Rancid (band) the Missing Tapes

- In 1994, Angel and I had the unique opportunity to interview Lars from Rancid for my fanzine, Psycho Moto Zine. While we managed to capture the interview on video, a frustrating discovery revealed that there was no audio accompanying it. Fortunately, Angel had recorded the interview on an audio cassette and you can find that in the printed zine. The tapes were carefully stored away, and it was only recently that I stumbled upon them once more.
With a sense of nostalgia, I converted the audio files and entrusted them to my friend, Austin Friend. He undertook the task of restoring and enhancing the audio quality, making it not only audible but truly enjoyable. However, recognizing that some parts were still challenging to decipher, I decided to add subtitles for clarity.
I initially hesitated about sharing this remarkable find due to the admittedly low quality of the recording. However, upon reflection, I realized that it held significant historical value and could serve as a vital addition to the archives of Rancid's legacy. The footage we uncovered is a captivating blend of a live performance by Rancid at the Wetlands Preserve in New York City and our insightful interview with Lars, conducted on Houston and Avenue A, NYC.
During the interview, Lars shares intriguing insights about the Swingin' Utters, prompting me to include a snippet of their performance from ABC no Rio in 1994. At the time I was making a documentary project for Epitaph Records, titled "Faster Than the World," centered around the band H2O.
The journey to recover and share these tapes has been a labor of love, and I hope that this unique piece of Rancid's history will be cherished by fans and enthusiasts alike. - เพลง
PLEASE post the whole show!!!. This is such an important show in 90s punk rock history
Only found the one tape so far but if another one shows up I will. Thanks
Hilarious at 9:20 , guy yelling "shut the fuck up & play!"..so Lars does. Nowadays crowd would've sat through his preaching
This rips. Reminds me of sending $20 to someone from an ad in MRR and getting a tape with a bunch of clips of the band you like plus some extras.
fucken miss that shit. tape trading in the back pages. damn that took me back
I have a habit of more is more never less. And I used to do the same thing when I mailed out my fanzine and loved it when bands would send lots of extras. The internet killed that.
I'm a little too young for MRR, but I did do this at record shows back in the 90s
This is the band that started my spiral down into punk... absolutely amazing. Thanx for posting.
Glad you enjoyed it!
As same to me! Cheers from Brazil!
This is awesome footage, i was at that wetlands show, i have a couple of pictures in storage, angel is a good friend, we hung out with lars at central park, great times , love the old ny in the background.
This is totally badass
I bought the radio radio radio 7 inch and never looked back. I got let's go. Them I got and out comes the wolves. And I got a tank top and a poster. Still listen to them to this day.
To be honest I forgot I filmed them in NYC. Happy you like it.
Was that footage from a Sick Of It All/Rancid tour in 93? Imagine seeing those two bands in a club that small? Probably $10-$12 for a ticket too.
Thx a lot for this chapter of Punkrock history
You are welcome. And there are lots of other videos like this on some of my other youtube pages like Antagonist Movement. Check them out.
Ah, that old tapes when people hated filming Matt, gotta love it :(
I love Rancid. I have their name tattooed on my left arm and the Operation Ivy jumpin ska guy tattooed on my right. Lars is annoying nowadays to a certain degree but the interviews here when he was young show what a sweet guy he is at his core. Rancid wouldn’t be Rancid without Tim, Matt, and Lars. They have 7 great albums and their latest album is good too. It’s criminal to overlook their influence. I love them.
They’re still a kick ass punk band 👊
Back in the good old days when they were speed ballin and making good shit!
Not from NY, but notice the COST sticker on the crosswalk behind Lars in the interview. Famous New York graffiti writer. I think they might be partly responsible for the whole "street art" sticker thing.
Revs and Cost kings of Wheat pasting.
Brian from Bouncing Souls on stage dancing around in the background.
You are correct. I have Brian hiding in the background of other films. Anything Boys Can Do. He is on the bed sleeping during an interview with Skinheads.
Lol that was the WORST cover of Blitz I’ve ever heard.
Awesome to see earlier Rancid footage. Been listening since 93,I love this band! 😊❤
Happy you like it.
Supercool
That looks like Armand from Sick Of It All at the beginning watching the band. The guy with the goatee.

I was gonna ask if that was Armand behind Lars, but saw Pete at 10:10 so nevermind😊
Well yes. They played a lot of shows together back then.
WHAT IS THAT OI OI OI SONG?
The cover? Its either Blitz or Sick Of It All they cover both songs in that set.
@@EthanMinsker OH OK Lars said something about Blitz and Sick of it all
Thank you man
Cheers!
It's Blitz - someone's gonna die tonight

Correct. It says so in the title cards.
Wait... was that Jorge from Casualties on ''Someone's gonna die''? 😂
Looks like him. Together with Bryan from Bouncing Souls.
H20

I did a lot of videos for H2O. That likely why I was filming this show.
