    @2:19 the reason Mexico is not legally forced to defend the USA is because historically Mexico has maintained a neutral stance regarding international conflict. The whole theory of its foreign relations is called the Estrada Doctrine. The only time Mexico has entered in international conflict in the modern era was in WW2 after 2 mexican ships where sunk by German U-Boats.
    Mexico has also been pioneer in having LATAM as a Nuclear Free Zone (even when it has had the capacity to manufacture Nuclear Weapons in the last 50 years) (if wanted to know more, look up the Treaty of Tlatelolco).

    9:10 we do have protection around prisons in Finland.
    Our low numbers mostly come from the society itself as police is seen as friend and people generally are more passive, law abiding and generally people dont support any radical groups causing havoc in name of "protests". We also have awfully short sentences which is huge complaint here.

    • @Mimi.1001
      @Mimi.1001 3 ปีที่แล้ว +29

      I'm not Finnish, but I believe like in many other European countries the focus of the sentence is more on the rehabilitation of the prisoner into society than his/her punishment like in the US for example.

    • @xenotypos
      @xenotypos 3 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Well, Finish society can still work despite those short sentences because your citizens are law abiding to begin with. The problem in a case like that, is when the population starts changing, if it happens you can't continue to work like this. Multicultural countries have often more criminality, like in France we have actually a pretty high criminality (especially thefts, 1st in europe) but relatively low sentences which is a problem. It's crucial when this happens that society accepts harsher sentences are needed, because otherwise impunity creates even more criminals.
      I think a society should only have short sentences when they can "afford" it, and by that I mean when criminality is very low to begin with. If USA did that, it would be chaos.

    • @Luredreier
      @Luredreier 3 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      It's not the population, it's the laws.
      Just look at Norway before and after the 80s...
      Thinking that we as *people* are somehow way more law abiding is missing the point.
      It's more a case of our society targetting the root causes of crime rather then just punishing people after the fact.
      A wellfare system that ensures that people don't turn to crime out of desperation, free mental health treatment and a focus on rehabilitation help reduce the crimes committed for mental reasons, and help people becomming a functioning part of society again...

    • @jarskil8862
      @jarskil8862 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@Luredreier But sametime I feel that the rehabiliation system is extremely unfar towards victims of a crime.
      If group of teens drug and torture a person to death and then receive barely any prison time, someone will take the law in their own hands, if such monsters show their face in public.

    • @Luredreier
      @Luredreier 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@jarskil8862 You're assuming that anyone would feel the *need* to "take the law into their own hands".
      That, is cultural and based in part on what axioms people grow up with.
      We don't grow up with the assumtion that *people* are evil even if their actions might be.
      If you belive that the world is deterministic then their actions may be explained with their past experiences (upbringing etc) and genes.
      Neither of those are under the control of the perpetrators.
      And if you're religious then who are we to judge *Gods* creations?
      Every single human including every single mass murderer is still the children of God and not our responsibility to "punish".
      We're cnot supposed to throw the first stone and we're meant to turn the other cheek.
      Either way our duty is to be the best humans we can towards our fellow man working towards reducing suffering.
      If someone tortured and killed me my family would not get me back by my assailants being punished.
      But by understanding them and working towards preventing future victims perhaps others won't have to suffer like my family would.
      I don't know how much of this is actually a part of the nordic model, as I haven't studied it as such, but here's some of my thoughts on the issue:
      That could entail destigmatizing and legalizing consensual expressions of that sadism if that was the cause.
      Or if it was anger then improve school childrens communication abilities with regard to expresiing their feelings instead of bottling them up and to keep a close eye on their behavior so behavioral issues may be caught early and therapy can be offered, giving them the tools to handle and redirect their anger in healthier ways.
      Or it could be a subculture formed due to youth crime for instance, say drug gangs.
      Give young people other activities then crimes and other healthier coomunities to interact with.
      Decriminalize possession of drugs, offer free treatment instead of punishment reducing the market and make the drugs available through legal channels.
      Take youths out of problematic enviroments and focus on helping them form healthier enviroments.
      Also ensure that there's no poverty where they feel that they have to provide for relatives who need medication for instance or health care and where the needs of the youths and those they care about are taken care off.
      Make sure that people feel included in society instead of alienated.
      After all, why would someone respect the laws of a society where they are *not* respected for whatever reason?
      Importantly make sure that there's *someone* there to listen to whoever is having issues so they don't end up making bad choices down the road.
      There's probably other possible causes, but basically any possible cause for a crime has some way or other to counter it or at least reduce its likelyhood of becomming a problem.

    04:00 Studies have actually consistently shown that starting school this early decreases the amount of knowledge retention during class by a huge amount. In these studies 9 - 10 AM have been shown to result in much better peformance stats.
    Unfortunately it's the age-old story of our societies arbitrarily deciding that starting as early as possible is somehow a good thing, despite science indicating the exact opposite.
