I purchased my laptop in January of 2024. All of a sudden, it was no longer charging. I spent a lot of time troubleshooting and ultimately had to turn to DELL support for help. I was on chat with them for HOURS. They decided I needed a new charging adapter and motherboard. I decided to keep doing my own research and found your video. The first method you showed worked like a charm. Less than 5 minutes and it was fixed. THANK YOU! ( Dell Inspiron 15 - 3520 Windows 11).

Omg. I'm a technophobe but had even resorted to opening my laptop and putting my battery in and out, I was that frustrated, but you have resolved my issue and made it look so so easy - THANK YOU!
You missed the discharge part it's when you take the battery out unplug the device hold down the power button for 30 seconds then put the battery back in then plug it into the wall, from there turn on the computer. In that process you're discharging all power and capacitors in your device, which could potentially fix the problem as well.
Good suggestion, just replaced a dead battery with a new one in latitude 7490, was charging fully but would shut off as soon as charger was disconnected. Opened laptop -> Disconnected battery connector -> held down power for 60 seconds, connected battery and powered back on without charger Thanks!
I bought a refurbished lenovo ideapad 330 and it worked well when plugged in and the battery was fully charged. But when I disconnected the plug and the laptop went into sleep mode, then it didnt switch on again. I did both procedures in your video and my laptop now works! Excellent video!

Wow! I was skeptical, but it worked! I went to Device Manager > Batteries and disabled the Microsoft ACPI Compliant Battery function. Got message saying I had to restart to let the changed setting take place. Did that, then with the computer running I pulled the plug from the charger and the computer stayed on! So then I opened Device Manager and enabled the ACPI Compliant Battery function again. This was with the laptop running on the battery. Again got the message needing to restart, so I did, and it still works. The battery icon is back and seems to show the correct battery charge, still running on battery. Then I plugged in the charger again, and it shows that the battery is charging. Seems to be perfect, like it was before the problem showed up. You saved me from buying a new internal battery pack. Before watching your video I had opened up the computer and used a multimeter to check the voltage at the battery connector, and there was zero volts. I thought maybe there was a fuse inside the battery pack to prevent a meltdown in case of a short circuit. But I followed your procedure and all is A-OK again. Thanks! My laptop is an Acer Predator Helios 300 that's about 3 years old. I have rarely used it on battery power, but it was always fine when I did, until a day or two ago. I had opened the case to replace the boot SSD with a bigger one, and after that was the first time I had a problem with running on battery. I thought maybe I had accidentally pulled the internal battery connector, but checked, unplugged and replugged it, but no joy. I still don't understand why disabling the ACPI battery control, restarting, then enabling it again would cure the problem. But it did! You saved me a lot of further expense and grief. Thanks!
it worked for me on Dell Inspiron 5566. It needed quite a few updates including BIOS, but that alone did not clear up the power off when unpluged. The enable / disable did fix it. You rock ! thank you.
Thanks for this. My battery seems to have "suddenly" died, since it was working perfectly well and easily holding 3h of charge. A few days ago the pc starting shutting off immediately after removal of the adapter cord, but strangely enough it always shows 78% of charge. I've tried your method with the battery and adapter as well, checked the voltage of the adapter and other methods, to no avail. I'm thinking it could be a software issue but I'm running out of ideas and tutorials... Maybe the last windows update did it...

Many thanks - I tried both tricks unsuccessfully on my 2014 Toshiba Satellite. However, I learned a lot - eventually I bit the bullet, unscrewed the base of the laptop and took out the small CMOS battery (a CR2032). Hello, first of all, I like to thank you for your excellent and easy presentation on fixing laptop batteries. (Battery is working now) I like your presentation setup with the computer desktop background and your headshot in the lower corner. May I get help from you on how to do it? I have been teaching many classes remotely for the past few months, and your setup will be great for math classes. I appreciate any help you can provide.
I almost cried when the battery plugged in but not increasing the charge because I only have the laptop for one week... the first method works for me. Thanks a million After the disable and enable, I restart my computer.. that works for me.

