    Something to note: Keep in mind that I'm just a normal guy who loves cars. I'm not a trained mechanic, although my father was. If something interesting car wise comes up, I try to film it and upload it for entertainment and the "look at what I done" factor. Pat me on the back, or give me a "good game" pat on the butt. These videos are meant to inspire other DIYers. Working on cars can be dangerous, even life threatening, if the proper cautionary measurements aren't taken. You also run the risk of damaging your vehicle and or voiding your warranty. If for any reason you feel like the job is too big to handle, I would suggest consulting with a professional mechanic.

    Just got done porting my intake manifold on my 2017 Cruze 1.4 turbo. Thought it'd have those plastic restrictors in there but it actually didn't, Chevy might have gotten away from that, but I still went ahead and ported them about an 8th of an inch. Massive difference in acceleration and I have a 3inch custom cold air intake, catless exhaust, I definitely feel and hear the turbo spool alot steadier and stronger. Pulls alot harder. Thought it'd be alot harder than it actually was. Only hard part was porting each chamber exactly the same, took some time but it worked! Very happy with my gains

    So glad I found your videos. I haven't found too many other people working on the 1.8l engines. I did my intake about 8 months ago and I had so much oil inside it. After I installed it I also did a catch can. I took my intake manifold off again about a month ago to look at it and it made such a difference. I had little to no oil in the intake. The catch can was another story.... almost 600mL of oil was in it.

      Hey! I had the same issue. Did you try adding a one way valve so you're not boosting the PCV system? That was my issue. I'll have to do a video on it.

    • @cmattdabrat
      @cmattdabrat  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree! The V8 Ls guys make some good power on them, if enough boost is thrown at them lol. We'll see how it does. An intake swap will be pretty easy. DBilas makes one but way too much when I could fabricate one. All in due time. I want to get the engine together, break it in, run some numbers, and see what we can improve to get it to serious power.

    • @802Garage
      @802Garage 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Plastic actually has some nice advantages. Doesn't heat soak, doesn't absorb heat from the head, holds boost just fine, lighter weight, and cheaper to replace. Despite personally loving the look and feel of aluminum more, it actually has few advantages.

    Hello,
    Since you are an experte in chevy sonic, i hope you will answer my question 🤲🤞
    After an accident a part of my intake manifold was broken (chevy sonic 1.6 2013 )
    It's the plastic smalle pipe on the left, so i wonder if it's secure to fix it with a glue or not.
    Thanks in advance.

    • @cmattdabrat
      @cmattdabrat  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey! It should be okay. Just super glue it real well. Without seeing it, it's either a vacuum line, or part of the PCV. Best thing to do would be to get a used or a new one. You could also plastic weld it with a soldering iron, and some zip ties. Look up plastic welding.

  • @ralphmenta249

    hey bro, if you dont reset where the variable vain plugs into the sensor exactly, it is gonna wreak HAVOC with the ECU. I deal mostly with VW/AUDI engines that have a variable runner intake and they are a NIGHTMARE if you dont delete the system while modifying your engine. The difference in butt dyno is negligible when removed. Those systems were installed for maximum output while staying within epa standards. Its not worth trying to keep it and integrate it into HP tuners. REMOVE IT
    I just noticed this vid is old. Hopefully you learned before fighting with the variable intake integration.

    • @cmattdabrat
      @cmattdabrat  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for looking out! I'm ditching the VIM and have designed a custom intake. Still tweaking things, but will be on the engine soon.

    Do you have a Manual, if so how would an auto hold up in comparison?

    • @cmattdabrat
      @cmattdabrat  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mine is a manual. Transmissions are generally rated for torque. I'm not that familiar with the auto trans, but generally they can be machined for an additional clutch and steel to handle more power, but they all have their limited before you have to install something stronger and use a bell housing adapter. So far from what I've seen they've held up pretty well.

    • @cmattdabrat
      @cmattdabrat  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Definitely. There's an upgraded case cover that came in later models that have larger bearings, and better oiling. I may sort that out with a trip to the scrap yard before it all goes back together.

    Is this similar to the 1.4l?

    • @cmattdabrat
      @cmattdabrat  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The 1.4 doesn't have the variable runners, and porting could greatly improve the performance because it has "tumbler" walks that could be ported out so it has a straight shot to the chamber.

    • @cmattdabrat
      @cmattdabrat  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Might not be an EGR. There is an emissions system though that hooks up to the intake, and runs to the gas tank. I'm not a mechanic. In your opinion, what is that type of system called?
