    Great video. I saw some comments on not fun changing the rotors ? Is that because they can be tough getting off ?

      Not sure, but personally I don't think they would be, unless it's 4WD, maybe those are hard to do.

      @@OnlineAutoRepairVideos I have an 07' Dodge Ram 2500 with a 5.9 Cummins diesel and 4WD - No difference really, I think people are referring to these clips that are on each stud holding the rotor flush. To those putting on aftermarket rims, these must be removed and discarded because the aftermarket rims usually won't have the grooves present that allow for the presence of these clips/lock washers like the factory rims do. Very important to remove and keep off if going with aftermarket rims. You really don't need to put them back on even if just changing rotors and pads and staying with the factory rims either but keeping a few from each rotor and putting them on after putting new rotors on will help to keep the rotor nice and flush while you put your new pads in and caliper back on. But really what I do is put an old washcloth around one of the lower studs and using a pair of vice grips with it set just enough to hold the rotor in (don't want to damage them studs) that just does fine to keep the rotor flush while installing your new pads and putting the caliper back on.

    Would there be any need to install any of that orange anti squeal grease on the back of the pads or on the piston ?
    Thanks

    • @OnlineAutoRepairVideos
      @OnlineAutoRepairVideos  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That would be preference, but we never use it on the back of pads.

    • @Ron-fw6bm
      @Ron-fw6bm 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Used to be a time when it was needed to reduce noise. Today's pads all come with an anti-squeal/noise metal shim to eliminate noise so it really isn't needed at all.

      You really don't want to if you can avoid it. For these vehicles, the two caliper mount bolts are asked to be torqued to 250 ft. lbs. So does one really want to be trying to get these off and then having to torque them back on to 250 ft/ lbs? The only reason to have to take the mount off is if the threads are shot in one of the caliper bolt holes from crossthreading and/or if you're putting on new rotors. Ironically, the caliper bolts only ask for 26 ft. lbs. but a lot of guys don't know that, overtighten the caliper bolts and they break...ask me how I know...lol. Do NOT overtighten the caliper bolts. Do just like he says to in this vid. Tighten to stop, then a quarter turn. You're done.
      By the way, for reference, if you do ever have to take the caliper mount off, the manual says if you don't have Loctite you need to get new caliper mount bolts. But then if you were going to the auto parts store for new mount bolts why wouldn't you just pick up Loctite and use the old bolts? But I guess the point is to let you know, those caliper mount bolts need to be on there but good. Loctite AND torque to 250 ft. pounds. No joke to me. I'm sure guys that deal with heavy farm machinery and semi-tractors might think 250 ft. lbs. ain't no thing but for a regular vehicle I think that's some serious torque.

    How many miles did you have on the pads/rotors? The rotors will last long enough for the second set of pads? You don't have to get them turned? How have they been holding up? This is way easier than also replacing the rotors.

    • @OnlineAutoRepairVideos
      @OnlineAutoRepairVideos  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You should never have to turn the rotors. If you do, there is something binding up on that wheel.

      I guess the brakes aren't that bad, but I believe diesels are a whole different ball game when working on them, different kind of testers and some tools, so I'm not even going to try and pretend to know how to work on them. The three things we don't do is...
      #1 Transmissions
      #2 Body work
      #3 DIESELS!!!!
      LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!