It helped me hopefully it helps you. Tip: wait for your battery to drain out before charging it again
thanks man. the second option actually worked. funny random info my laptop battery was consistently on 69% no matter how long i had it on the charger, and yeah as soon as i disconnected it it would go off. come back on still at 69%. tried this video, it hit 70% i knew it was fixed right there🎉 edit: it was only a temporary fix
Thanks for watching! It's possible your battery is failing but also likely that your battery is having trouble talking to Windows. If you have already followed the steps in the video then next try the Battery troubleshooter (search for this in the Windows search bar) and run the diagnostic. Next, make sure that your BIOS and chipset are updates. Next power down your laptop completely, hold the power button for 30 seconds, and plug in the adapter while holding the button and start the computer. If these don't work, disconnect your battery internally, hold the power button down for 30 seconds, reconnect it, and try charging your battery and using it again!
@Bamlak ChernetHI.. i gave my laptop to service center, they check and said that it is due update issue. so first try the method said in video and just check your pc is up to date or not. still you have any issue means the problem may be with your battery check the battery condition and try to replace it if it is damaged.
My laptop just switches off whenever i remove charger from it. It works only when its charging. As you said,At start i did the device manager thing and yes it worked I unplugged the charger and saw that my laptop was working fine but after 2 to 3 minutes it just switches off.I did the Cmd thing too but still same problem occurs. Beforely, it was unable to start without Charger plugged in but now it can start but only holds for 2 3 minutes. I am just fed up of this. My laps battery is irremovable so i cant remove it.
Thanks for watching and I'm sorry that you are still having trouble. If it worked for a couple of minutes that does tell us something though. When your power adapter is plugged in does the battery say charging? Is your battery able to reach 100% charge?
The only other thing I would suggest is to do a power cycle on your battery but you will have to take the cover off to disconnect the battery. Here are the steps: Power down the computer. Unplug the wall adapter. Uninstall the battery. Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds. Re-install the battery. Plug in the wall adapter. Turn on the computer.
If you apply the fix again does it work again for a while? Be sure that Windows, motherboard chipset, and other drivers are completely up to date on your laptop!
@@AskaComputerGeek Thanks for the reply sir The solution will work only for a day. If I try to switch on the laptop in the morning, i am not able to do it without getting it plugged in. Windows is updated regularly. I have upgraded from 4gb ram to 8 gb ram a month back. Apart from this, there is no other hardware updates.
It still doesn't work. If I want to play or use it I have to plug in the charger :( I'm scared to tell this to my parents since they just got this laptop last month.
I may be 1 month late 🙏 since theres no reply... after doing the command prompt steps I went to Power and sleep settings > additional power settings Then above Balanced(reccommended) you will see "Change plan settings" in blue text Click on Change plan settings > Change advanced power settings > then scroll down you will see "Display" click on + then It will say "turn of Display after" "On battery: 5 minutes" "Plugged in: 5 minutes" Just click on those and click down arrow so it will be on 5..4..3..2.1 minutes then it will say "Never" Make sure its on Never then click Apply I just fixed it today and i finally was able to unplug my charger peacefully(without telling my parents 😂) Edit: IT DOESNT WORK OMG WTF
Definitely think you should tell your parents, can’t see why they would be mad, it may just be defective and if they can get warranty work on it then it’s a win!
I have my laptop here, i always need to plug it in (charge) for it to open. when i don't it just doesn't turn on or when i take off the charger it turns off.
Me too. And also I need to wait a few minute before I can turn on my laptop. If I do it immediately, it will stuck on the logo and will not starting up
OH MAN !!! Your Are a Life SAVER !!!!!! I Got a new battery yesterday and this problem wasn't solved But the second option you gave worked for me !!! Many Thanks I Owe you a treat !!😀🥰😍
That's a good tip. Other sites are saying to DELETE the power driver (or all of them), cycle the machine on and off, and let Windows auto-install it/them at start-up. I'm a LOT more comfortable just disabling and re-enabling the driver, unless I want to clone my entire machine to another SSD first -- as I don't want to mess up my machine if something goes wrong when trying this. By the way, to me it's outrageous how PC makers are now making it so hard for folks to self-repair, doing things like making the battery unaccessable externally, or even having a soldered wire attaching the battery to the mother board. I've been buying Dell E6430's and DellE6440's refurbished from corporate lease machines in good shape for CHEAP (like $150 to $200) from reliable refurbishers. (If you get them this cheap, they'll generally have a small old HDD). Since those (2011 to 2014 vintage for those two models) are SUPER EASY to maintain re both the hard drive or SSD and the battery, the repair manuals are online, etc. they're ideal for users to upgrade the data drive (two screws, and slide the bay), replace the battery (easy external access with two slides and no screws), etc. THANK YOU for videos like this. Between you great TH-cam video makers, and outfits like Dell willing (in the past) to have easily maintainable PC's and online documentation, PC owners can keep some old PC's going without spending a fortune or being a techie or mechanical type.
