    In taking the podium from its older brother, the new RPHA 11 Pro Helmet is the title holder for the most premium offering in HJC’s lineup. Refined in the way that it cuts through the air, as well as the way that air itself moves throughout the interior, the RPHA 11 is a lid that is best utilized by aggressive street riders and go-fast track day enthusiasts. In addition to the improvements in aerodynamics and ventilation, the RPHA 11 Pro also features wider eyeports for better peripheral vision, a plush MultiCool interior liner, and both Clear and Smoke tinted Pinlock-ready shields in the box.

    I got in a pretty bad crash in this helmet. I did black out, but I think it was porosity from the pain of a shattered elbow and breaking all of my ribs. I had no head or neck trauma. Granted, I didn't collide with anything, but after crashing in this helmet I will still recommend it. It served me well as a daily rider for three years

    All these people complaining about wind noise need to start wearing ear plugs. Lol. I've worn most of shoeis, scorpions, Hjc etc. and they all get loud once u get moving. If you find that there's a helmet out there that's quiet at highway speeds, starts wearing ear plugs now. You are probably already partially deaf n that's why you think it's quiet lol.

Around 2 and a half years ago I got the Rpha 10 pro and enjoyed it beyond my expectations again. time for a new helmet and boy did I keep with a great company. i have dread locks and a 2xl is quite large im extatic that it fits small. And thank you Hjc for the eye glass inserts. i wear glasses

    The sizing for me was spot on. I measured my head according to their chart and the medium fit perfectly, very tight in the beginning (not that it hurts) and now it’s loosened up perfectly. If I got a size bigger I would have had to send it back.

    I'm watching this even though I own one (white camo sands). Used it on both my MT(FZ)07 and Monster 600. It is a great helmet! Great ventilation, comfy, feels great, looks great and you can wear it for hours without any problems. On of the most stable helmets I've used on my naked bikes. I ruined the eps lining on mine by hanging it on my mirror so going to buy another Rpha11 soon.

    At the end of the day I pick my helmets foremost on fit and comfort. Most size larges are too big for me and size mediums too small. The Large RPHA 11 being 58-59cm makes it the most perfect fit I have found. It's so light as well compared to my old Bell RS1 it's like wearing nothing.

  • @uselessmitten7836
    @uselessmitten7836 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I've found that his second gripe is functionally moot. The city-cant *is* a little weak, but I actually like that. at about 45 mph, the airflow will push it closed - right about the speed that you would want to drop it down anyway.

  • @nabiji
    @nabiji 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    I've bought one for my next trackday. I took it over the massive price of the Shoei X Spirit 3, the Shark Race R Pro, and the X-Lite 802RR based on this review. The fit is almost identical to the NXR which is slightly bigger in the sides - but not noticeably though. This helmet is to be worn as a race fit helmet. I have a 60cm head which is normally a Large Fit, the advertised fit of 58 - 59cm is probably accurate, but I found the fit snug enough that once the inner liner gives a bit - will fit me as intended. So I'd stick with the typical sizing. I'm an intermediate oval and typically fit Shoei's, Sharks, and Kabuto Helmets.
    The true test will be wind buffetting. The rear spoiler seems to be glued on with adhesive of some sort, and doesn't seem as stable as the rear spoiler on the X Spirit 3. So we'll see how durable it is at above 250km/h (150mph roughly) speed that I get on the main straight. My only other gripe so far is the lack of graphics. HJC should maybe consider partnership with a graphics artist - and expand out of the marvel line. I appreciate budgets are limited but it seems like all the money went to the Marvel Helmets (juvenile - and an novelty) over the standard helmets. The end results are that the graphics are a bit boring. So instead of paying extra I went with a Matt Black helmet (boring).
    I look forward to testing it out at my next trackday in March.

    Just bought mine days ago, By far one of the best helmets i have ever owned, It's very lightweight that i think im not even wearing a helmet, Airflow is just great, Noise is dampened pretty good (even with my zx10r loud shorty pipe) and most of all the freebies that come with the helmet, Tinted visor, Pinlock and even got a bonus free HJC shirt. Even for my glasses the helmet makes a good fit. Highly recommendable! Thanks Revzilla

    Love my RPHA 11, great airflow, not disturbing road sound but one thing I do not like... it lack built in sun visor. Riding in Sweden a autumn day, sun visor works well but in the evening when it gets dark outside, I do not want to stop and switch to clear Visor... I rather have a clear visor and then be able to fold down built in sun visor/glasses like in RPHA 70.

    I have both versions. The 10 in the Ben Spies theme and that exact black and red striped 11. The 11 is much more noisier. I prefer the 10 on colder days because it doesn't flow as much air. The 11 has amazing air flow. It's also the helmet I use while drag bike racing. It does have a noticeable difference in top view tuck visibility clearance. The neck roll on the 10 started peeling off the foam. My only complaint is it's not replaceable.

