Well the manga is actually adapting the original web novel that is finished and looks no where near as good and has 150 chapters of plot and 300 of side stories. It got an OVA adaptation in its art style. The manga adaptation is going chronologically combining the main and side stories into one and right now we've been in the side stories for a good bit which is why it gets called slow.
The "Big Four" of Seinen are all historical action Seinen: Berserk, Vagabond, Vinland Saga & Kingdom
Edit: This title doesn't necessarily mean "best" or "most popular". These four series all being action based are typically compared to each other in a fashion similar to the Big Three. Hence the similar naming convention

Did they ever talk about Kindom? I somehow started watching the Anime for that last year right when the 3rd season came out and caught up to it rather quickly. I really enjoyed it but sadly they still didn´t come back with the 3rd season yet.

In Japan in and several part around the world manga is huge.
In the west mainly the US it is known, but anime is far more popular
We Westerners are spoiled by video streaming services like Netflix where movies and tv shows are all easily consumed on almost any device.
From what I've learned about becoming a manga reader, is the fact that many studios like to skip over important details that explains why certain characters do what they do and why certain arcs turn out the way they do.

@@lmaAsian Absolutely , I had seen the anime first and then the manga , they made all the characters soulless when in the manga even the refs had a good presence , but it was clear the way they just wanted money the way they removed characters important to the plot , removed entire chapters worth of content and didn't even do the CGI part properly
I don't really hide. But the problem is that those around me with whom I talk about anime/manga seem to shut down at the mention of "reading". They prefer content where they can simply "absorb" it without any effort.
I actually find watching anime more "energy consuming". When I read manga, manhwas or webtoons it's easier to simply "absorb" without really concentrate. But maybe it's just me?
@@matcnt8861 No its not just you, it is literally the reason why most readers switch over from anime. That or because the selection of anime pales in comparison to manga, webtoons, and novels.
To the 2nd point, this is a guess but I wouldnt be surprised if all the anime titles combined doesnt even account for a percent of all manga. Not even webtoons or novels, just manga. Which is ironic that it feels like manga readers are the few hiding under a hole even though its really the anime fans who are stuck in a little bubble
@@lmaAsian There are also original animes out there. For example this season we got Sk♾️ to the infinity ( a skateboarding anime ) animated by Studio Bones which is an original anime. Eva was an original show. So was Cowboy Bepop.
@@lmaAsian because it's massive the readers are also diverse in their own niche "hole". I, for example, love Yuri and Historical fantasy (War between kingdoms, epics, succesion drama, stuff like that) but, i can only discussed it with a bunch of people on the comment section of some manga website (which not that interactive) or reddit if someone even read it. Of course there's popular tittle from those genre that can easily discussed within the community but most of the time i think everyone has passed that and hyping some hidden gems they currently reading.

