This looks like a beautiful winter forest scene. As a quilter, I'd want this on muslin yardage for quilting projects. Very nice!
That's how I do a Ron star fold. I never really knew if I was doing it right. Tie dye Ron is how I learned, when there were very few instructional videos on tie dyeing. Bless you Tie Dye Ron, wherever you are. I like the attribution tradition of tie dyeing.
I don't care what it's called. I L❤VE IT! 😍
As just an FYI...a Ronstar is an airplane fold type of Mandala where you take the airplane folds and you go back and forth at 90 degrees each time wrapping sinew in the same direction. You could call this a variation of a ronstar. I've made a couple but they can really be tedious unless you are using a BIG piece of fabric. Both of my hands were sore after doing them. It's a lot of work and a lot of wrestling with the fabric and a lot of pulling sinew.
Yeah, I agree. That fold over has to have a name of some sort. “Umm, do what I just did” isn’t going to cut it forever. 😉❤️🌈
i literally thought to myself while folding one the other day that it felt ron star-ish!
I think we came up with that name because it looks like a “chevron” pattern. “Steph-ron” instead of chevron. I think Ron’s work requires more folding back and forth. I have made a Ron star so I’m not exactly sure. ❤️🌈
Gorgeous. The offset with the dye created a nice tropical ocean feel to it. ✌🏻
Thanks. Yes it does! ❤️🌈
It's absolutely beautiful Steph - I also thought it was a Ronstar fold - the resulting pattern looks like chevron fish scales - - INCREDIBLE!!! I love it!!!
Thanks Scottie! Well, whatever it is, I’ll take it. 😂❤️🌈
Love the chevrons!!
Is it rude to say that all your hard work was worth it? Your creativity never ceases to amaze me. I am getting nature vibes from this shirt, all trees, mountains and blue skies...very Oregonian!
Not rude at all. 😊 Next time I make one it should go smoother. I normally don’t like the greens but I think this color combo is beautiful. It really is like Oregon right now. Rain and green growth. Lots of it! 😁❤️🌈
Hi Steph
So, yes! I’ve heard it called a Ron-star-twist, perhaps because it is the way Ron did stars (except they had tapered radial pleats).
I would have called it a twisted pleat.
I love the repetitive randomness of this design - also used in a radial fashion on Courtenay’s famous Greek Theatre backdrop tapestries, I believe. I would tend to give him credit in the naming . . . Courtenay’s twisted pleats maybe - but Steph Ron works!
I don’t know what to call this other than amazing. The colors combined so nicely. Blue is my favorite color and the green really is the highlight of this one. 🌀💗🌀
I love everything about this! I love the pattern, the colors, the white lines, everything!! Truly gorgeous!! 💚💙💚💙💚💙
Mr Tie Dye has a good video on the ronstar including its history.
I watched it a couple years ago. I remember him folding back and forth I thought. I’ll have to watch it again. ❤️🌈
Just gorgeous!
Excellent tutorial. Thanks for sharing Steph.
So gorgeous.
Beautiful. It looks printed, perfect.
Love this one!
I love this!!!!
So cool!!
Beautiful!
Wow this looks really cool
Love this.
Trying this pattern today!
Awesome! 😁❤️🌈
That’s gorgeous Steph! I love the colors together.
wow. those colors are droolable. nice job Steph!
Love this shirt!
Oh, wow, Steph. That shirt is gorgeous. I wouldn't know what to call it except it's beautiful. Thanks for sharing.
Of course my favorite colors...
& very wavy!
Ocean vibes for sure Steph! My favorite for sure!!!
I beyond love it!!!
It’s my favorite thing ever. 💙
I love it. The pattern and color. If I try it, I think I would go vertical pattern instead of horizontal. This is great and reminds me of a rock bottom swimming pool my uncle made.
I’m glad you like it Pricilla! Vertical will also look great. There is no right or wrong way in tie dye! I’d love to see your results. ❤️🌈
Cool design and great colors!
Thanks Andrea!! 💗❤️🌈
I like this shirt a lot. The colors are nice.
Love this! Love the colors and splits. 🤓
Thanks so much! 😊❤️🌈
Love it!
So glad! ❤️🌈
Love learning a new fold..you picked perfect colors...thanks for sharing
Hi Zalia!! You are so welcome! 🧞♂️❤️🌈
This is pretty awesome Steph. Flipping it over and rearranging the colors really paid off.
thank you! this was just the tutorial I was looking for! I had a hard time finding it because I dont know what's it's called either.
Great job I just got into tie dye and your tutorials have made me look like an ARTISTE In front of my 6yr old daughter! Thanks!!
Soda ash eats mental over time 💜
Good to know. Thank you. ❤️🌈
Ronstar I think only applies to airplane fold, you do a sinew line then fold it 90 degrees and sinew again. This could be called Ronstar-esque maybe.
Yeah, I’m trying to think of what the back and forth fold is called. ❤️🌈
Love the design and colors!
I think this is my new favorite shirt! So gorgeous!!! 💙
Yay! Thank you! 😁❤️🌈
Nice shirt.
Beautiful shirt! And as always, thanks for the great tutorial video! I learn so much from you!
Thanks Fran! I’m so glad to help. ☺️❤️🌈
I really love this! Stephron 🥰
That jade is so pretty
pure tetessellation fascintating method i am crazy about it Steph
Thank you Cathy! ❤️🌈
I think it turned out great. Very interesting fold. Haven't seen one like that so far.
