How do you turn on accessibility keyboard without logging in? The video is about how to login in when the keyboard doesn't work. So the method shown here is totally useless. Is the Mac not able to show keyboard at the login screen?
Right, you have to set this up beforehand. If you are stuck in a situation where your keyboard isn't working unexpectedly, then what you do depends on the situation. Is it just that your wireless keyboard's battery is dead? Plug it into your Mac then and you can use it as a wired keyboard while it charges.

What do you do if after plugging i wireless keyboard tomy IMAC the keyboard still doesn't work? Also which receptacle does it get plugged into? One is usb the 2 others.
The whole point is not being able to log into the imac when my older Magic Keyboard (Without USB Charging) suddenly unpaird from the mac. Now how do I pair it again via the lock screen?
I think you put the keyboard into pairing mode and it should ask if you want to use it. If that doesn't work call Apple Support and they should walk you through it.

I use it as a desktop and turn on my power strip, hear my MacBook start and the login shows up but it will not connect to my Logitech bluetooth keyboard to allow me to type the password? Hi Gary. Quick question for you. On my I Phone 8, how do you delete You Tube videos that are on your phone? Example, beside my You Tube Icon is the number 4,132. I assume they are videos. I feel they is just taking up valuable space on my phone.
TH-cam videos aren't stored on your iPhone. They stream from TH-cam when you watch them. I think you are looking at the "badge" notification number. That tells you how many notifications you have in an app. If you want to see how much space an app is using, go to Settings, General, iPhone Storage, find the app in the list, tap it, and it shows you the App Size and the Documents & Data (storage) it is using. Any you see for TH-cam would just be cached data that will clear itself out.
Thank you so much, my new IMac keyboard is not working and I didn’t even think about finding my adapter and plugging it into monitor. Then I have to figure why the blue tooth isn’t working.
Hard to advise without knowing what was done. None of the keys work at all? Try switching it off and on. Check bluetooth settings to make sure it is still connected.
Issue I have is a user spilt fluid. Keyboard and mouse don't work, so I used an external keyboard and mouse last week to retrieve data - worked fine. Today I wanted to grab another file from the Mac, but now it just sits at the log on screen with Unlock to Use Accessories, obviously I can't get into the Mac as I am using external mouse/keyboard. It worked last week! I can't unlock as now the Mac has decided I need to unlock the accessories - thanks Apple!
Not sure why your keyboard isn't working when plugged directly into your Mac. Is the switch on? If it is an Apple keyboard I'd call Apple Support and work with them directly on this.
Well I am grateful that I know how to turn that accessibility keyboard on. You would think it would be a default. I mean that's the reason we need it in the first place. @@macmost i already changed the settings ++ i tried logging out and the keyboard did automatically appeared on the lock screen but i’m having second thoughts if it would also automatically open when i shut down/restart my mac rather than just logging it out
old imac with none of these options available... no buttons to click on login screen, i keep holding down power button on bluetooth keyboard, it still doesnt connect :/
You are amazing, Gary!
Accessibility keyboard isn't there. How do I find it?
We had lightening strike modem/router and it fried. Have new one, but the all in one Mac desk top computer (2011) has a frozen cursor. I can't log in. I Have a wireless keyboard and mouse and it's not automatically recognizing new wifi--router/modem. I've tried a wired mouse and keyboard, but it still won't move cursor so I can log in. I don't think the computer was damaged as it starts up, I think the wireless/Bluetooth mouse and keyboard are not connecting to new WiFi. So I can't get to menus at all. Mysteriously the printer came back to life and recognized new WiFi.
Any suggestions? Thank you.
You said a wired keyboard didn't work either? Could be a serious problem then. Take it to the Genius Bar and have them look at it.
Hey thanks for the great content. I am looking for a solution for not being able to type my password into my MacBook Pro when in clamshell mode. I use it as a desktop and turn on my power strip, hear my MacBook start and the login shows up but it will not connect to my Logitech bluetooth keyboard to allow me to type the password? Any help is very much appreciated.
Sounds like an issue with the Logitech keyboard not connecting at that point. I'd contact their support about it.
@@macmost Thanks Gary. Your info helped me to clean up a lot of hogging apps. I appreciate you and how quickly you respond. Love all of your videos.
Thank you so much, my new IMac keyboard is not working and I didn’t even think about finding my adapter and plugging it into monitor. Then I have to figure why the blue tooth isn’t working.
Maybe Apple also has to add the Bluetooth menu to the login screen to be able to connect the keyboard.
Do you have a quick keystroke that could help my keyboard start working? My daughter pressed a bunch of buttons and now it doesnt work 😫
Hard to advise without knowing what was done. None of the keys work at all? Try switching it off and on. Check bluetooth settings to make sure it is still connected.
Omg bro thank you very much, I thought I was gonna get in trouble for not being able to log into my Mac
Awesome video in time. Thanks
At 2:33 how come you can go to system preferences??
