Those stickers you removed are not for waterproofing like you said, the holes there were made to mount the parts easier on to the phones chassis. Kind of like hanging a price of metal and painting the whole thing without actually touching it and leaving a trace of where it's been touched. The holes make assembly easier for Samsung and the stickers are just there to make it look a little bit nicer but still removable if need be

6:00 those black circular spots at the sides. And at the part where the phone bends. So when the phone bends multiple times, it can create air inside, so to remove air getting into the screen or in some unnecessary parts. That sticker might help.

It's interesting to see exactly how the hinge on my flip 4 failed. From this teardown I can see exactly what happened. The little channel "gears" on the right side of the phone (when the screen is facing you) got knocked out of alignment, and the bottom one, whish is where the failure snapped it off, began to slide forward, going through the graphite tape just enough to puncture the back of the flexible screen directly on top of where it is supposed to be laying down, destroying the pixels there and creating an open circuit for the entire line of pixels in a cross guard section leading away from the initial damage.
Before I did some minor surgery to wiggle the gear back away from the screen, I could both feel and see something jutting out of the screen and causing it to bulge, though I wasn't sure exactly what it was, besides probably part of the hinge. Now I know the exact shape by connecting the dots between what it felt like and what it looks like.

    • @raphtorres

Same thing happened on my Flip4, the hinge failed causing it to snag when opening and closing, you could always hear a clicking sound, consequently after that the screen around the hinge area turned black and then completely off. Phone works still as it shows on the small front screen but not main screen.
Guarantee on these phones is really hit and miss with Samsung as they look for any small scratch or mark on phone to attribute it to the cause. Buyer beware! I'm still in contract for another 9 months paying for a dead phone.

Interesting that it still seems to have the same issue closing after reassembly. I can only guess that it's something to do with the new hinge, which certainly makes the longevity of the latest devices rather dubious.

William Wallace, In case you wondered,
"Unwilling to compromise, Wallace refused to submit to English rule, and Edward’s men pursued him until August 5, 1305, when they captured and arrested him near Glasgow. He was taken to London and condemned as a traitor to the king and was hanged, disemboweled, beheaded and quartered. He was seen by the Scots as a martyr and as a symbol of the struggle for independence, and his efforts continued after his death."

Nice video, Wish you could do a little more disassembly showing in detail the hinge assembly.
I just had the hinge on my 2 month old Samsung Galaxy Z flip 4 break causing the phone to only open about 45 degrees. apparently this new hinge, is super fragile and from mining the web Ive come across quite a few others experiencing the same issue.
And since you have flip 3 and a flip 4 maybe compare the two. I see recall or class action in Samsungs future, kinda like the battery fiasco on the "Note" Thanks

Not sure about why the holes are they at all (one other commenter said it aids construction), so I'd assume the stickers are there to protect the interior from debris sneaking in through the hinge.