    I got the matte black rpha 11 pro. So far, the only thing I don't like is the metal grill (chin vent) on one side is not seated property. It is misaligned. Other than that, the helmet seems to be exactly what I needed.the helmet fits small and that's what I need!
    I have a Shoei RF 1200 in XS and it fits snug. Problems with it for me are it buffets a lot at high speed.it also let's in air just forward of my ears from the cheek pads. I'm hoping the RPHA 11 Pro will address the two things I don't like about the Shoei RF 1200. The RPHA is more of a race helmet than the Shoei. The Shoei is a great street helmet.
    Can't wait for warm weather so I can really put this helmet through its paces.

    Dear RevZilla, when you said that Jorge Lorenzo should consider changing helmet brand "cause 11 is awesome' - you should know that Jorge was riding at the end of his cooperation with HJC in RPHA 11 :) And he decided to leave even with it. You should also see in 2016 season that few riders from Moto2 and Moto3 still had problems with mist in RPHA 11 during wet race. Mainly you should consider that DOT version of HJC RPHA Helmets can't be really compared to ones in Europe that are much more flexible and lighter than your version. However I had RPHA10+ myself and coudn't tell much good about it. It wasn't bad... but my Shark Race-R Pro is way better :) + Europe ECE Version of RPHA11 weights 1300g against DOT 1460g... That's quite different helmet.

    Easily the most positive review I've seen from Revzilla on the RPHA series helmet which says a lot. As a current RPHA-10 wearer, and current shopper of a new helmet, how would you stack up the 11 vs. the Scorpion Exo-R2000 and new Star helmet from Bell? And compared to a premium helmet like an Arai defiant?

    • @RevZilla
      @RevZilla  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      HJC definitely stepped their game up with the RPHA 11 helmet. Given that you fit the RPHA 10 well now, the RPHA 11 and EXO-R2000 should work better with your head shape as we find the Bell Star to fit slightly narrower. Considering features, the RPHA 11 offers a higher level of ventilation and a lighter weight than the other models you mention. That said, the RPHA 11 and EXO-R2000 are designed for a tucked riding position, while the Star and Defiant will be more versatile for street use. Comparing the quality of the first three to the Defiant, it’s still hard to match Arai as they are handmade in Japan. But, these premium models from HJC, Scorpion, and Bell definitely offer a high level of fit-and-finish. I wear an EXO-R2000 myself! -TeamZilla

    It is an amazing helmet but I'd like to see a photochromic visor on it. Manually changing visors, no matter how easy, seems rather primal (never mind having to actually carry two visors) . Not every day is "track day bro", and it simply does not have the "easy" factor most street helmets have.

    Hello Revzilla. Thanks for the great video. One question: Can the RPHA 11 PRO be ridden in an upward to 3/4 position? I know it'll shine at a full tuck, but I have a Hatley and a naked street bike, so I'm looking for something that can do both. I was in between this and the RF-1200, but not only I think HJC looks better but it is also cheaper. Thanks!

    So no one addresses the issue with the cheek pads in this helmet not staying properly snapped in. The design is pretty good, but I am leery of going down with this helmet on my head. Also, the helmet runs pretty true to size for me. I'm it sure how people would wear it in upright position because the helmet feels like it is trying to pull itself off your head when raising up to get a little air.

    Hi Anthony. Awesome review as always. You did leave one question unanswered for me. You mentioned this helmet was ideal for a tucked down or 3/4 position and that people would be missing out if ridden in an upright position. I usually ride 3/4 or upright. My previous helmet was an XR-1100. I just love everything about the XR-1200 but don’t want to and probably won’t end up spending that much. If I leave Shoei for another one, which HJC should I get? Or which other safe, premium, light, well-vented helmet should I get? Thanks!

      @RevZilla  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This helmet still works reasonably well in a fully upright riding position, but you might also consider the RPHA 70 ST for upright riding, though the RPHA 70 ST doesn't have quite as much ventilation. -DrewZilla

    Question: (1) I was looking to upgrade to the Icon Airframe. I ride a Fischer MRX (full tuck super-sport) and a VStrom DL 650. The main knock against my current helmet (Icon Airmada) is that I have terrible visibility in the full-tuck. Scarily so...which makes going downhill around the twisties is basically impossible.
    So I thought I was going Airframe, since I've had good experience w/ Icon. However, between the Icon AirFrame and this HJC RPHA 11 ... what gets the nod for my two applications?
    (My wife gave the Airmada for a 3 foot drop on tile, so I'm a little anxious to continue it's use. Not crazy to buy two helmets thought...)

