I’m British born to Igbo parents. My mum would always advise me to save my own money and explained that there times when the money she saved would help when my dad had no money. In my own marriage, I had to save my own money once I started to realise my husband was abusive. That I saved money is what helped me to be able to leave. Always save your own money ladies

I think married ppl should HV a joint account for bills tht needs both person authorization but they should also have a his and her account for themselves so that way the other doesn't need to know how much is n that account
5:03 made so much sense! I’m definitely one of those people who dated in this year and found love, if it were to be any other regular year, yes I’d be too busy and I’d have missed him. I think the lockdown forced us to really slow down too with life and truly enjoy everything because life is really quite fickle .
A woman having a secret stash is very common in Jamaica. It has come in handy on many occasions! I wish somebody had told me this when I got married at such a young age.
I think it’s necessary for a woman to have some money that the husband does not know about....most times it’s important not to talk about it.
It is 100% important for Woman and Men to have their own money in a marriage. However it shouldnt be something be something that needs to be hidden in my opinion.
If you are with a partner that you cant be open and honest about your finances then those are red flags.
if either them are hiding it, they shouldn't be married. If you cannot trust someone with just money, how can you choose to build a life with them, lay with them and have children with them?
@@RDCFemmes Not always true I have a sister who's husband upon finding out she has money will not breath until the money is finished. He used over million naira to play Niger bet in 2 years, their marriage almost crashed as a result. He uses the money 20k, 10, 2k, 5k every singles day/week until he blew 10m away of his wife's money oh. Knowing her password he transfers and deletes every message she receives from the bank without her knowledge.
He loves his wife, if you are close to them you will know, I am married I and my husband we both call it naked and not ashamed as we spend together and save together but I had to advise me sister, knowing her husband's weakness, it's best not to let him know about her savings.
She assist the home and do all she needs to do, she supports him where necessary for the past 2 years he doesn't know whether or not she has money and their marriage has been peaceful.
So like Dimma said, it depends on the spouse you are married to. Originally there should be no secret, but when you have a wife or husband who is not good with spending it's best you keep some cash away until when needed. I hope you understand.
I think, if you have a husband who is bad with money or you low-key married someone you "necessarily" shouldn't have been with, its ok to have secret stashes.. even for the man.. I have an uncle who was wrecked by his Wife.. he works in the Ireland and sends money to his Nigerian account... They had their personal house but he was saving the money to start an electronics business.. man's worked for 7 good years, came back to Nigerian and there was no money.. this woman legit finished him... She eventually left him.. if he had known better, he would have kept money separately.. the woman moved to Australia and he has nothing now... and before you say, "maybe he did something to her", Just remember that they're good men still out there and bad women too.. her family legit begged him not to chase her out.. they lived together for some months and one day, she just left. If you're married to someone you're not compatible with and can't reason with, then keeping that stash is fine.. however, if the spouse is an overall, reasonable person but the woman just wants to "hide money", we shouldn't start a fight if her husband does the same and vice versa.
Or maybe don’t marry someone if you are not comparable simples!.
In regards to the money topic, It’s should be called ‘your money’ and not ‘secret stash’. I think it is important and healthy for each party to have their funds. Individuality is something that is often overlooked in relationships or marriages but in my opinion should be encouraged. You are an individual first before being a couple. More men should encourage having both joint and separate finances.

I'm Black American and my parents taught me to always have a "rainy day fund" or money outside of my money that is used in my home with my husband. Thankfully, my husband encourages this and will actually give me money to spend or save. In the beginning of our marriage, I earned more than my husband however he has always been responsible and paid the majority of the bills. I think it depends on the person and who you choose as a husband. Choose wisely ladies!

I think women should have their own personal savings. Generally, your man may be aware that you have money outside of the joint money. But everyone needs some form of financial freedom that they are not answerable to, particularly if its money that you are making for yourself.
Especially as tomorrow is not promised and anything can happen.

I’m in the US. The money was called “mad money” ... for when I got fed up either with the abuse to leave 🤷🏾♀️ hopefully I don’t EVER need it again...I believe it depends on the partner you’ve chosen.