Very nice
Love the colors the offset really helped and I agree with Scott P it should be called to Stephron fold❤️😁✌️
The shirt is beautiful! This is a technic I will have to really practice with. I like it veryuch
I love how the bottom looks like bat ears. Kind of like half of the Batman chest logo.
Yo! That’s dope AF! ✌🏾
I don't know about ronstar but you are using a classic shibori folding technique. It starts with an accordion fold and then a flag fold. The difference is in how you bind it. I learned to bind it like this with sinew. But you can also clamp pieces of wood on it - anything that will give it a resist. White space. Also, shibori is traditionally dyed in one color - indigo but you dont have to. I learned to do it more than 25 years ago.
My favorite shibori fold is Arashi and i like to leave the pleats.
I found the ronstar and he calls it "RonStar with a Twist. So it's loosely based on Itajime Shibori. But his folds are sort of extended. With the Itajime you end up with a 'cube' of folded material. So I think saying the fold technique you used is 'RonStar With a Twist' you are giving him adequate credit. Peace out.
Gorgeous! And definitely, rinsing is the most tedious part.
Ooo, love the shirt! Colors and fold came out amazing.
Thanks so much! I think you’ve been binge watching Patti! 😉 Thanks for the views. I appreciate it. ❤️🌈
@@BelladonnaDyesCo Caught me, TOTALLY bingeing. 🤣 It IS your fault, posting such great things to watch!!! Keep up the great work, or my life's going back to boring!!! 🥰
Really nice design Steph , the green looks like lots of trees in a forest 🌲
Thank you!! It does! 😁❤️🌈
Nice! All that folding and wrapping better have paid off, right? LoL I'm loving the bluish and greens.
Yes! Thank you! 💙❤️🌈
A tessellation is a mosaic pattern, how to create a repeating geometric pattern over a fixed surface, aka fun with math. Nice shirt btw.
Yes! I agree. We see it a lot in beautiful tile work. In the Facebook group they call the overall shirt a “Tessellation” That back and forth folding also has a technical name. I sound like a fool going uhh umm err… Thank you, I’m glad you like it. 😁❤️🌈
@@BelladonnaDyesCo you don't sound foolish. Your banter is charming, and a lot of the reason you're so popular. It's so much fun watching you having and addressing the same issues as I have and had. You have been helpful. Love your dharma single colors. Helping the entire community with those.
Really liking this fold Steph, thanks! Might have to try this one today :) Love the strainer idea. Sadly I just cannot stomach Facebook anymore :(
Do it!! My group is safe. It’s pretty much the only place I go on Facebook. Something to consider. ❤️🌈
Call it a Stephron fold!
🤭 I actually kinda like that!! 😜❤️🌈
@@BelladonnaDyesCo Then it's settled! It's a Stephron fold!
Watching this made me wonder - have you ever done a muck dye under an ice dye? I'm not sure if it would actually work but it sounds like it could be neat
Not on one of these. I’m sure it would look great! ❤️🌈
Love this shirt. I've been dyeing with a friend for years and am now gathering my own supplies. Do you keep all your dyeing supplies separate from kitchen supplies? I will be using dharma Procyon dyes. Thanks for posting your art.
I keep all my dye supplies in my dye room. ❤️🌈
I wonder how this would roll with wet dye.
I’ll have to try that some day. It wouldn’t have the pretty nuances of the ice dye. ❤️🌈
Would u get the same color variant using hot water irrigation? It's a beautiful shirt I'm gonna try it with hot water irrigation and see what happens lol ❤
HWI does different things. I think you can make something really pretty. It will look somewhere in between ice dyeing and liquid dyeing. ❤️🌈
@BelladonnaDyesCo thank you! I've been really pleased with the HWI so far but I love what u get with ice dying too and the sloped ice dying is amazing
How do you keep your Is hands colored free.....lol
When you're rinse out the color
Normally I wear gloves. Sometimes I forget. ❤️🌈
What type of string do you use?
It’s sinew. The link is in the description box. ♥️🌈
Zigzag
I love yours and other tie dye channels, but I seriously cringe every time I hear people recommend Amazon. Shirt quality is a big factor. I have been enjoying Bayside shirts for a while. My other go to shirts are Hanes. For summer designs I look for a tshirt that is less than 5oz fabric. I got some Gildan hoodies for the price but have not dyed them yet. Hanes ultimate hoodies are the ones I normally use. 4x-6x hoodies are hard to find in all cotton for less than $30. Ramble ramble ramble...
I would never buy shirts from Amazon. All my other tie dye gadgets come from there though. The links help us pay for our channel’s that’s why you hear us mention Amazon. Just simply clicking a link without buying anything gives a few cents. Sadly, nothing comes for free. I have to pay for all this somehow. I don’t like Hanes shirts at all. I find them to be way too small. I prefer Gildan & Port & Company. They are the best for me. I personally like to wear George from Walmart. They are the softest. For hoodies I use 100% cotton Port & Company. ❤️🌈
@@BelladonnaDyesCothanks for a reply. I've never really thought about sizing. I will have to do a comparison. I do know that my Gildan long sleeves all sold very quickly and I plan on getting more this fall. I haven't tried port and company, but the reviews seem very positive. When I need more short sleeves, I am going to try Gildan's new softer shirts; I think they are the 600 series but I'll have to check again. I like Dancing Robin shirts too, but I've never seen them on sale. I've only been doing tie dyes since last September so I am growing my preferences and appreciate your input.
