    Chevy SHOULD have recalled this. It's RIDICULOUS that so many people are having to fix their design flaw to prevent replacing the timing chain and all that goes along with it (which is a very expensive repair - ask me how I know) or blowing the entire engine, which has also happened to plenty of people. I'm gonna be salty about this till I die. ANYWAY...
    Great video with excellent, clear explanations. Wish I had seen it sooner.

    By modifying the PCV valve size you in turn changing the air-fuel mixture. The engine computer is tuned to the exact size of that opening, if you make it larger without a tune, the larger amount of unmetered air is flowing into each cylinder will create a lean condition. A better alternative to drilling, would be to remove the PCV once every while and give it a clean.

      I disagree. A hole can only flow so much air correct? The more load you put your engine under, the more blowby gases you have in the crankcase that need to be ventilated. Therefore, Chevy would have to make this whole big enough from the start to handle any amount of crankcase pressure the car would have at any point in the powerband. Lets say they made the hole big enough to account for X amount of air at idle, then under load the crankcase would still build pressure at full throttle because of more blowby gases being present and overcoming X amount of air. I'm sure they made the hole big enough to handle excess pressure at all RPM's and gave it some room. My point is, if you have a 3 inch whole that is capable of flowing 300cc's for example and the engine only put out 250cc's through it at MAX. If we made that hole 4 inches, it does not change what the engine puts out because it is bigger. So Chevy made the pcv holes to get rid of a certain amount of excess gases but they would not allow it to max out every single time because this would still cause pressure build up. There has to be a margin of error to allow no pressure and to allow gases to flow freely. This hole being bigger just makes it harder for carbon deposits to build up and clog it. Now lets say you don't agree with what I am saying or don't understand it. This small difference in size would never allow the engine to lean out either way and is recommended across the world including in Australia and there has been no reports of leaning out as far as I have heard. Do what you want to with your car. To each its own.

    The point of the PCV modification is to help the PCV system flow correctly and eliminate oil consumption. Low oil level kills timing chains. The original PCV design is too restricted and the oil gets into the intake through the fresh air side. Fresh air side is on the intake duct and orifice is flows to the intake manifold. Difficult to explain but at least tried.

    A lot of ppl do this mod it seems to work ok but GM also fixed this issue but never told anyone about it they made a new gasket to go on the valve cover on that side of the motor. they recommend it be installed when timing chains get done by mechanics . instead of having the section over the crank case vent open the new gasket has it mostly blocked off with only a few small holes to let the crank case breath into the pcv valve area making it work effectively. i think if you use the new gasket and did this mod you wouldn't need the catch can as the amount of oil is not going to be anywhere near as much with the new gasket set up.

    • @mistermanage1119
      @mistermanage1119  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Even then, I would still use a catch can. There would still be dirty vapors containing oil going into the intake valves which would eventually decrease performance and cause you to have to clean them.

    I'm pretty sure our cars are both built on the same GM Zeta chassis too.
    From what I read that 5th Gen Camaro was the only one made on it. All other Zeta platform cars were Commodores.
    Hmm I wonder how similar all the bits are across the Camaro and Commodore

    I got 2006 cts and it burn oil like crazy It has 60 k on the engine. I did some research and did pcv bigger holes. Do you think it will help with my oil consumption ? Do I need PCV Oil Catch Can?

    • @mistermanage1119
      @mistermanage1119  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I personally would get a catch can because it's pretty much preventative maintenance. A bad pcv system could cause oil consumption. The reason why is if the blow by gases keep building up pressure in the crankcase and your valve is clogged or something is not letting the pressure be ventilated, the pressure will find a way out and that is most likely through gaskets and and anywhere else it can get out. That will cause you to have a bad gasket and have a oil leak which leads to oil consumption. Hope that helps.

    Is this mod is for port injection or direct injection motors ? or both ?
    Do the port injection motors gum up on the RH side due to small PCV, as well ?

    my motors spitting oil out looks like it’s from the front of the engine. the car only had 91k miles on it do you think this is why?

    • @mistermanage1119
      @mistermanage1119  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Pull it out and check it. It is a possibility. If its clogged, then its possible pressure was not able to get out and cause it to leak or blow the seal. But it could also be a million other things. If you have oil coming from the front, it can be the timing chain cover. I don't see your car so I'm not sure. I'm also NOT A MECHANIC. So take this advice as you will.
