yo scotty, I had your same problems around the lower back and my left knee. I solved them by doing weighted exercises specially by doing squats. Before surfing and lifting I usually start with a deep squat isometric pushing with the elbows on the knees in order to keep my lower back straight. You don't need to lift heavy , by squat your core works to stabilize your body and in the lowest point it keeps your back straight. Frontal squats are on another level. Hope this helps.
Shot for the feedback. Ya I got you. Though when training legs if the back is seized then blood struggles to circulate to the legs and one can do more harm than good. I need to get more into the physical side of it. But I just been surfing and fishing. Will get time. Sometime soon.
