    HJC updates their modular line with the mighty new RPHA 90. Clean lines and loads of features make for a juggernaut helmet in its class. HJC’s back at it with their advanced P.I.M. Plus shell technology, straight from the race track. Inside, this modular wears a MultiCool moisture wicking interior. One-touch chinbar and face shield releases keep it simple with their smooth action. Additional features include RapidFire III shield replacement system, pinlock face shield (HJ-29), integrated SunShield (HJ-V9), and DOT certification.

    I'd like to see an option to add those cheek pads with the new neck extensions to the other helmets too. Don't know how much quieter this'll be in comparison to a full face. Almost at 500K, congrats!

      @@laurialariesto1293 With that said, they do talk about all the features of the product which is more information than you can usually find out about said product in any given webshop. Take a helmet for instance - the weight, strap type etc. is usually not provided, just highlights and marketing blurb whereas Revzilla are putting in a lot of effort to give us a 'detailed breakdown' of the product. I appreciate it! :)

    I have an HJC bluetooth-ready modular helmet from a few years ago. The padding on the inside top of the helmet has two deep indentations which run from front to back. These leave large creases in my hair which look like I've had a freaky permanent wave done on my hair.

    which one is provided as the most safety modular helmet? I am little comfused,despite the fact that caberg duke is the only modular helmet scored 5 stars only a few reviews about it..I am owner of schuberth c3 and i want to replace it since the lock mechanism after 3 years broke down and also scored only 3 stars.According to my reaserch i am beetween shoei neotec,rpha 90,HJC is-max 2 and CaberG duke 2.Which one is your recommendation?

      The Neotec 2 is still made to a slightly higher quality, but it's also a bit heavier and a good deal more expensive. If you can try on both, I recommend you do so and go with whichever fits you better. -DrewZilla

    I got 1513 grams (3.33LB) on a kitchen scale! It feels light and solid. My issue with it is that at 58cm head size, their large(58-59cm) helmet feels a little too tight.

    Hows this compare to the new Bell SRT Modular helmet? The RPHA 90 is $75 more, composite shell and lighter. But how does the interior, opening mechanism etc compare?

    • @RevZilla
      @RevZilla  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Both have good, solid latches and easy to use opening mechanisms. The interiors are also nice on both. I like the Bell face shield a little better, but the HJC's lighter weight and use of 3 shell sizes instead of 2 are advantages. -DrewZilla

  • @Doticaster
    @Doticaster 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    How have you found the closing clasp on the RPHA90 visor? I've got hjc is17, which cost me £167 which has got the same clasp. But I've got through three visors due the clasp fracturing the plastic, hence the clasp falling out! So my £167lid has turned into a £278 lid as each visor is £37-ish. I've currently got a bit of the trusted gaffer tape covering the hole its left as I'm refusing to buy another visor, it'll be cheaper to buy another lid, lol.

    Anthony, I know you say it is "optically correct " , but I had the Rpha Max and the optics with the interior face shield down was horrible. The helmet just was cheap...creaks and noisy. That latch in the center of the face shield is just terrible if the shield is up a little as it's in your line of sight. Got rid of the HJC and purchased a Schuberth C3 pro and love it.

      This helmet is DOT only. The shell itself might have passed the ECE rating testing but since it only comes with a DOT sticker on it, that is the only thing certification it would legally meet under the eyes of the law. This is one of the nosiest helmets I have ever had with the top vent open. to sit an listen to plastic rattle is not fun. The back open/shut vent does nothing. The lower cut (Shorter) from the RPHA Max makes the chin strap cut into your adam's apple and rides further back under your jaw. I would not recommend this helmet but there is no returns when you buy it. As for the Red color unit it is more orange then red. My wife traded with me to try the new 90 unit and wanted the old RHHA MAX back after just 20 miles out of our 200 mile short ride from MN to WI and back a couple of days ago. April 11, 2019 is my response. I hope HJC is not listening to your slanted review or maybe you got paid by them.

