Yeah, BBQ sauce is way too competitive. The established brands have trust and favor with consumers. If you’re not using Sweet Baby Ray’s, I’m just don’t know what to say to you.

Kevin is ABSOLUTELY right. How come they didnt invest? Kevin is the type of guy who wont waste anyones time. Their are a ton of bbq sauces and unless they have a huge sponsoring or endorsement, it wont work. Kevin says the truth and the truth hurts.
Mark said it best. Not every profitable business is an investable business. With those sales and how much work would need to be done for this business there is way too much risk for the reward.

No Kevin was right, they've barely sold any sauces. Only 5 reviews on walmart. How many sauces do you see when you walk down the condiments aisle and how many do you stop and pay attention to. Almost impossible if you aren't already a brand name, unless you have millions to spend to become one.

He was wrong. lol His point wasn’t that the business had faults, his point was that they shouldn’t be superficially nice to people. The reality is, no one responds well to negative feedback so giving them words of encouragement while telling them why you can’t invest is leagues better than just being an assho- I mean, “blunt”.

This aired in 2016, it's now 2022. Just checked, they're still selling the sauce. They opened a restaurant in 2017 but then it was closed. They're still in business with the sauce though for six years by now. So, they're not done in two years. They're also still in Walmarts. They may not sell a lot, but at least they survive. In this case, all sharks are right at some points.
You are proving Kevin's point right though. Its not an "investible" business with those kinds of sales. Sure it is afloat but there's no incentive to want to partner with them.

They could open a "small" restaurant using their secret sauces with about 10 menu items to start. If the sauce is that good people will come back often and it could turn into opening a few more locations. The Turkey Wing Hut, The Cook Out and Five Guys are a few small eatery examples.
Exactly what I'm thinking. They should partner with different restaurants or better yet 1 big chain that can take their sauce nationwide.

Kevin has always taken this approach, from Dragon's Den. If he sees a business that should be killed within the next 2 years he makes sure to eviscerate the founders to let them know they should quit and move on.
That business will be profitable just not on the scale Kevin think it will which is fine nothing wrong with encouragement from the other investors

Kevin has always been Kevin. It is the other sharks who apply double standards based on the entrepreneurs. That was precisely Kevin's point. They should've been objective with the business owners not babysit them because they are black.
Shark Tank is crazy addictive not because of the products, but because each Sharks got a real intriguing personality that is unique. They might argue a lot, but they keep it rather professional. The tension between all of them is what's most interesting.

Just from appearing on Shark Tank, they are going to have way more sales. The lady even said at the beginning of the clip that the Sharks confirming the sauce is good is going to help their business. That's all the branding they needed. Plus the story about their brother is going to make more people want to support their brand.

I actually appreciate the balance of optimism that everyone gives and the realism that kevin brings, and what i love is that kevin even tho he is the most realistic one among them he is always the first and a lot of times the only one who will throw in an offer, but this is one of the times where the optimism and realism collided

Man i love Kevin... he's the perfect person for these types of arguments because he speaks completely from the truth without empathy involved. Which in the world of business is unfortunately a personality trait that is at times required for reality check.
Yeah most people are too emotional to tell them what they need to hear. But to be fair some things they didn't think would become a huge buisness did.

I think offering sample sizes for a lower price would be a great idea, maybe make a bundle pack. I also don't see why the option to sell in sealed bags for online wasn't discussed. That would plummet cost of shipping and packaging. Could either make the pouches resealable or sell smaller sizes for single use.
They already had a catering angle I think furthering that may be the way to go. If local businesses use it people will be more willing to buy it in store or online
Barbara begins the show by going out before any of the pitches even begin. Having said that I'd love to try this sauce, I bet it's amazing.

They are competing with other billion dollar companies. They need branding which they don’t have. If it’s a hobby in memory of their brother, then that is okay. But this business is never going to take off. Kevin was right on this one.

Netflix wasn't built in a day. Spotify started making profit only after 2017. Facebook didn't make any money till they ran ads. Sometimes a high aim needs patience and stability rather than a huge kickstart.

They can solve the weight problem by putting it in plastic. The right plastic can be similar to glass, with half the weight and far less potential with breakage. I hate buying in glass because it weighs down the grocery bags. They need to partner with certain packaged foods controlled by Walmart. The sisters should try packaging the sauces in single packs to pair with hot/cold lunch buffets.
Plastic is ruining our environment..
Or futhering their catering angle into restraunts so people can try it before they buy it without giving out samples.

A gentleman I know purchased out a local guys bbq sauce recipe. It’s in all the local stores and some around the region. He solved the glass jar problem first thing when he took over the company. He uped the price by 99 cents. He places them in plastic squeeze bottles similar to a ketchup in a restaurant. No breakage and pours much better. No breakage in shipping or on store shelves at all

I checked up on the internet & discovered they had changed their name. They sell 4 jars $20, & 2 jars $10. They also run a catering website, starts at $16 per person. Not on Facebook or Instagram since 2019. Their product can still be sold online & has grown into even more stores!
