Seeing the photographs there made me think it would be nice to have some kind of cards (like baseball card size or bigger I suppose) that showed the soldiers picture on one side and on the back various stats like medals won, kills, time served, along with some history of the man. I collected some baseball and football cards as a boy but this would be soldiers, armies, important figures, some about the various medals, or all the songs, battles, etc, etc,

Unfortunately, nothing on him currently. Have some current signed images from others that he served with, such as Hubert Meyer and some others.

Peter, it appears you've had a wide range of unique experiences meeting all these SS men; while alive. So I would like your opinion on the following; I read an article in the Economist about how a force (ISIS) out numbered by a factor of 1/15 (Iraqi Forces) could conquer an area the Size of Britain within a year. It found that ISIS people would fight till their Deaths whereas Iraqi forces would break after about 25% casualties and in addition it was found that ISIS members tended to have a mentality whereby the spiritual, culture, purity, etc are more important than the materials goods, and momentary comfort. After meeting all these veterans do you see any commonality in terms of mentality based on the above points?

HI Adam, I will aim to answer your query, as best I can.
I would not say that they had that 'fight to the death' mentality, possibly driven by religious indoctrination, that the ISIS people you refer to, possibly did.
The men I met , study and write about, believed in their duty and what they were fighting for / against (chiefly, the threat of communism). They had a strong national pride in their nation (that was the same for the foreign volunteers I met too).
They did not blindly follow those orders though - many examples of them using initiative and disobeying orders, to. match the situation on the ground and those adjustments helped them to 'win the day'.
Whilst some of the fought to the death, that was not an objective, but something driven by the situation at that moment / time. It was wasteful to lose lives and they strived to save lives and fight another day.
Their pride in their country was strong and that drove a lot of the people I spoke to.
Whilst some of them clearly held strong views into their latter years, that is not an aspect I spoke to them about, as my focus in on the military history, not an 'political' leanings, or views. (I was born in Belfast and lived through 'The Troubles', so had my fill of political and religious 'extremism for the first half of my life!).
Hope that helps answer your query?
