Full Frame is a Myth. Here's why I shoot portraits on the Fujifilm X100F

  • Drop in a comment about whether or not you'd love to someday own a Fuji X100 series camera :) Which feature did you feel is going to be beneficial for you?
    I was never an advocate that Full Frame is the best image quality for the price. The Fujifilm X100F proved to me, that the experience of shooting with the tool drastically changes the way you engage with your photography. The X100F is a beautiful camera, and I'm glad to have invested in it to be a part of the way I want to shoot my subjects.
    This video is a quick round up of what I love about the Fujifilm X100F, and a few things that I dislike. It is a niche camera, but what it provides as a portable experience, is something that no other camera can provide. A handy 35mm tool, to help build your vision
    Gear used to shoot the video:
    Camera: Panasonic GH5
    Lighting: Godox SL200 Mk2 (Key light), SL60w (Hair light), Yongnuo Ringlight (Background light)
    Microphone: Fifine Studio Kit

    The difference between the two cameras is that you are closer to the story with your Fujifilm X100F. This is the first time I have seen good color. That bronze color from the background is keeping my attention past three minutes on this video and this is the first video from your channel that I am watching. Your video content and editing is good too! Thanks for posting it!

      thanks you for dropping down your kind words :) Just starting out, and my main aim is going to be to get as many videos out there, before i even try to sit and comprehend what i have to change about my videos :) I feel the main difference between a DSLR and the X100 series, is that, you'll take the X100f out even when you arent getting paid to shoot...which resonates immensely with how you probably started taking photographs in the first place :)

    Great vid and I totally agree with you! A couple of months ago I swapped my weighty EOS 6D equipment to a X-100F and an X-E3 + the Fujinon 16-80mm. I'm totally in love with both of them. The Fujifilm sensors produce image quality much better than the 6D full frame sensor! I do street photography and nature photography on hike in the mountains.

    Hi Vinay,
    Just wanted to say really enjoyed this video. I recently picked up a Fuji x100t and was doing some research about it and it’s brother and sisters before it arrives. This was one of the most unique “review” videos I’ve seen. There are a million videos regarding tech specs etc, but you really captured the feelings the camera brings you, particularly from a nostalgia and real world application perspective, with humor too. Well done and I’m looking forward to your future content!

      Hey Akshay...appreciate the kind words regarding the video :) Been super inconsistent, but hopefully you'll be around for more cool content :) ahh and yes, the X100, X100S and the X100T were pretty great cameras, but i feel the X100f was their first well balanced pro level cam. and ofcourse the X100v takes it up a notch. But just swindling around in the used market, if you get a great deal on any of the X100 cameras, you wont be disappointed :)

    Sold my canon 6d mark ii with canon 24-70 2.8 ii and got the x100v. Best thing I could’ve done. I really didn’t enjoy the canon, it felt like a tool, not something you would want to carry all the time and I’ve shot less and less. Also I’ve switched from shooting only raw before, to now only JPEG’s. The Fuji recipes you can create really changed the game for me, I spend less time editing now and more time shooting. Also the V version happens to be a really good for video.
    Ps: Get yourself a thumb grip, it really makes the camera more comfortable and u can use it one handed.

    Have the Canon 6D too and just ordered a second hand x100f on ebay. I used the x100t for few days and fell in love with the look straight out of the camera (i never edit anything). I love my canon but it's just a pain in the neck to carry around every day...

    • @vinkphotography5418
      @vinkphotography5418  ปีที่แล้ว

      Was facing the same issue with my 6D as well. I love it to bits. It's my favourite Canon camera after the 1dx mark 2. But yes, what the X100 series provides is true mirrorless portability, and i'd rather have a camera on me that makes me shoot more, than a camera thats perhaps marginally better on paper...or drastically worse in enthusiasm to shoot :)

    May I ask…does the rather wide lens focal length create a challenge in portrait work? Of some barrel distortion if shooting too close to the subject?

    • @vinkphotography5418
      @vinkphotography5418  ปีที่แล้ว

      Barrel distortion is a creative conduct, rather than a shortcoming. I personally feel, what barrel distortion can do for character enhancement, nothing can. Nevertheless if you want to minimize it, have the subject in the center of the frame, and you'll be fine. I've been shooting on the Sigma 24-35 F2 as well, and i love this focal range :)

    • @vinkphotography5418
      @vinkphotography5418  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you :) And yes i have use the XT3 as well, and i believe all the other X series cameras with an interchangeable lens, would provide the same experience. The beauty of the X100 series is in the form factor, and the fact that you cant change the lens. If i had to change my lens, i would just carry my Canon 6D. I like my cameras simple...and if at any point the camera feels too overloaded with features, i tend to find it rather annoying :P Just a different perspective

    I suspect it is all on the language!. Your images look 'looovely' and the sensor size does not make any difference as far as I can see as we can get excellent short focal length lenses these days. If one calls the Fuji 'super 35' not 'cropped' the question 'why use it' just goes away. It is amazing how language impacts perception so much over observable reality. AS super35 has been used by Scorsese how can it possibly not be OK to use by us mortals?
