I was stationed aboard USS CHICAGO CG11 for four years and got off and out of the Navy in 1973 while in the Long Beach Dry Dock. I believe this was the same drydock the Q Mary was in as I did not see any others.
Wonderful video. I was 5 years old when the RMS Queen Mary docked in Long Beach. I was 11 when I boarded her for the 1st time on a tour and fell in love with her. Spent much of my early life paying visits and staying at the Hotel on board. BTW The lady was wrong about her being the fastest Ocean Liner on the water. At the time, the fastest was S.S. United States, took the Blue Ribbon from Queen Mary. And I think I found the SS Minnow at 5:17
They waisted 60 million to remove the Queen’s machinery boilers turbo generator this museum history and yet they destroyed almost half of the Queen Mary this great Ocean Liner is not a big building it is a great beautiful ship . You see hotel buildings many buildings are refitted every 10 yrs and they built these beautiful Ocean Liners after there 20 yrs old it’s time to scrap them what a waste of money and beautiful artwork labor put into them.
Put a yarrow boiler back down in the ship replace her turbo generator water treatment plant put the engineering history back into this great ship . Queen Mary may want to make it’s own water because it sounds very bad the Colorado River they exhausted so much they are in trouble.