I wonder if that’s why cause you’re reading one thing listening to another thing and trying to watch what happens while reading vs just reading in a manga and your imagination just automatically fills in the gaps. I like when my imagination takes off with a story. I think it might just depend on the person and how well they can visualize themselves without much effort. For instance I definitely don’t read as much as I used to. Books would absolutely dazzle me as a child and I still love them but like most things in your childhood they change to a degree in your adulthood. The good thing about the manga community is that it still functions the same way it was 20 years ago, more or less. The easiest way to picture it is this: Remember how the anime online community used to be before anime became mainstream, before the anime community started to almost only focus on seasonal shows? That's the way the manga online community still is. With people reading stories without only following what's new, instead just reading whatever we find and whatever recommendation we decide to follow. Then, there's also the Fan Translation aspect to this. Like how people used to follow anime translators who fan subs, people follow scanlation groups and due to the way fan translators are, no matter what year we currently, we can still see old manga stories pop up in the manga reading sites when someone decided to translate an old series that hadn't had a translation yet. And so, we simultaneously follow manga stories that were released in many different years. We also talk a lot in the comments for the chapters and in forums about the stories we read.
The main reason the manga online community isn't well known among anime fans is because it is incredibly lowkey on TH-cam, with almost no presence there. A lot of anime fans also don't want to delve into manga. Most of the time manga readers try to recommend stories and talk about said stories, we're instead brushed off and ignored because "reading."
On a similar note, the web/light novel online community is in a similar situation as the manga one, except that in the novel community there's a much bigger tendency for people to follow the translators themselves and read on their sites instead of reading on aggregator sites. Most WN and LN fans find novels through the Novel Updates site (which only contains info about the novels and about who is translating them and where to find said translations, but you can't read them on Novel Updates) or from recommendations.
The way I see it, the Anime Community hasn't been one with the Manga Community for YEARS (for almost a decade now). For example, Horimiya started being very popular in the manga community back in 2012, and back then it was even talked about by several anime/manga TH-camrs. However, even back then the anime and manga communities weren't exactly the same. Those who focused almost entirely on anime (like Gigguk) never came in contact with it. Gigguk does read manga, but not that much (he mostly reads manga of anime he's watched and those that were recommended to him or those that are very mainstream (yes, Berserk IS mainstream in terms of manga)).
The manga community is actually VERY active. It's not that we're not trying to reach out to the anime community. It's more so that we're being ignored and brushed off.
No one will read this (lol) but what you say is true. The majority of the western anime community simply doesnt give a fuck about reading. Whereas I bet manga and anime discussions are intertwined over on the japanese web. I wonder why this divide came to be?
@@lmaAsian It came to be mostly as a result of the mediums through which anime became more mainstream: official subs, the obsession with seasonals for relevance and the TH-cam anime community.
All of that while on the other hand the manga side of things didn't change.
100 percent agree, I enjoy the manga community so much more now that I’m in college. I really don’t have time for anime anymore so I read manga,Manwha, and webnovels and the community is so welcoming and funny. The anime community doesn’t feel the same to me anymore because it’s become main stream. So I enjoy sitting and replying to comments about a manga I’m in love with and sometimes it feels more wholesome. Unlike very toxic anime watchers lol
Yup you got it covered. Also many of us reader feel that its better to stick to its original source. Being manga/LN/WN reader make one taste of story become broader as we tend to explore more gems.
Sometime when it get animated after years, the anime either good, ok or bad for us because we long become attached to the series and have expectation especially for the one we valued a lot.
@@fourthjewel There's also a third rare case in which manga is directly recommended to you. I did watch TV-aired anime before I got into manga but what got me into reading manga was my friend recommending me romcom titles.

Romance manga never gets adapted It’s make me mad. Horimiya has been out for like 10+ years but now it’s just getting a anime.

Romance manga that great but don't have season 2 is 'Akatsuki no Yona' and 'Soredemo Sekai Ga Utsukushi'. The plot of both series is top tier

You begin knowing the best sites (but we buy a lot too once official translations come out of course ❤️) like the yaoi community has their whole community of mangago and then there’s the otome isekai community, then the horror community, the webtoon communities, etc.etc. You begin meeting people in comments even lol

As a manga reader it just feels so nice to have such a huge catalogue of stories. It's also nice to not have to think about if it's going to have good animation or bad animation since the only thing that can be a turn off is the art style in that sense.
That was me for toilet bound hanako kun, one piece, and berserk. I’ve stuck to manga ever since lol. Even if one piece the new season looks good I rather read the manga.
Most of the manga I read is slice of life and have heard that quite a lof of people found the genre boring. So, I just genuinely don't know what to say when other people talked about shounen and stuff
A lot of the issues they had with manga in this episode seem to be more prevalent with action and shounen manga, at least in my experience. Perhaps it’s why I primarily enjoy slice of life, shoujo, and rom com manga

Vagabond won't come back. They recently released an epilogue chapter that was made in 2008 for an expo but was never released to the public and that's basically the ending.
And the releases of the new serie by the same author (real) are painfully slow.
The second an anime is announced the manga readers have to shut their mouth and hide because from that point on everything they know about the show is considered a spoiler.
In the public sphere anime viewers get the power to control what info is allowed to be public.
But there are the chaotic bunch that just spoil some major scenes, or the reasonable one that gives you hints but not spoil as much.

