      It's hard to buy some of these games now when just a few years ago they would have been within people's budget. Does this now mean that people won't sell their games unless they get a certain price.

  • @billybob884
    @billybob884 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Nice list! Interesting to see that Crusader of Centy has settled down around $1300 (according to pricecharting), I've seen it go for over $2000. No mention for Outback Joey though? I know some people argue it shouldn't count, but it does play on any standard Genesis/MD console so long as you have the controller peripheral (the Heartbeat console it comes with is just a standard Model 1 with a custom shell), and the game is Sega licensed, complete with their seal of quality badge. Also, if you're going to count unreleased games (Lakers vs Celtics), you should count the cancelled Tetris port, which had a few copies stolen prior to the first print batch being destroyed, and sell in the 5-digit range

    • @RetroGamerBoy
      @RetroGamerBoy  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I excluded any games that game with peripheral or hardware that could increase the price and games that had shipped under a hundred copies so Tetris from Tengen didn't make it. But MD and Genesis fans know both of these games exist so I don't think they are missing out on anything.

    Over a decade ago, I played Battlemania Daiginjou on an emulator with an english translation patch. I was honestly floored by how extraordinary this game and it's music was. If I had known that I would get me a Mega SG in the fiture and it would be this highly coveted to having such an astronomical price, I would have snagged me a copy.

    Cool list. Being from the US, it's cool to see what's considered rare and pricey elsewhere. Lakers versus Celtics and the NBA Playoffs being so rare is crazy to me since it's so plentiful here. I didn't know about the licensing and everything puts into perspective the craziness of it all in what can make a game go rare by region. The only game from this list that I'm tempted to want to own eventually is Crusader of Centy. I had the opportunity to buy it from the $20 bin at my Hollywood Video. Looked cool, but I just got a PlayStation, so I went with some used game for that instead. Hindsight, huh?

Expensive but glad I got it before it inevitably spirals further. I’ve read the European translation is better than the US one so we’ve arguably got the better game. Also picked up Battlemania Daiginjo with a bonus from work 3 years ago - still the most expensive game I’ve ever bought but for just over half what you quote here. Just my two cents, but I have always considered that if a cheaper version exists in a different region (for example, the European version of Crusader of Centy), then it's a scam to make people pay $1000 for the US version.
    Especially if you get a region-free modified console, do you even need the overly expensive US version?
    Unless you're a scalper who is only interested in "investing", I don't see the point.
    It's a bit like Sega Saturn games. European versions are crazy expensive, while their Japanese counterparts are usually very affordable.
    If you can speak Japanese or even understand the basics (for an action game, it's enough), just get the the Japanese version.

  • @TBMartin

    Are they worth it or are they at that price because someone on eBay thinks it's worth that price? It's not a regulated market so anyone can say a game is worth as much as they think it's worth. Let's take the two games in the picture that you see before clicking on the video. Them two games were popular back in the day and sold well so they are not what I would call "rare" so how is a popular game worth more than a lot of games that is more rare? My bet is on someone inflating the price because the market is not regulated.

      There are people for sure inflating the price. They are doing it with some of the games that are scarce, this in turn has pushed up seller prices. I believe The Death and Return of Superman could be an example of this.

      It’s not about the game itself at this stage. This is about a collection and people having a display.
      If you want to play it there are re releases easily available, roms, and a bunch of ways to emulate these roms or even play directly on original hardware.

    I try to collect as many megadrive games on my very limited budget. I have just over 50 games now and I'm very grateful for what I have 😊. I like yourself dream of owning some of these games but reality is I'm gonna have to settle for repro. I personally don't think any game is worth this much money , but hey! that's just my opinion 😊. I think the repro market is a great option to build a physical collection, although I've even seen price rises here as well. And 50 games is a huge collection. At its height the software attach ratio was 6 games.

    Hi Mike, I got a couple of question in regards to the adaptor that allows cartridges for Genesis, Mega Drive and japaneese ones???? to be compartable between all these SEGA game consoles that probably have different ports in it. And I wonder if so called "mega key" is a solution?
