I actually didn’t like Saw 2 for a long time, as it broke the rules of all traps being escapable. This was a tonal shift from the first and left me disappointed. After watching Saw 3 and understanding why it was done that way gave me an entire new appreciation of the whole series at that point!

@@karl_alan Explain how you came to that conclusion?
      The overriding themes of Aliens:
      1. Humanity's desire to expand for profit, even at the expense of human lives = horror
      2. The isolation of Outer Space, the dangers you facing being far outta your element = horror
      3. Being up against an unknown enemy, that is an advanced alien species designed purely to protect the hive at all costs = horror
      3. The paranoia of no one believing stuff till it's too late = horror
      4. All the suspense is as horrific as it is action, the lab room attack, Bill Paxton's death after the huge tunnel battles, Newt being kidnapped, the entire climax etc etc etc = horror
      5. An ICONIC monster in the Xeno Queen
I could go on & on.
Only thing Scifi about it is that involved space & technology. Plus the action is just as horrific as it is intense.
Aliens is a HORROR film first & foremost cuz of the themes, it's Action/Scifi secondary like I said. Point blank period.

I have to disagree with 28 Weeks Later supposedly being practically flawless. The major plot points wouldn't have happened if the characters hadn't been complete idiots. Sure, the whole outbreak happens in the first film due to idiots, but otherwise the heroes were pretty capable. It's difficult to be scared for the lead characters when they're making the sort of decisions Scary Movie was poking fun at.

It was awesome to be THAT surprised yet again. For the longest time 2 was my favorite-now they are probably even with each other. They slowly went downhill for me after that (3 was fine but really that's about it, I can't remember when I finally gave up watching) but I will forever love those first 2.

Does "Scream 2" really have a "strong villain"? I for one still remember first watching the movie in 1997, for the most part quite satisfied about it being ALMOST on par with the exceptional original - up until the very end, and the big villain reveal. Many others scoffed about the whole "Billy's mother" angle. MY reaction to the reveal was, quite simply,: "Who are these people??" The one major department where "Scream 2" was lacking compared to the first one, was the bland supporting cast, that for me turned out to be literally unrecognizable. It wasn't until Mrs. Loomis explicitly referred to herself as "Debbie Salt" that it dawned on me; "oh yeah, Gale Weathers' fangirl". And the name "Mickey" did not ring a bell to me at all until the eventual rewatch. Such little impact had Laurie Metcalf's and Timothy Olyphant's respective performances made on me throughout the whole movie. A far cry from the scintillating charisma of Skeet Ulrich and Matthew Lillard in the original.

    • @Aidan-oj1lx
      @Aidan-oj1lx 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

Laurie Metcalf’s performance is very memorable imo. She’s so chaotic and over the top in the best way. Mickey is unhinged and weirdly charming. Mrs. Loomis not having a huge presence prior to the reveal makes a lot of sense narratively. She couldn’t be in any scenes with Sidney because Sidney immediately would’ve recognized her, and if you go back and rewatch Scream 2 she’s always making suspicious faces in the background that make it obvious she’s the killer (brilliant directing imo). Gale also runs into her at the phone booth minutes before the reveal so I’m a little confused on how you forgot about her. I kinda get where you’re coming from with Mickey, one thing people criticize is that he’s not in the movie for 30 minutes prior to the reveal, but it wouldn’t make sense for him to be in those 30 minutes because those are when most of the Ghostface attacks are happening so…I do personally think Scream 2 has strong villains.

Saw 2 nor Scream 2 are flawless. They're great, but not flawless.

28 weeks later sucked. The story was stupid. Let's go back to London 6 months after a very dangerous virous outbreak with civilians? Lets allow kids to run outside the safety zone, no chance to get infected there. Let's allow a janitor unlimited access to rooms including a room with a survivor who just happens to be his with is infected and might be highly contagious! Let not post guards around the clock just in case something happens like an out break. That movie was poorly written. I did like the opening scenes, but that is about it.

Hot take: The Bride of Frankenstein is a terrible sequel, even by the standards of the time. The comedic elements to downplay any horror are distracting at best and annoying and loud when they're coming from an old lady villager. And what's more we don't get much in the way of musings between Dr. Frankenstein and his creation or what they're doing, and worst of all for a film titled "The Bride of Frankenstein" we only see the Bride in the last 5 minutes tops. Which is a complete shame given how iconic The Bride of Frankenstein has become.
Every year around Halloween watching some of the classics with the kids, while Invisible Man and Psycho are regular picks along with Frankenstein himself, it's sequel usually languishes

How the hell is The Devil's Rejects not on this list? One of the rare sequels that was actually better than the original by far.

i beg to differ and i almost wanted to stop the video …. i hate this fan base that loves Annabelle Creation don’t get me wrong it’s not the worst in the conjuring universe but why does everything think it’s so good. i was not impressed AT ALL! now i can’t too much comment on Final destination 5 considering i hate the franchise (personal reasons lol) but i’ve heard it’s not the best but you could say the ending probably made it a good one i guess … again not sure considering i haven’t seen the franchise like that , just really the deaths! i do have to say because Scream is my favorite franchise ….. definitely Scream 2 is the best it’s major meta it does it’s thing the opening is great and it just does what it does no argument needed lol

Hallow18 is overrated hot garbage. Evil Dead II is silly and not even a sequel. Scream 2 is alright at best. Nice picks otherwise.

Scream 2 over Evil Dead 2? Is scream 2 the favorite, better made, most iconic of the franchise? It's a solid sequel, but not "flawless." Evil Dead 2 > Evil Dead. Scream 1 = Scream 2? Because Scream 1< Scream 2 is very low.
