Love my secondhand shoes! Honestly, if ThredUp marketed themselves as “resale” and not “thrift,” I think people would have a lot less issues with them.
Yesss, I feel like so many people are grossed out by second hand shoes but as long as you sanitize them when you bring them home it should fine! I love my second hand branded shoes!
Girl yessss! Ive found cowgirl boots, converse, flats, summer sandals everything even the coveted dr. Martens. Cleaned them all up and boom you get your bang for your buck quiet literally!!
I love second hand shoes! My dad is a cobbler so I was raised around shoes and know how to tell how much they’ve been worn. A huge percentage of my (way too large) shoe collection is thrifted, but only from in person thrifting.
"Or maybe you're just bored and wanna hang out with me" - honestly I'm not a huge shopper and I mostly watch your videos because I like you as a person lol
Omg some Depop teen deff got you good on those loafers. Qupid is a bargain brand that is sold in lots of cheap stores. Those do look super cute tho! Qupid is always weirdly comfy too.
This was fun to watch! But just my two cents: I've always been taught to never buy workout shoes secondhand, because for workouts the support of a shoe is very important, and that worsens with wear. Also, someone else's foot is shaped differently than your own, so if they have been used before, the shoe has been shaped to their foot, which also leads to less support. That being said, if you use them while cycling, I'm pretty sure that that's fine. But I probably would never go running or do HIIT workouts in secondhand shoes.
And if you’re going to run in them, even more important. Also getting fitted. And some specialty running stores will even let you return them after you’ve run in them if they don’t work out.
I agree! I will buy shoes brand new from sites like Poshmark though so that I’m still supporting sellers and saving money while making sure my workout shoes are supportive and will last.
The white shoes were a Clueless moment. "....a full on Monet, like the painting, from far away they looked okay but up close it's just a big old mess."
ThreadUp does not pay a reasonable price for the clothing. I’ve sent in 2 large bags and gotten $30 for very gently used name brand clothing. I was unaware of how badly I’d be screwed by the buyers when I sent everything in. HATE THEM.
Same thing with Depop. After a sale I would be getting $2 for a $10 purchase. Sometimes not even getting a profit, literally a negative number 🙄. Postmark for me was the best to sell on
I started thrifting because of you . You should try using Mercari app it’s similar to postmark it affordable. Plus I’ve sold my clothes on there it rocks . You get three days as seller to ship your items .
If ThredUP actually paid its sellers a fair amount and didn’t hike the price up SO much I would use them more. I don’t know how Poshmark is “dated”. You can pretty much find anything you’re looking for there.
She said that ThredUP buys the clothes, but they’re a consignment site, and they really don’t pay very fair percentages in my opinion... especially with the new update where they pay you ever smaller percentages on cheap items. You basically get nothing unless you’re sending them items that will sell for over $50, which the average person definitely isn’t. I make nothing on mall brands on there. I feel like they really rip people off honestly.
I have a black version of those Madden Girls I got from Kohl’s and I don’t think they’re a knock off because they’re not that expensive new! Also I def needed this video because I have been wanting to thrift shoes for a while but I’m scared. All of my clothes are second hand besides PJs, but shoes scares me!

