Hey you guys, just wanted to let you know this does work! I hadn't used my laptop for over a year (since 2015). I finally pulled it out and got a new charger for it (previous one broke). noticed I had this problem and came up here and followed the steps. When I first turned it back on after putting the battery back in it stayed on one percent for a few minutes maybe like 10. so I closed my laptop and opened it back up. it was still on 1%. I turned my head and looked back and it was at 20% and now it's charging steadily. This is the first charge so I haven't let it die yet, but I will once I get to that far. I'll let you guys know how it goes from there.

I was so worried that my laptop was doomed and I'd have to pay a fortune to get it fixed or buy a new one, but I decided to give this a try and it worked. I'm not at all a techy or computer person and I got it on my own on the first try. Thank you, Nick!!! You rock :-)

i had the same problem with a hp2000. I bought a batttery first and tried this procedure. and it failed. I had a generic after market 90w charger and plugged it in and worked. so i compared the 2. the voltages are slightly different by 1 volt. but the amperage is 1amp greater on the after market charger. I'll run a meter on both chargers and see if there is a voltage problem.

Appears to have worked on an HP 15 Windows 10, version 10.0.16299.125 (at least it's charging now - until the next Windows 10 update, lol). It was stuck on 1% and not charging. Following the instructions in this video produced the desired results. It took about 4 minutes to perform the steps. It may not work for every situation but if your battery is good and your charger is good then you should try this. A biG THANKS for the quick video that got right to the point.

Hi, I tried the steps in your video, and they WORKED! So, my question is, what is the reason for the problem, and why do these steps fix it? Also, on the first and second recharges, the battery was charged up to 100%. However, on the third, recharging stopped at 80%. I let the battery discharge down to ~77%, then plugged in AC power, and it recharged again up to 80%, and stopped. BTW, it was at 80% when I first noticed the issue, which your video steps fixed. Any ideas about what may be going on? Thanks!

  • @dashok8663

Works like a charm! To me, key was to let the battery drain completely in step 12 even after the laptop shut itself down by itself by hitting the power button and letting it continue. I tried several other suggestions for over six months and the battery full charge kept dropping. Thanks for the video and simple to follow instructions.

+Caprica Six , and everyone on this thread. You have to shut down the PC and unplug it (for safety reasons) BEFORE you take the battery out. THEN, (without the battery) plug it in, turn on to Windows, uninstall drivers mentioned on the video, shut off again, unplug, put battery back on, re-plug, turn on PC. That's it.
PS. If your PC doesn't turn on with just the power adapter, you might have (1) a broken AC jack, or (2) a bad power adapter.

Some batteries are not removable because they use an epoxy to seal it. This is often seen on the really slim stuff. Basically, you are fucked. You could bring it to a tech, but usually it will cost more to repair than to buy a new one. Next time check that you can replace the battery.

    1.Go to device manager.
2.Click on Batteries, this should bring up 3 sections.
3.Right click on all batter categories and then chose scan for hardware changes on each one..

This didn't work for me, but what finally did is simpler:
Key concept: An OS like Windows will automatically shut the laptop off when it THINKS the battery is low, even if the voltage is still OK. BIOS setup will let it run until power is truly gone and the voltage drops too low.
    1) With the battery in and the laptop plugged in, turn it on.
    2) Immediately go into BIOS setup. Hit ESC, DEL, F8, F2, whatever your laptop takes.
    3) Do not leave setup. Just let it sit there.
    3) Unplug the laptop, but leave the battery in
    4) Let the battery drain until the laptop shuts off due to lack of voltage.
    5) Plug it back in and boot it up. Presto! The battery fully charges.

I'm working on the same problem. I finally purchased new batteries that are (in my case) direct from Lenovo. I had a battery that I suspected was black-market and after a few months it prevented the laptop from powering up when said black-market battery was in place so I removed it and was able to operate. Now (with the Lenovo battery) it works with batteries in place, but charging is intermittent. The solution so far is to power down, remove battery, re-install battery, power up and charging is OK again. Arrrrrrrrrrgh!

You don't need to do any of the above. Leave the battery in, go to the search box and type 'device manager,' delete the drivers under the 'Battery' listing, right click 'scan for new hardware'. Job done! Your pc will see the battery and install new drivers.
