Nigel will love his life at Pemberton Farms once he gets accustomed to his new surroundings. Love that a relative of Neptune is coming to the farm. No question that the ladies will love him!🥰😂 Couldn’t see the back end of either bull very well. Boris looked taller and maybe a bit friendlier. Nigel’s build looked more squat…giving him that solid Angus look.👍👍

I remember the very first bull I ever bought. I had enough beef cattle in the herd that even though I was probably 14 or so dad said "Its time for either buying feed or buy bulls" I decided to buy the bull. Was a nothing special bull to breed heifers. turned him out and he literally did what Neptune did. threw out his shoulder. crazy thing about him is he'd pop it back in be fine one day than lamer than a three legged dog the next when he poped it back out. Course you need a good bull all the time so he went to the market and I received pennies on the dollar for him. Should've bought feed......, LOL

3 1/2 years ago the first video of yours came across my TH-cam recommendations, it was about picking Neptune for your farm, I hate that he hurt himself I felt kinda close to him as he was the one that brought me to you guys. I am gladdened that Nigel was chosen, he is of the same stock, and if he gets half the size and shape of Neptune he'll still be an awesome bull. So many of your videos take me home in my mind, we never had a huge farm, but we had 10 or so Charolais that were all descended from one original cow, and whatever bull she found when she managed to break free of her pastures fences. This was not so easy as it was 3 miles to the nearest Home, and they didn't raise cattle. Thanks for taking me back to where I came from.

It wouldn't matter if the new one was a relative in as much as he can still sire calves. He doesn't have to be a relative to be fertile. What you might expect w/ a relative would be similar confirmation & temperament & similar types of calves. I think they're going back to the same breeder bc they like the type of calves Neptune was throwing & they want his replacement to sire similar babies.

A Farmer takes delivery of a new prize stud bull.
The bull is released into the pasture & the bull
goes to work on the herd. After servicing half
the herd, the bulls eyes roll back & he staggers
over & collapses under a big shady tree.
Concerned, the farmer calls his vet.
The vet examines the bull & gives the farmer
a bottle of pills. He tells the farmer to give the bull
1 pill each day. The farmer does so & the bull
jumps to its feet & runs out and services the
rest of the herd. When the farmer was asked what
was in the pills he said :
'Dunno fer sure, but, they tasted like peppermint.'

Do you look at EPDs (Estimated Progeny Differences) or other measured/tested genetic indicators? I am from Canada and always want to know the EPDs before using a bull. Do you have a different genetic measurement system? "Eyeballing" a bull can tell you a lot but will not always tell you how the calves will turn out.

Good reasoning for choosing the bull 🐂
Think about the end product 👍 because there's no point producing stuff that people don't want to buy. Hope he does a great job for you 🙂

Question. Does the new bull get tested for fertility before the purchase is finalized? Is it even important? Just curious about what happens if the new bull ends up firing blanks.

I am curious - Why an black angus bull and not a holstein? you could be producing better milk cows. Is the meat portion of your business more profitable?

Congratulations on Nigel. Do you have any cows in calf from Neptune?

Why did you choose a bull which is related to neptune instead of choosing for fresh blood? Since now Neptune's daughters will breed with their own family right?

We’re not dairy we’re a beef farm so we have lots of bulls and steirs but we had a Angus bull he was absolutely massive he weighed 910 kg and he was only 19 moths old but he was so friendly and he literally got bullied by cows like 400kg Angus breed are great still never trust a bull always be careful around them

Great video from start to finish good change of scenery. Interesting en route conversation. For me it was between 52 & 54 , both up to the trough first , were not spooked by the noise of the trough being hit, at that point 54 took it for me he took handling better. Then you went into the detail of his makeup still 54. I hope your mum’s car returned home without too many scratches. Good to see you on some downtime a weekend away

i dont know why they talk up neptune as much as they do, he only lasted 3.5 years with constant foot problems and eventually now this shoulder issue. That is not an "excellent" bull

Can you do a video about why you breed dairy cows to a beef bull? Also why you really do not respect having a bull in the pasture (especially a Angus) they can be the nicest bull in the world and still gore you. I have friends who have lost their father that way and have seen it done to a family member. You really need to remind people of this in your videos because right now the way it looks is so dangerous.

We had a terrible incident here in Norway a few days ago. Father and son were killed by some bulls when they were about to move them to new pasture

Great video again. I would have picked the other one (cant remember its name) only because the blood lines are different. Is Nigel not closely related to Neptune? Not sure if it matters as it is distant but new blood lines surely would be better.

I'd ask your butcher what kills out best, if they're all going through your shop that is. We've run Angus Bulls for a long time and look for long legs and long spine the stores always make better money at auction, opposed to bigger rumps. Angus Bulls are usually quiet anyway, especially compared to dairy breeds. We like to buy wheeton bulls form john Loftus, keep em 2 years and they have an excellent resale value, and strong feet (which Neptune obviously didn't!)

You have a closely related bull coming and he breeds the heifers from the other one it is going to be genetics that maybe undesirable from related breeding not working out. Is the goal to turn a dairy into a beef herd and do away with the dairy end? A.I. is the safe way with more variety of genetics, any breed and oodles of choices.