This was my case, battery had expanded, so i replaced the battery . I disabled, re enabled ,deleted, reinstalled drivers, updated drivers, restoring power settings etc. Nothing worked so far, now laptop is lagging after battery replacement and battery not charging past 75%?. Didnt have this issue with the previous battery replacement when it were working properly. Or just using the laptop without the battery and with the wall brick.
I disabled the battery via device manager and when I unplugged the AC adapter to see whether it's now just working on AC power or not to my surprise it was still running on battery. The only change I noticed was the battery icon disappeared. This doesn't work it seems.
hi, Josh! Thank you for making the video. I have some questions related to, and out of this topic. 1. I have an old laptop (ASUS X550J from 2015) that I use as a secondary storage, and it will only work when plugged in. The battery symbol exists and it shows "0%, plugged in" when I hover the cursor to it. Is it safe to disable the Adapter as you showed starting in 01:52 ? My biggest worry is that it'd just shut off and couldn't be turned on again, so I haven't tested the method yet. 2. The primary laptop I use (ASUS ROG GA502D) seems to be draining battery when I checked the Battery Health Report via CMD. Is there a way to somehow fix the health of the battery? If so, how do I do it? If not, how long, or when is the time I should get a replacement battery? 3. Do you happen to have any social media we can follow to connect to you more directly? I somehow struck upon this channel and I'm glad I did. Your explanations in your videos are very concise. I look forward to your reply. Cheers, PlasmaDrone P.S: Keep up the good work! I wish you all the best for your channel to grow. It's very top notch :D :D
Thank you for your kind words - I'm glad I can help! As for your issues... 1. I would say that if it is working when plugged in there should be no issue disabling the adapter on that laptop. Worst case you can always boot up in safe mode and revert back. 2. Are you saying that you disabled the battery adapter and you are seeing that the battery is draining? Or just wondering, in general, to protect the battery's health? Laptop batteries last, on average about 500 full cycles of discharge/charge and the most surefire way to prevent battery degradation would be to physically disconnect it/remove it. Let me know if that didn't answer your question fully. 3. I don't but maybe I should! Not sure what the best platform would be....any ideas?
@@AskaComputerGeek thankies for the replies, Josh! 1. Very well. I'll try test it when I have the time, then. How do I boot in Safe Mode, tho? 2. No, I didn't disable anything on it. I just noticed the draining, and reaffirmed it after checking it via CMD. Unfortunately the only way to remove the ASUS ROG GA502D's battery is to disassemble the bottom part, which isn't very ideal compared to the laptops where you could just snap it off. 3. I think FB and Twitter would be a good start :) :)
Directions for safe mode: support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/start-your-pc-in-safe-mode-in-windows-10-92c27cff-db89-8644-1ce4-b3e5e56fe234 Yeah taking out internal batteries isn't ideal and should only be done if you don't plan on using the battery for a while. With that said, it's not terribly difficult. My latest video on fixing blank screens goes through the process in pretty good detail.
Hello so I have a question. when I did “enable device” it said “locking” on the whole screen and then it shut down So my question is, is that a problem that it turned off? Could you please answer?
My laptop's power button never turns on the laptop. It has to be plugged in, and when I slowly start to unplug, I spam the power button, then it turns on. But after a few weeks of not using the laptop, my method did not work. At first, I tried opening up the back of the laptop and unplugging and plugging the battery connector back in to see if it boots up. It did, but the problem is that when I unplug it, it turns off instantly. And I noticed that the battery percentage never moved. Thank you very much for the helpful tip. I tried the first two at the same time, and to my surprise my laptop no longer commits die when I unplug, and the battery is no longer stuck at 95%.
Make sure that your machine is completely updated (Windows, BIOS, chipset) first. If it still doesn't work then you could disconnect your battery internally, press the power button for 30 seconds, reconnect the battery, and try again.