Also as an add on you can get almost new Docs cheap on Poshmark because a lot of people don’t want the work of breaking them in and didn’t know it was part of the Docs deal
All my boots and shoes are thrifted. Seems like people just put footwear in Goodwill because they need cleaning. I have shoe cream in most colors and really enjoy returning a shine to them. I do the same with purses. [I know, I'm weird, I'm also old!]
one of the things i do on poshmark, specifically with shoes, is heart a bunch of listings of the shoe i want in my size (as many as i can find that are in good condition) and wait for the email offers to come in! poshmark always sends really good discount emails on listings you've "hearted" or liked and sometimes the price will come way down or they'll lower the shipping! :)
My only concern about second hand shoes is to use them for training as after a year of use they will no longer be as comfortable and protective. I used to always just buy what was in stock at my local store on clearance in my size and covid made that impossible. I personally enjoy puma. I wait for a sale or coupon code put in my size and start at the lowest price. I have to have good shoes bc i work on concrete floors. I am starting to get better at searching for second hand shoes though. Recently got cabelas hiking boots that were used but barely worn. Definately a great way to try out a higher end brand that you arent sure if you want to pay full retail.
I get a lot of boots from thrift stores. I only get used running shoes when I am going to do mud run. If you're actually going to be running in them I recommend buying them new so they confirm to your foot shape. I went to the Nike Clearance store and got Nike Free run shoes for $20.
I had a thrifted shoe fail the other day. The seller listed a pair of sneakers as a WOMEN'S size 8 but when I got them they are most definitely a MEN'S size 8. So they are way too big for me 😩 Usually I have great luck with thrifed shoes, though!
This happened to me with a baseball hat on poshmark. It was listed as a "ladies hat" and I when I received it it clearly had a tag marked youth, the seller deliberately covered the youth tag in the photos. I felt pretty deceived because she had like 5-6 photos.
Have you ever checked out Mercari? I sell on there and I like the experience the most out of all the selling apps. And you’re held accountable and you can cancel if the seller never responds.

So I have seen very controversial TH-camrs (I mean controversial in the sense that their videos get demonetized a loooot for no reason other than talking about sex advice or something like that) be sponsored by Adam&Eve... I never would have thought Carrie would be sponsored by them 😂
Ngl, basically none of these shoes are for me 😂 how do you keep your white sneakers white? My dog-walking would have them black in about 5 minutes. And also I can’t wear heels at all, plus my feet get so sweaty in those open sandals that my feet slip off the side. Someone tell me I’m not alone 😩
I worked in physical therapy years ago & there was a patient who lost both of her legs due to second hand shoes. I know, it’s crazy!!! But she had a cut or something on the bottom of her foot while she was wearing the shoes and then got a infection that spread. So they had to amputate both limbs. I wish I could purchase second hand but her story has imprinted my brain for life.
@@ErinBrookes I guess if you ever do, just look at the inside of it and see if it’s grimy and gross. And then make you don’t have open cuts or rubbed skin that is still open.
I totally understand where you’re coming from, but as a reseller, some of what you said came off poorly to me. I feel like you said only good things about ThredUP, which gives sellers (including just regular people cleaning out their closet) the least amount of the three sites. They also don’t buy items, they are a consignment store who gives you a percentage. I don’t know if you know this, but they give very small percentages, like almost pointless amounts, of the profits to the sellers unless they’re selling $50+ items (which most people aren’t), then they bump up the percentage. You said almost exclusively bad things about Poshmark & Depop, which houses thousands of small businesses who rely on buyers. I don’t necessarily disagree with any of the cons you mentioned about depop (although I think you portrayed Poshmark kind of poorly), but you didn’t really say what was positive. You said what you didn’t like and then added that you love to buy from them, which was a bit confusing. Sorry if I’m not making a lot of sense, I just wanted to offer my perspective! I love your videos so no hate to you personally at all.

So I have seen very controversial TH-camrs (I mean controversial in the sense that their videos get demonetized a loooot for no reason other than talking about sex advice or something like that) be sponsored by Adam&Eve... I never would have thought Carrie would be sponsored by them 😂
I did not know what they were selling at first 😂
@@glitterandconfetti The thing I found hilarious is that they have a section for Adam & Steve as well 🤣 I love that they went all in for the joke
I wish I could purchase second hand but her story has imprinted my brain for life.
oh my gosh, wow.
@@ErinBrookes girl, I know. It’s WILD. I’m just afraid now and I don’t want to be. But her life was flipped so tragically
@@Saltysarah32 that’s so sad. Makes me not want to buy second hand shoes, although I don’t normally anyway.
@@ErinBrookes I guess if you ever do, just look at the inside of it and see if it’s grimy and gross. And then make you don’t have open cuts or rubbed skin that is still open.
Second hand shoes are hard for me to find!
Do you use Mercari?
eBay is my second hand shoe palace! I have got some great deals on there.
Yay Adam and Eve!
the sponsor yesssss get it girlfriend
Madden Girl is the juniors version of Steve Madden so they’re probably not a knock off but just not as high of quality as Steve Madden would be 😊