Maybe you aren't active in the Manga community.I've now been active in the Manga community and pretty much know mangas that haven't been adapted yet and the mangas that are currently publishing.
For example Spy Family was trending not so long ago which doesn;t even have an adaptation.

I've recently become a Manga reader and it is so weird. When I mention I read Manga to other weebs they look at me like I am an uber weeb despite my only outward weebinees being my Fire Emblem amiibos on my desk.
Also I am here to preach the good word of Dungeon Meshi and I Sold My Lifespan for 10,000 Yen.
As a Horimiya manga reader, even I didnt know it was actually that popular. In fact, I didnt know if it was popular enough to get adapted when I first heard about it becoming an anime.

I remember seeing Spy x Family on a manga site I used way back when it first came out. Being a high school freshman at the time, I thought "naw, this is way too stupid to be good". So I passed the series up.
Fast forward a few years to present day, and the first episode had me hooked.

I’d argue there are so many niches in the manga world that never make it to the anime. The reason why Garnt never heard of horimiya is problably because he never reads shoujos and joseis. Although some would argue horimiya is neither of the two categories mentioned above it would usually pop up as a recommendation to shoujos and joseis.
I’ve been reading horimiya since the first 30chapters(that was like ages ago) but I don’t discuss it much with my Otaku friends since what they watch is mainstream and what they read is another niche I’m not very interested in. Which is probably what happened here to garnt, and I doubt any of the trash taste guys are remotely interested in shoujos to hear about the rare good ones that would appeal to a general audiance.
I felt the same why there are so many masterpiece manga that I haven't notice such as I Sold My Lif e For Ten Thousand Ten Per Year or others call Three Days Of Happiness. It is MASTERPIECE. I suggest people read this manga. It really make people cry.

Personally, I prefer manga over anime because of how quick I can nyoom through the chapters and use my imagination to play the scene. Yeah, anime provides awesome music and voices the characters, but have you read a manga at your own pace, your imagination providing all the colours and sounds in your mind? I know that feeling, I got this (not so legal) app where I have like 600 mangas, and i finished the majority, but there is also a part that I haven't even started, and now that look back at it, I see it as too much effort to start something new

Horimiya was the first manga I ever read on its own and not as a means to get to the ending of an anime I liked. Fast forward probably about 5 years and I don't even watch anime anymore but I still read a lot of manga.
It's gotten to the point where I'll hear about a good anime currently airing and my first reaction is to seek out the manga.
I don't talk about the mangas cuz I feel like I might spoil someone

Reminds me of the higher dimensions of the Magi universe. I figured up to the point where it was introduced that there was at least one higher dimension but there are apparently many more however, the ending of the series was rushed so we never got to explore any of them despite how it was built up and seemingly supposed to happen. Makes me wish the series would get a semi-reboot where it picks up from right before it started to get rushed so we could explore the higher dimensions for what was supposed to be the plot which, was actually a rather novel idea. I don't accept the lackluster ending we got.

I find that people don't really have an interest in manga unless it gets turned into an anime
Hence why masterpieces like Oyasumi Punpun, Vagabond, 20th Century Boys & REAL aren't that well known

That is kind of true. Although I’ve read many manga, the reason I’ve read quite a few was because of the anime. Take Akatsuki no Yona, for example. I watched the anime (except the OVA’s I didn’t know about them yet) and I really annoyed it, and felt that there was meant to be so much more to the story, (spoiler alert, there is, the manga is still on-going) since the anime was about meeting main characters, and introduction. This has also been the case with a few other manga. However, I do read a lot of manga now.
Vampires in Gantz? What about ESP in Gantz, two characters with it and that was it! Also, aliens. I wanted more of all of that honestly.