@Bamlak ChernetHI.. i gave my laptop to service center, they check and said that it is due update issue. so first try the method said in video and just check your pc is up to date or not. still you have any issue means the problem may be with your battery check the battery condition and try to replace it if it is damaged.

You are so welcome - thanks for watching!
My brother from another mother, Thank you. You saved me a lot of money. Subbed.
Thank you so much, Sir! It helps a lot.
Thank you so much. The ACPI method worked for me🚀🚀
My laptop starts hanging and runs laggy as soon as plugged off, could you pleas assist me with the problem.
It works totally fine while plugged in
its because its set to low power mode. when it unplugs
thank you it worked you deserve a follower
@@AskaComputerGeek yaa it do says its charging
no it isnt its always like 93% 94%
The only other thing I would suggest is to do a power cycle on your battery but you will have to take the cover off to disconnect the battery. Here are the steps:
Power down the computer.
Unplug the wall adapter.
Uninstall the battery.
Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds.
Re-install the battery.
Plug in the wall adapter.
Turn on the computer.
@@AskaComputerGeek but the battery's are irremovable.😑
Thanks man. It literally worked. I just can't believe it.😊
Hi,
The first method worked and I used the laptop normally for two days.
Now the same problem has come again.
Please suggest me the way ahead
If you apply the fix again does it work again for a while? Be sure that Windows, motherboard chipset, and other drivers are completely up to date on your laptop!
@@AskaComputerGeek
Thanks for the reply sir
The solution will work only for a day.
If I try to switch on the laptop in the morning, i am not able to do it without getting it plugged in.
Windows is updated regularly.
I have upgraded from 4gb ram to 8 gb ram a month back. Apart from this, there is no other hardware updates.
1st method worked. Thanks alot
It still doesn't work. If I want to play or use it I have to plug in the charger :( I'm scared to tell this to my parents since they just got this laptop last month.
Check out a few other comments on this video and try some of those suggestions and see if they work!
My problem is the computer doesn’t like the battery
I may be 1 month late 🙏 since theres no reply...
after doing the command prompt steps I went to Power and sleep settings > additional power settings
Then above Balanced(reccommended) you will see "Change plan settings" in blue text
Click on Change plan settings > Change advanced power settings > then scroll down you will see "Display"
click on + then It will say
"turn of Display after"
"On battery: 5 minutes"
"Plugged in: 5 minutes"
Just click on those and click down arrow so it will be on 5..4..3..2.1 minutes then it will say "Never"
Make sure its on Never then click Apply
I just fixed it today and i finally was able to unplug my charger peacefully(without telling my parents 😂)
Edit: IT DOESNT WORK OMG WTF
@@Jogade you had me going there till I saw the “Edit:” at the end LOL :(
Definitely think you should tell your parents, can’t see why they would be mad, it may just be defective and if they can get warranty work on it then it’s a win!
First method worked for me! Thank you 😊
I have my laptop here, i always need to plug it in (charge) for it to open.
when i don't it just doesn't turn on or
when i take off the charger it turns off.

This doesn't work it seems.
same, prob with me
You have to restart and then enable again and restart again
Mine has failed too🥺
Thank you, even after a year this still works
Cheers,
PlasmaDrone
P.S: Keep up the good work!

Yeah taking out internal batteries isn't ideal and should only be done if you don't plan on using the battery for a while. With that said, it's not terribly difficult. My latest video on fixing blank screens goes through the process in pretty good detail.
@@AskaComputerGeek how long can we use the laptop after disabling the adaptor?

Hello so I have a question. when I did “enable device” it said “locking” on the whole screen and then it shut down So my question is, is that a problem that it turned off? Could you please answer?
what happened to ur laptop now?
@@trumanblack26 it didn’t turn on without charger
Thanks for watching and I'm glad it fixed your problem!