I'm showing you a technique there that would require you setting things up in advance when you ARE logged in.
Thanks for the info! I can help someone else if they accidentally turned off the Bluetooth like I did. Haha
Thanks a lot, I just connected keyboard with iMac and it did work
You. Just. Saved. My. Life.
With the charging cable for bluetooth keyboard
Issue I have is a user spilt fluid. Keyboard and mouse don't work, so I used an external keyboard and mouse last week to retrieve data - worked fine. Today I wanted to grab another file from the Mac, but now it just sits at the log on screen with Unlock to Use Accessories, obviously I can't get into the Mac as I am using external mouse/keyboard. It worked last week! I can't unlock as now the Mac has decided I need to unlock the accessories - thanks Apple!
Hello. there I have problem rename my key board ,would you help to rename key board on mac os catalina thank
Rename the keyboard? What do you mean by that?
My Bluetooth on my iMac got turned off and when I plug it in it’s not useable when plugged in this iMac is fairly new so what do I do
Not sure why your keyboard isn't working when plugged directly into your Mac. Is the switch on? If it is an Apple keyboard I'd call Apple Support and work with them directly on this.
Well I am grateful that I know how to turn that accessibility keyboard on. You would think it would be a default. I mean that's the reason we need it in the first place. By a small miracle the coffee dried up and I was able to use my keyboard to log in and the fist thing i did was follow your video to get that option enabled thank you. Now I head to Apple to see if anything else is wrong. Thank you
How long before coffee dry up?
Thanks for your help
This was very helpful thank you
In my case, this worked! Thanks
Thank you so much.
Can any one tell me the which keyboard he is using in this video 2:03
This video is from 2 year ago so it is before the current Touch ID keyboards. It would be this one: www.apple.com/shop/product/MK2A3LL/A/magic-keyboard-us-english
How do you get rid of the caps lock? I can’t sign into my computer because of the caps and the light isn’t even on.
So you aren't logged in, and you can't type your password because Caps Lock is on? Then press Caps Lock to turn it off.
@@macmost caps is broken. When I pressed numbers those signs would pop up. I turned off even rebooted my iMac to original but nothing worked. I need a new keyboard.
@@zvornicanka39 If you get symbols instead of numbers for the number row, then it isn't the Caps Lock key. It would probably be a Shift key that is stuck down.
@@macmost it’s caps lock I took it to the Apple Store. I have to get a new keyboard.
You cannot turn on accessibility keyboard if you closed it before log off
Thank you soooo much! I can’t believe I hadn’t thought of that myself! Your a real life saver!
Thank you so much! You we're answer to prayer! Plugging in the magic keyboard did it, as I didn't know there was a place to plug in. Thank you. God bless you!!
lifesaver thank you. used wireless keyboard with usb cable
2:29 TOU SAVED MY LITE YHANK YOU
THANK YOU SIR
THANK YOU AGAIN
It doesn’t work for me. My mack book says it need to be unlocked to use the accessory. Any other way to unlock it?
What "accessory?" Have you tried another keyboard? If you have an Apple keyboard, have you tried connecting it with the cable?
Thank you infinitely. Problem solved through activating the visual keyboard. Only some letters where not working, so. I was able to avtivate it and type in my password. Thanks once again. God bless.
How you activate visual keyboard?
Worked! Thank You
I've had it where the mouse didn't work but the keyboard did. Is there a quick fix for this please?
You can then use Mouse Keys ( support.apple.com/guide/mac-help/control-the-pointer-using-mouse-keys-mh27469/mac ) to control the cursor until you connect the mouse.
@@macmost Thanks Gary I didn''t know about this. The link doesn't work so I googled it.
@@stephenrowland3775 Sorry, it looks like TH-cam comments took the ) at the end as part of the link.
@@macmost Lol sorted thanks )
Bonjour. I have a huge problem. I’ve tried ukulele to remap my keyboard but it wasn’t working so when to my usual keyboard. I had one file in my system’s library created by ukulele (I’ve tried your methods to delete it - impossible).
After few minutes my Mac was in standby and when I typed my password to access computer, it’s not working ( letter t is dead key).
I’ve tried to reboot, to acess Terminal via Disk Utility ( com + R is not working). There’s nothing I can do. My MacBook is dead forever. I only have an old iBook G4 and I can’t buy usb keyboard. My MacBook is mid 2010 and I already spent more than 100$ to improve it ( speakers, ram, ssd ).
I wonder how many people lose their Mac because of Ukulele...
Try to seek help with their support or maybe support forums specific to that app.
@@macmost that’s an old mid 2010 MacBook. But I will try your solution with an ordinary separated keyboard. Or trying an app that do the job, or trying something with my IBook G4. Merci !
I have access to command + s but it’s useless coz t or m or - or _ and few more keys are dead.
