- I bought this Sony PS Mini from off eBay for £29.99. It's not been tested! So I'm going to assume it's got not power and doesn't turn on.... Let's find out.

You could have just put the flux on the chip, held it with your tweezers and plugged it in and it would have just come off by itself.

@@Dammocless Would have required an additional 25C at least, so leave on, have some tea, wait for the smoke alarm, then lift the chip.
@@Michael-jj8gz The chip got so hot on it's own that it would have eventually desoldered itself if StezStix put flux on, held the chip and turned on the board.
Beat me to it by 9 months.
i like how "untested" became another term to say, "it's a dead product" !
"Untested" means "Broken", "F***ED" or "I had a go myself and now it's even more broken", well that's what I've usually found...
Been like that as least as long as eBay's been a thing. Probably well back into the days of classified ads.

I love your celebrations when you get something to work. But when I saw it drawing 3A I nearly screamed "Unplug it now!"
What a fun idea for a channel! So interesting to see him take on such problems and just have to troubleshoot it on his own with no guidance or instructions. Very fun and clever. I love how he said “come on!” and “get in” when fixing a device in the same way my British friends say that when watching football (soccer).

This is the exact fault I have with mine that I also bought “untested” so I will be following along diligently! Already have my chip on the way (plus a spare for when I inevitably f it up 😂) thanks for your thorough video !

I was actually worried about the way you did it because you didn't check the capacitors when the chip was off.
So if it was a shorted capacitor that blew out the first chip, it would have blown out your replacement one.

Yep, it is tricky because if it was on anything but a power rail it would draw normal power until the new chip was added and it blew out the pin (and rest of chip) and shorted it out again.

I bought one of these things brand new for $20 USD on clearance. It's still brand new in the box to this day. I do suppose that makes mine untested as well, though.

eBay's prices are completely ridiculous. I've bought one of these locally (Belgium) for €30, a couple of months ago.
It was like new and only needed me to install the custom firmware to turn it into a capable emulation box.
I cannot believe that people are selling faulty items for these prices...
And a lot of times, the item is cheap but the shipping costs are insane for a defective item.
Typically if you see a crazy price for something, it's more likely that's what people are PAYING rather than what they're selling for. You can only blame yourselves, eBay sellers just price things based on recent solds, so...
The untested lie reminds me of going into a Pawn America once. They warranty all electronics for x amount of time. BUT there was one corner where they had a shelf of miscellaneous electronics that had a sign that said "All work but sold as is." Yeah, sure they do.

ROFL! I had the same reaction at "UNTESTED" ebay items, some days ago I can't resist "PS4 untested as I have no cables"... an HDMI cable and a power cable you can find also in a desert island... long live to liars 😀
You do know that some sellers legitimately can't test consoles right? Like anything, theres going to be nefarious players. But I picked up a lot of 5 consoles from a yard sale last year, and the master system and og Xbox didn't include cables. So I just sold as is. Both buyers got lucky and they worked!
@@TheBrandonn you're perfectly right. A Sega Master System or an old Xbox has proprietary cables for video, sometimes external PSU with non standard voltages or non standard connector. But If you write the same words for a PS4 or this Playstation classic... you're an ebay liar, and you know ;-)

I just bought a broken PSClassic with a burnt RTS5482 chip, I am going to try rework it and replace the chip on my channel but inevitably I may have to bin the whole thing if I can’t repair it. Will see once the new SMD IC chip arrives 🤞
Always wanted to get hold of some broken mini console from ebay or a 8 bit console from wish that looks line a nes or something. Just to gut it, put in a rasperry pi 3b and make it neat looking

what type of flux are you using? It looks like it pours out pretty tacky. I might want to pick some up.
It's not a cheap and easy fix for someone with no experience in electronics repair, none of the needed tools, no replacement parts, and no idea what's wrong.

Well, it's quite obvious when part of the chip is missing, you don't need microscope for that, maybe some light better than £5 Tesco lamp.

Mine went faulty, same symptoms. I had a powered usb hub connected to one of the controller ports. The hub went faulty, the power surge took out the Realtek chip 😢

You probably didn't even have to use heatgun to remove that chip. Just add a bit of flux, connect USB power and poke it with tweezers - voila!

Thank's a lot for confirming this can be done. MAny people that do the CAp removal mod end up with fried Usb Chips.

My ps classic got wet and now the led only remains green even though it is on standby and it shines very little. Any solution?

Some people actually believe these items are untested, for me its the first indication of a dishonest seller - yes of course some will be honest and the item is actually untested but not usually.
It does cut both ways though - I tried to sell an item that was faulty and which I'd been scrupulously honest regarding what I'd done, why it didn't work and why I thought it was BER and therefore only good for parts. I *still* had an idiot complain it was faulty and wanted a refund.