    Does the RPHA11 and the PRO have same safety ratings? I tried on the helmet and loved it felt light and amazing and I’m basically sold on it it’s just till I discovered the SHARP safety rating and notice two bad spots on the sides with one having the lowest safety rating and I’m just wondering if there’s any difference as far as safety rating

    • @RevZilla
      @RevZilla  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      They do not. The PRO is the version sold here in the US, so in addition to the ECE rating, it has the US DOT rating. Additionally, since the American "PRO" version is not sold in the UK, it's not tested by SHARP. Only the European version is tested by SHARP, so we can't say anything conclusive about how the PRO version might do on that test. -DrewZilla

    After having now had both the Bell Race Star and the Shoie X-14 in my hands and on my head, I'm unfortunately still in the market for a helmet! The Bell loses out because it doesn't allow my glasses to sit on my face where I need them...that's a deal breaker. The X-14 loses out because it feels so much heavier than the Bell, it doesn't come in a color that matches my bike or my leathers, and mostly because it's - believe it or not - uninspiring and a bit boring in real life to look at / hold / wear...just a bit sterile for my taste.
    So, DrewZilla, thanks first for answering my posts on those other helmet reviews. Now, I'm here with more questions!
    Questions about the RPHA 11:
    Compared to the X-14, how much lighter is the RPHA 11?
    Are the speaker cutouts bigger on the X-14 or the RPHA 11?
    With speakers installed, which helmet is noisier?
    Which helmet has the "taller" field of view? Again, I ride an 01 CBR1100XX and I'm fairly tall, so I'm tucked most of the time.
    And lastly: when will this helmet be available (not for pre-order...I pre-ordered two Skullys and we all know how that turned out!)?
    Thanks for the great review, and looking forward to your responses!

    • @RevZilla
      @RevZilla  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The X-14 is 3.62 lbs., while the RPHA 11 is 3.125 lbs, a difference of almost half a pound. The speaker cutouts are a bit larger on the RPHA 11, and though we haven't tested noise with speakers installed in the RPHA 11, we did find that the RPHA 11 was pretty loud. In comparison, find the X-14 to be quieter. With field of view, they're pretty much the same, though remember that the X-14's head liner can be adjusted to rotate the eyeport upward more. The X-14 may be sterile, but it's well thought out. As for availability, the RPHA 11 Pro will be available early-October. HJC is a reputable manufacturer, whereas Skully was...well...you know. -DrewZilla

    • @wilddoktor
      @wilddoktor 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks a ton for the reply!
      Wow...almost a half a pound difference. That's *huge*!
      You answered all my questions, but I'd like to drill down into the Field of View one more level if you have the time? Is the HJC comparable to the X14 when the X14's interior is in "normal" or "4 degrees back" mode? I did move the interior of the X14 and the difference is surprising...almost amazing. That's the config I'd ride in and would compare another helmet to. (I find the Race Star trumps the X14...barely...even with the X14 in the "back" mode.)
      It's hard to get a bead on how loud "loud" is. Your page for the RF-1200 set's the "noise level" slider very close to "loud", and the HJC page is set very close to "quiet". The X14 slider is set closer to "loud" then this HJC. So those are the "numbers" I was looking at. All I know is a) I always wear earplugs, and b) I'm currently wearing a $69 Bilt helmet and it literally sounds like a hurricane inside, so anything I get should be an upgrade. :-)
      Skully...yeah...boy do I know. So does my checking account. :-(
      (BTW, just so you know, I love the opening "head check"...I always try to pause the video while you're in the middle of that head check because it makes it look like you're in the middle of a sneeze. :-) Yep...I'm easily entertained!)

      It will break in around 15-20% as the cheek pads start to relax with regular use. If the XL isn't causing you any pain and just very tight, that is typically the sign of a great fitting helmet right out of the box.

Went back to an L and it's snug, but holds. So this was, for me, True to Size to even a little big.

    • @RevZilla

      It's not Snell, because HJC decided to make it more applicable to the world market by making it DOT- and ECE-rated. Compared to the RF-1200, the RPHA 11 Pro has better ventilation but is also louder. The EXO-R2000 is somewhere between the Shoei and the HJC for ventilation and noise. If you want the quiet option, go with the RF-1200. -DrewZilla

    I have very mixed feelings about rpha 11 that i bought :/
    The most gripe that i have is that "nice and easy to use lock" which is totally bollocks. You have to use considerable force to close the lid properly or try to fiddle with the lip that most of the time you have no idea if it locked or not. None of which is convenient. Opening your lid is another topic. The lip that actually locks the whole thing is kinda flimsy and if you use too much force you can brake it. Also if you try to open your lid by pushing through the middle you may even crack the shield where the lip is.
    Another thing worth to mention about rpha 11 is that after 6 months of riding with it, the helmet started to chip at the surface in some place. Nothing big like 0,2 - 0,8 cm wide. Really strange. I would not be confused about it if the chips only happen at the front (usually comes from cars in front and shit that just flies in your head) but these chips are in the back and sides too.
    Did not have an opportunity to try the vents as the weather is shit and cold here in uk atm. Other then that seems good helmet. The hands free unit was easy to attach same with routing cables for speakers.

      This helmet is designed for the full tuck riding position of a sport bike, and it's also a pretty loud helmet. For vlogging on a Harley, I would not recommend this helmet. Instead, I recommend the Shoei RF-1200 and GT-Air. For GoPro mounting, use a standard side mount but mounted on the chin bar, slightly offset from center. If you watch any of our bike reviews, you'll see this is how we mount cameras on chin bars. -DrewZilla
