Easy way to create “Side Edge/Over the Edge” cards in Cricut Design Space

  • UPDATE: I now have a free PDF tutorial for this style of card. You can find the link in my Facebook group: “Cricut Explore, Maker and More.”
    How to use the Offset feature in Cricut Design Space to create Side Edge cards. (Also known as Over the Edge cards.)
    The Offset feature is currently only available on the Desktop version of Design Space v6.8 and higher and only for those using Windows 10 (64-bit only) and higher, and macOS 10.15 and higher.
    If you meet the Windows 10 requirements and can't get Offset to work please try downloading and installing this:
    aka.ms/vs/16/release/vc_redis...
    It doesn't work for everyone, but has for many.
    In my haste to get the video finished I incorrectly said to create two squares for the inside of the double side edge card. You in fact need to create two shaped pieces for that card style. You could start with your original image at 4.25" and create three offsets of .125" instead of the two as shown in the video. You'll then have a 4.5", a 4.75" and a 5.0" offset. After slicing and welding it to the square of the same size you can duplicate the two smaller layers to use inside the card.
    Here is the link to Tamara's blog post where you'll find her card and video. www.cricutambassador.nl/tutor...
    Here’s the link to my Facebook group: / cricutexploreandmore
    Would love to see you post your side edge cards there. 😀

    Hi Narelle, & thanks for this tutorial! I just have one question. When you make the double side edge card, & you make 2 squares to put inside of it, wouldn’t you have to make them thinner, in order to not stick out beyond the edge of the card? When I’ve done this, I just put a square over the one side of the card, unlock it, & size it by eye, so it won’t stick out. If you have another way to do it, I’d love to know! Thanks again. 🙂

    • @thenoncraftycrafter
      @thenoncraftycrafter  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I did forget that bit in the video in my rush to get it recorded. You do indeed need to make the inside pieces shaped the same as the card base. You can use the original shaped piece and use the offset button but make them insets by using -0.125. 😊

  • @lauradavidson5375
    @lauradavidson5375 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Thank you for the wonderful tutorial... I am following along now and I have my two offsets done. When I press on the offsets the contour button does not go bold so I can't do that.. I am not understanding why

    • @thenoncraftycrafter
      @thenoncraftycrafter  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Contour option will only be available if there is more than one contour. If it’s just a solid shape you can skip that step. If you need more troubleshooting help feel free to tag me in a post at facebook.com/groups/cricutexploreandmore with a screenshot of your project. 🙂

    Using the offset behind the image at the end of each project, is that just a design choice or does it serve a function? In other words, can you just place the flowers or ice cream directly on the card or do you need that offset shadow piece? Thx.