I LIKE MY ROCK. It feels like manga doesn't have the new hotness social interaction and immediate feedback loop of well marketed timed tv releases. It's probably the main reason. The main manga hype or marketing is new releases like the newest shounen, but you have like 3 chapters available, and the hype dies fast.
I feel like the difference between manga enthusiasts and anime enthusiasts is that most manga readers don’t make manga an inexorable part of their identity. I see that WAY more in hardcore anime fans.
5:00 The thing about the introduction of the dark continent is that it also lend it self for us to know more about the actual observable world. They('trash podcast') say we know what we need to know, but when we get into the expedition arc, we get a lot of info about all the kingdoms and factions of the world and all the headfigures that we never really had a reason to know about yet are clearly important to the way the world has been working.
You can't actually make a picture of what the makeup of society and the political sphere of the HxH world is, not untill the expedition arc starts, and Togashi has a fun interesting reason to show them to us as important players in this new "game" of conquest.(every arc we had a good chunk of knowledge based on different "games"/"peak of their respective worlds" that the respective arc plays on, first high class hunting games, then high class assassins, high class Fighting, the high class Underworld, the high class Videogame spehre, Exterminations, local politics/social-structure, and now expeditions/conquest.)
So while I can sorta understand the criticism that can be had there, I also think saying it's a cheap "there's more" undercuts how every arc has been "there's more", and only now it feels like we are getting to the bottom of the barrel in terms of what makes up all the countries and kingdoms of hxh now that they have a common cause to band/fight/be involved in the expedition to this "new land". Not to mention that it happened due to a character/figure that has their own unique twist on "let's shake things up for fun"+"let's conquer new ground".

As an avid manga reader, we hang out on discord or the comments of manga upload sites. If you love something, there is a discord for it. The rest of the time we are in our basements, curled up under a blanket, reading.

I remember telling my friends and everyone I knew about this cool new manga Kingdom years ago, nobody had any clue what I was talking about, now everyone has heard of it. I think it is because manga don't let you vege out like anime and sometimes you also have to actively look for what you want as well in a giant ocean of stuff. Some become well known and others don't but with anime you will always have your seasonal stuff you can connect and talk about.

This year/season I’m posting this comment (spring/summer 2022) a lot of the romance manga that I’ve been reading for some time or been catching up to it have been getting an anime adaptation. And I’ve been absolutely surprised how much manga that I’ve been reading that have been getting an anime adaptation. I really enjoy reading romance so this has been nice, but I might be putting extremely high expectations for the mangas getting adapted (because most of them I enjoy a lot or my favourites), so il be observing for now :D

Manga reader here: I just don’t really use social media. I only comment on YT videos about anime when I’ve already read the manga and I sometimes just use anime recommendation videos to figure out if there is a manga already out.

As a person whose read manga since they were 11 and is turning 24 in a couple of months, us manga readers have always been in the background in the anime community LOL we always talk with eachother on the internet after we’ve read a chapter and talk about the things we love in manga and the things we hate and changes we want for the future of manga and the industry. To be honest I read Horimiya when it was barely out and until this day it’s one of my favorite shoujo romance manga out their 💖 I’ve been wanting for more than a decade for it to be greenlit to get a anime series and when the creators announced it I was flipping with joy. I don’t know if manga readers really make a huge impact unless we buy physical copies especially with how little English translated manga their is out their but we really try to put awareness on amazing manga to people or friends from the anime community. It was harder before to convince people to read manga but now with the new generation hyping them up in and increasing physical manga sales and expanding the anime community it’s nice to get new voices out their whether we can agree or disagree LOL 🤗🤷♀️✨

personally I prefer to read manga over watching anime, because there are a ton of hidden gems that deserve an anime adaptation but never gained enough traction to actually get one, which is a damn shame
Facts, in the end, I ended up treasuring a unique story and/or artstyle more than some nice animation. Furthermore, if the adaptation has a good OST, I can just pair it up with the manga. It’s what I do with Berserk, for example
