforting than Evil Dead movies. 👹
