The FujiX100v for Portraits? From a Sony user's perspective.

  • In this video I make a quick comment about why a camera like this can bring a lot of value to your portrait sessions. This is my first camera that I've ever used that can create such beautiful colors right out of camera. I wouldn't use it for the entirety of a session, but when I do add it to the recipe, I find something really special.

    Thank you for the great tip about starting with a less intimidating camera for a shoot. I don’t have an x100v but I do have an x-e4. I also have a Sony a7c that I use a Tamron 35-150mm f/2-2.8 on and that makes people’s eyes go 👀. They either get a little intimidated or they let their “fierce” side come out. 😂 Even though it is not as big as a pro camera.
    I have really enjoyed my Fujifilm x-e4 and the sooc experience. I do love the fact that I can switch lenses unlike the x100v but that means that I need/want to buy more lenses.

    I fully agree. I gave a Sony a7iv for photos and my Fuji x100F gives me more of an organic feel than the sterile true life look of the Sony. The Fuji let’s me not be a slave to a computer or phone to edit to get the look. The look is always there. Also it’s smaller lol

    • @heyramineni
      @heyramineni ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So you’re a slave of ‘the look’ then. Many folks prefer true to life photos. Not everyone likes a filter on their photos.

    I don’t think it’s overrated at all, I started off with the original x100 which started off my photography career and I still use the system till this day on set along side my Leica cameras. It’s all about the color science for me and small form factor. Everything goes on the net these days so my clients don’t really care. It’s paying my bills so I think it’s a wonderful camera 😊 (professional here )

  • @boywonderhia
    @boywonderhia ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I’ve started to do this at weddings and engagements shoots. The film trend has started, and a lot of clients want the “film vibe” but they don’t like the wait for the photos to be developed.
    With the x100f I can capture film like photos even with with point and shoot flash. I still use my Sony’s as my main camera and this hangs on my neck as a third camera that looks like a point and shoot film camera. After shoots I literally tether it to my phone and send them sneaks and post it on Instagram and they are blown away.
    Clients really don’t care if a photo is digital or film, they care about the result. This camera really helps me achieve that.

    Thankfully the successor to the 100v should be launching early next year. I'm not paying $2,000+ for a scalped 100v, for that I might as well buy a X-T5. Hopefully when the newer and better "100z" is launched it will be easier to get.

    good vid!, I had the fujifilm x100f and the x100v and I've also tried the Leica Q2, all felt too clunky and too digital tbh, I enjoyed the x100f and 100v more than the Leica Q2. But still been craving the medium format rounded off look. because with the x100v and Leica Q2 I found myself putting stuff in front of the lens to soften the image and it just wasn't working really, even with black pro mist it was too digital looking.
    Next buy is GFX 100s and Mitakon 65mm f/1.4 :) filmic look with medium format sensor and that's before you do anything in post, so I would rather do that personally.

    @spincity850 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    It's funny how youve got such a true filmic 35mm look with the fuji, normally I can tell straight away when something is digitally shot to look like film but you've really done a super tight grade. Did you stick a 1/2 diffusion on the fuji? Notice your Sony images you provided don't have any diffusion which I guess makes it look all that more digital and sharp.

    • @Chollette
      @Chollette  ปีที่แล้ว

      I really appreciate that! Yeah I pretty much always keep it on when I shoot with the Fuji. Even if I add diffusion to the song it’ll still come off pretty strong. I’m only using a 1/8th black pro mist.

    Cool video but I personally find 28mm to be too wide for a portrait, which makes this camera a no go for me. Many other portrait photographers I know feel the same. Wish I would have kept it though, could have sold it for a big profit ha. On a side note, your clients should feel relaxed no matter which camera you are using, thats a big part of your job. The camera you are using shouldn't matter. If it did, I would just use my iPhone for all my portraits 😃 I have for some product shots with models though, client loved them. But I digress.
