    Love this series man, so glad I found them. I'm getting ready to start on a '76 that's been sitting in my uncle's box trailer for a couple decades!
    Regarding shooting epoxy primer, I like that gun and paint hopper. Do you recommend having a moisture mitigation in the airline for EP? Not planning to do show room finish paint, but don't want to insert moisture in my EP either. What's your setup?

    I would just consequently have burnt holes straight trough those cavitated old panels with my setup. What gas, wire type and gauge do you use ?

      75/25 gas, 0.023 solid core wire. The metal is between 16ga for the rails and floor replacement and 18-20 gauge on the body panel work

      @@hcr-motorworks I just recieved my full 0,6mm setup Fronius order and picked up a pair of bobbins of solid steels on my way. 350 $ shorter and a machine re-adjustment later, I picked up a hopeless, decommisioned landmower shell from my scrap pile with more thick rain wet rust and holes than metal in it. I could actually make useable welds to it without burning holes! Straight on, no prep, no shitz given, just to see. Conclusion; Rust is no longer a crucial incendiary obstacle ! :D
      What really was interesting was how much juice and feed I could squeeze into that thin little wire before unfortunate things started to occur to my various chosen work pieces yet still making pretty usable welds. That ought to tribute ammensly to welding speed, reducing heat exposure time at MIG-works in general. My welding thin, rusty old crap skills just exelled 3-4 levels, just like that :D Thanks to you :)

    • @hcr-motorworks
      @hcr-motorworks  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mauristrofimov3709 Best advice I can give is to try and get to clean metal with a wire wheel or sanding disc and start trying to weld from there. When I try to fill a hole I quickly hit the trigger on the mig, just long enough to deposit a little molten ball on the metal, I work my way around the circumference of the hole until I've got dozens of little balls that are barely sticking to the metal being repaired and then once there's enough there to nearly fill the hole I make a longer trigger pull on the mig just long enough to melt everything together. No idea if its the right way to do it, but it's worked for me for years so I kept the technique. the quicker your on and off the trigger the better. Heat it up too much during the process and you'll blow through the hole and have to start over again usually with a bigger hole than you started with haha

    QQ I noticed your using a MIG wire, any thoughts on TIG vs MIG?

    • @hcr-motorworks
      @hcr-motorworks  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I actually have a few mig and tig machines now and when the process requires it I use TIG for all my stainless and aluminum work. Most of the time, many guys don't start out with a tig machine though or possess the skills necessary to use one so any chance I get to weld some plain ole sheet metal I break out the MIG. It does take some more care to not warp thin parts but for the average joe its something they can understand and its usually in most garages arsenals of available tools, or at a minimum its on the list to obtain a mig machine before a tig.

    What about all the pitting on valance? Bondo?

    • @hcr-motorworks
      @hcr-motorworks  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      All those spots are previous rust and corrosion spots. It erodes the surface and creates pitting. Once we cleaned up all the rust we primed it and saved it from further rusting. All we have to do now is prep to skim coat with filler and sand it down to smooth out all the imperfections

      We treated the previous rust areas with ospho to neutralize the rust, once its neutralized you can prep and prime as normal and it prevents any more oxidation and rusting again. Skim coat of filler and some sanding will have it smoothed out and perfect once again. Good luck with your project!