    I wonder whether the SMARTH is the way to go or a generic Cardo. I know it is integrated which is nice but I normally change my helmet every 3 years or so and a SMARTH limits my options at that time. Currently I tend to ride on my own (Billy no mates) so don't actually need rider>rider but knowing my luck, I would buy something without it and then all my mates buy rider>rider. Sound quality for music and radio reception are my priorities though

    • @RevZilla
      @RevZilla  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you do want the SMARTH, I'd just spend the few dollars more on its replacement, the PackTalk Slim. It looks the same but has upgraded internals. In addition to fitting most HJC helmets, it fits a number of other helmets (www.revzilla.com/assets/0002/5993/Detailed_Fitment_Information_3.pdf). Sound quality is the same as the PackTalk Bold, and the less expensive Cardo units have pretty good audio quality as well. I'd recommend getting one with rider to rider ability. -DrewZilla

    At this rate, I wonder if the Neotec 2 replacement will go on a little weightloss program, they dont have SNELL for modular to meet and with the premiums beginning to get lighter (the next Schuberth modular will no doubt be lighter otherwise they're cooked by AGV), they will begin to struggle at some point if they don't..

      @RevZilla  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    For me this helmet when the flip is open, it fits my head comfortably, when I close the flip, It feels as though my head is in a vice, there is enormous pressure on my ears, cant ride more than 20 miles non stop on it. second complaint is the amount of noise, its really loud as though the flip does not seal properly. best thing I can say about it is, I can vape without removing the helmet. and it looks quite attractive. The aerodynamics are really good on it, my head does not bob from side to side, like my old helmet, as I wear it, Im breaking my head in and probably getting use to the lack of comfort. However i cant recommend it. perhaps my head has the wrong profile, round and chubby.

    The visor on this helmet is so bad that I'll never buy another HJC product. It's unfortunate because I like everything else about the RPHA 90. I take really good care of my motorcycling gear and have never scratched a helmet visor while cleaning, and I have never had one badly pitted from everyday use. Now, after a year of ownership, I'm on my second set of visors. The clear outer visor is the worst. I clean using only water and dry lightly with a very soft microfiber cloth, yet both of the clear visors I've owned have turned milky. They also have a lot of pits which can be distracting if the sun hits them just right. The helmet I used before the HJC (Bell) is 6 years old, still gets a bit of use and is as clear as when it was new. It has over 30,000 miles of use. One last thing about it that is below my expectation is that the inner part of the outer visor has no anti-reflectivity coating and frequently in certain light I can see my reflection almost as well as the road.
    I had read other reviews about this being an issue with HJC Helmets, but liked the fit and features of the HJC, so I ignored them. Now I wish I had made another choice.

    The helmets sun visor has extremely poor optics that when I tilt my head forward (Tuck position or blocking the sun), the view through the sun visor becomes blurry and warped.

    • @GoodkatNW
      @GoodkatNW 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It's not thin, nor is it flimsy (esp with pinlock inside). Just received this helmet a couple days ago, and the visor is just as sturdy (or more-so) than my other 4 helmets. As a point of reference, it's slightly thicker than ANSI Z87.1 rated safety glasses.

    • @0YouCanCallMeAl0
      @0YouCanCallMeAl0 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I can totally see it bending while he's handling it. Sorry but I might be spoiled, I own a Shark Speed-R, which has a visor thickness from 2.8mm at sides to 4.5mm at front and that thing gives you some confidence.

    • @GoodkatNW
      @GoodkatNW 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Understandable, but also remember that there are exceedingly few instances of motorcycle visors being the cause of injury. It's designed to block airborne objects, but the helmet frame itself will stop your face from impacting the ground or obstacle. Additionally, a flexible plastic is actually safer than a thicker/rigid plastic that has a higher chance of shattering.

    • @GoodkatNW
      @GoodkatNW 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Here's an interesting article about visors. Note that it specifically recommends "flimsy" and bendable visors over stiff ones, as they are designed to break off the helmet and flex, as opposed to shatter. www.helmets.org/visors.htm

    • @0YouCanCallMeAl0
      @0YouCanCallMeAl0 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Joel Dazey Whether a material shatters, or not is its physical property and does not change with thickness and surely not in these small ranges of thickness. The visor also has a large role in blocking wind noise, so thickness helps here.
