Thank you for your video. It really helped me when I had to change my rotors and pads. I had no idea what I was doing and this is very informative. definitely helped me, especially with getting the rotor off.
I had a hell of a time reinstalling the clips on a 1500......then I saw your technique. 1500 seems to be a bit tighter regarding access. Thanks for the help.
Nice vid. Couple three comments. 1. Yes, its a "parking brake" perhaps at one time it was an emergency brake. Kinda like Guard Rails are now "guide rails". 2. The 4 threaded holes you had the good fortune to use to drive the rotor off with are actually there for the wheel speed sensor tone ring on DRW trucks. Your brass hammer is a bit small to pull rotors. 3. Before removing a rotor you should back off the adjuster on the emergency brakes (lol). Ask me how I know. 4. Extra: If the caliper needs to be replaced you can put in pads etc on the bench then just 2 bolts under the truck.
Nice video.. I did not know there was an adjuster on the inside of the parking brake.. Now I know.. Mine is probably rusted up s I will probably just do a new install like you did.. Thanks for a nice video..
Came to see how you put the heavy yellow spring on. Denied… I wound up putting it on first, using a pry bar to get both shoes in place, then putting the small spring in the opposite side. First side took me 40 minutes, second side took 5. A c-clamp holding the shoes from moving while getting the pin clips on helped a lot.
Good video, I had 08 ram 2500 diesel, and mine did not have the bolt holes for removing the rotor, I was able to ping the rotor with my air hammer and then use a dead blow and pop the rotor off.
Great video! The rear seals started leaking on my 15 3500 and took out my parking brakes. I put my truck in neutral then set the parking before putting it in park, I know it's a sickness... I forget what my jack stands cost but it has nothing to do with the price of the truck. Hydraulics fail, it's just a matter of when.
Thanks for the video. If you think of the "parking brakes" and not "emergency brakes" you will probably use them all the time. 315k on mine, they are just not very tight anymore. A great time to check the wheel studs for replacement.
Thanks for taking the time to walk through this. My parking brakes used to stick, now they don’t work at all. So who knows atrocities await me when I pull the drums!!
Do not be afraid of this job. On mine it was easiest to just break the springs off. If they don't break they pop out so try to break them. 😅 It's rusty as heck but just pretend it's not there. 😂
My rig likes to stick in P, especially when it's cold. So when I park the old girl I shift the auto into neutral set the parking brake then back into P.
Hey brother, detailed video for sure but from the "Dodge" exploded views I looked at, you sir, have put the E-brake adjuster in backwards. i fear you may have trouble getting the adjuster backed off the next time you do the rears. You may NOT be able to gain access to the "star" nut on the adjuster. The star nut goes towards the front of the vehicle, so sez all the pics I've looked at. Hope it doesn't bite you in the butt, next time you do it. Cheers, Victor
Thanks for posting this, I needed a refresher course. FWIW, It's Nov-2021 & I'm just slapping a set of pads on the back of my '02 Ram 2500. On my truck, both of the caliper bolts have 13 mm heads. I bought the cheapest pads they had in stock; $27.50 + state sales tax. Parking brake? What's a parking brake? lol
Thanks for the vid! I use mine when loading/unloading equipment on a trailer. Noticed last week my p brake pedal now goes all the way to the floor now but still engages. Does your pedal only go down half way? I either snapped/stretched a cable or perhaps it was just getting bound up before.
I have a 2013 2500 Ram diesel. I us it to tow my RV . My ? is when you apply your foot brake does that engage your rear brakes as well to slow down your truck. TIA
Thanks for the vid. Buuuuuuuuut! #1 RULE when jacking anything up! DO NOT RELY ON THE JACK!!!!!!!Put jack stands under the axle first before working on the truck. Thanks for great description and commentary.
I hope to knock this out later this morning in 15 minutes also!!

It's way tighter on a 1500 and costs less too. 😂

Same here, it wouldn't budge with just a sledge, I needed that air hammer for sure.

Honestly I never use it, I should check it lol
I take it this will be the same for a 3500 single wheel drive?
Yes it should be

You mean applying the emergency brake?
@@KendorFarms no the regular brake when you apply it
I just answered my own question but I enjoyed your TH-cam video and thank you for getting back to me I appreciate the quick response
What is a good deal on the cost of breaks?
What is the length of those 5!6 bolts you used to extract the drums out?.
I believe they were about 2 inch
That old rotor would make a great lamp or coat rake base.
Or cash for scrap
What year is the truck? You should put that in the description.
2011, however rear brakes (pads and rotors) haven’t changed in a long time. If you can watch this with confidence to do your own, you’ll do just fine
ohhhh btw... great video. you rock. like a star

Awesome video thanks man
you don't adjust the ebrake pads?
Yep, after they ate installed. If you kno2 enough to adjust them then you should
dont you ever need to adjust them tho
I don’t normally unless they need it
Very helpful, thanks
Good stuff
Awesome video 👍
What brand rotors did you go with
Honestly I can’t remember, I’m thinking power stop
What kind of grease is used for the inside of the pins ?
Its a special caliper pin grease
Sil Glyed brake lube.
Permatex 24125 ceramic extreme brake parts lubricant.
Very informative and great explanation
Thanks
Thanks for the vid.

Not a fan of jack stands at all. I've had one colapse. I crib it with 6x6's, feels safer.
@@KendorFarms Thanks for your reply. Can you please show a vid about how that happened and how to crib it?
A can of brake clean does wonders
You skipped the one part I needed to see. How to get the parking brake shoes on with that yellow spring of doom.
Haha I either put in on first then the shoes on or squeezed the hell out of it with side cutters to bit into it and pulled it over...
Do I have to use the metal clips to hold pads or not?
Not if the old ones are still good
@@KendorFarms they old and rusty I’ve seen some with out metal chips and some without so I wasn’t sure if I had to have them
Yea it's definitely best to have them in there
@@KendorFarms ok I’ll put them on there and was the wet brake fluid called that you put on the pads
The stuff I put on the pads is called disc quiet. It's not necessary, but just stops any possible squeaks later on
Very helpfull boss thanks
That's nice, my rotors don't have threaded bolt holes. Nice move Stallantis? asses.
Im pretty sure your "star wheel" was the wrong way. The star should be towards the front on the passenger side.
Yep, it was
What year is your truck?
That one is a 2011
@@KendorFarms would it be pretty much the same as a 2014?
Yep for sure, maybe slight differences in the size but same method
thank you for the time. parts $270 and i can do it. Local midas: $850.

You installed passenger side adjuster in the wrong direction. It’ll never automatically adjust
Yep, I did. Reversed it after 👍

Lmao each assembly used a different sized bolt in mine, 2 16's, 12's, 9/16 and 13's. Im just like wtf man
Jack's stands
If you need brakes, you NEED new flexible lines. The rubber lines look rough on the outside and they are always worse on the inside. Cheap insurance.
Bollicks. 😵💫
