Watched this to make sure I made the right choice with the f for my needs! I really prefer having the d pad and am willing to give up the lcd brightness and lack of wb saving.
Im waiting for the successor to the 100v to be announced, hopefully early next year (January/February) as rumors suggest. The 100v being hard to find might be because Fujifilm is allocating more resources to support the manufacture and launch of the "100z", though it seems like a lot of places will get one last shipment of 100v in time for the holidays. Im hoping the "100z" is essentially a mini X-T5 sharing the same processor and sensor with all the flair and features that the 100 series is known for. It might be a big ask to put a 40mp sensor in it, especially since the new X-S20 still uses a 26mp sensor, but we'll see what happens. I want to see better video functionality and that it gets 4k60 support downsampled from 6.2k with the ability to record longer clips (hopefully 30 minutes as opposed to the 10 minute limit of the 100v).
no one ever talks about the x100t. i’ve been shooting it for months and completely fell i love with the camera. A little older but works perfectly like the x100f and is cheaper price wise. Never getting rid of it but do want to add an x100v to the collection one day.
I really enjoy my X100F. I believe that the X100V also stores the WB color shift when saving the custom film recipes. That would be cool to have on my F, but other than that, I'm quite happy.
For those who are not familiar with the Fujifilm X100-serie X100 was the first one X100S the Second one X100T the Third one X100F the Fourth one The fifth one would be F again so they switch to Romain numbers. Guess Fuji had not expected the serie would become so populair X100V the fifth one. Its not the V but the 5e X100VI the sixth one. Not the V i but the 6e (not out when this video was taken)
I was toggling between x100v and x100f to buy for myself. I already have X-T3 but as Trent mentioned, that's more of like a commercial camera for me. Thanks for this video, it helped a bit.
Could you tell me what the slowest shutter speed is on the x100f? I read somewhere that its only 4secs, but im unsure if that's right, because i can't find anything else about it.
I had the x100f first and I loooved it! It got me back into photography for fun. I ended up wanting some of the features only on the V so I sold the f to buy the v and I’ve been so happy with the x100v….but i do miss that dpad. Also loved the family photos you got! I’m always afraid of having my camera at the beach even with the weather sealing filter.
Yeah didn’t realize how much I like that d pad but it’s so useful on the cams. I guess I’m not afraid of tossing my cameras around in any scenario 😂 if I can’t use it more extreme conditions, I don’t want it. It’s gotta go everywhere with me.
Mate, this video…. Spot on! 🤩👏🏻 thanks so much! Looking at my first photography camera and can’t decide wether to save money, or get the V. The bit at the end where you said the JPGs look better, sold me on the V and really helped. Thanks 🙏🏻 now I’ve just got to find one 😂🎥
Thanks Sam! Appreciate the comment. The V is so popular for very good reasons. Again, the F produces incredible results too but the JPGs coming out of the V are stellar. If you plan to shoot RAW and grade in post, they're going to be very similar. The Fuji look and colors are 🔥 Now like you said... finding a V is quite difficult 😅
@@TrentErwin thank you! 🙏🏻 yeh I use the Lumix S5ii for video and TH-cam but I just want something I can take out for fun and not have to grade so the JPG thing is perfect for me. Total noob to photography though 😂📷 I’ll keep my eyes peeled! Thanks again 🙏🏻🎥
For sure, the V will do just that for you! You'll enjoy having it around. Something about shooting photos is such a nice break from filming, while still staying creative. And the V is so easy to carry. Not worry about any other lenses either. Good luck friend!
Those were shot RAW and colored in Lightroom. I created a preset from that coloring because so many have asked me about it, so it's here if you're interested: trentbyerwin.gumroad.com/l/undertones-preset
GREAT VID! In your honest opinion, is the 100F really that much softer wide open than the 100V? if so what about at F2.8? just wondering if all the negative about the soft lens is blown out of proportion. And also, have you had alot of problems with the F hitting any buttons by accident like the Q or D pad etc...Thanks
I don’t think it’s THAT much softer. Probably a bit, but nothing I’ve noticed on its own. And it depends on what you’re going for. I like softer tones and then if you need some added sharpness then add it in post. But I love the look of the F. It’s going to be a tad slower on AF because it’s older but still very reliable and usable. Never had issues hitting buttons accidentally.
@@TrentErwin true. Guess softness is relative. Btw, What simulation were you using on the 100f when you showed the pics of your kids on the beach? any specific tweaks if any? looks really nice! good saturation and looks pretty sharp

Well done Trent. I got the X100V to replace my X100F. Couldn't bring myself to sell it so kept it as my beater. Now the V sits lonely on the shelf.
Ohhh man, the V sits lonely 😮
I just got the XH2S because the F has been so good to me I wanted great video capabilities with the Fuji look.

You can adjust the LCD screen brightness and colour on the F in the menu under tool wrench/screen setup
