These were the golden years of hellcat records, I remember how badass all these bands were at the time all touring together, gave me the feeling like they all lived on the same block in some dirty Hollywood neighborhood playing shows every night, as a kid I thought nothing was cooler than the hellcat scene but sadly it started dying away in 04 with the bands going separate ways.
the closest thing to a punk doco on netflix that comes to mind is the punk docu "the other f word" when they discuss about being parentless punk kids to becoming parents themselves
My favorite band by far... cant wait to see them next month. Been a huge fan since I was 12 yrs old. I'm 40 now. My life highlights was rubbung tims head and screaming at him in Charlotte 8 yrs ago
Just watched give em the boot and having followed rancid for years I gotta say it was a brilliant documentary and just the special guest as well as performances it was brilliant. Also I would like to say if you have an opinion wether it's good or bad so be it, however people will like what they like.
As someone in their 30s and has been listening to rancid since I was 12, it makes me happy rancid is still connecting to new generations. Welcome to the club brother :)
@@glenmchargue5461 same here! I saw Rancid for the 1st time during “And out come the wolves” which to me is one of the greatest albums of all time...but I think it’s great that younger kids are getting into Rancid! It’s a new generation that is helping to keep the scene going! Also-it makes total sense that someone who could be 14-15 years old in 2020-2021 would have been exposed to this music as their parents would be in my age bracket and this was “our” generations music...
I got handed this DVD as I was being kicked out of a basement I was flopping in as a mean joke but I Fucking loved it so much I wouldn't trade that experience for the world.
@@estebanb7166 Yeah dude! What's cool is I saw them at festival peir in Philly. You bet we got front row in front of Matt and When Tim asked the crowd for song requests, I started screaming "maxwell!"! Tim looks over, points at me and screams "you got it!" And they immediately ripped right into it !
If you read the lyrics to all of London Calling, one wonders what preternatural gift it took to arrange words in such a way. No, Joe was gone far too early, and I think we are the worse for never getting his assessment of Internet and Smartphone culture we currently wallow in.
Lol dude I was literally thinking about Freemasons in rock genres. I think 311 is one of them. Their lyrics, keeping the band name meaning a secret then making up a bs reason for it. 3 x 11 = 33. I stopped listening to them after the 90s but their album covers since then have Freemason written all over em. Makes me wonder how many other bands come up with totally fabricated stories about their how they got famous.

Joe Strummer-approved. When will we ever again see shows this size with so many fans with liberty spikes? For awhile there Punk was really the thing. At the time the naysayers claimed "sellout" just because the crowds tripled in size as they should have. From the perspective of 2023 Rancid selling out seems rather a quaint notion
Chuck Treece from McRad still skates. Brian Brannon from JFA is still pro. The Faction is almost all pro skaters...Cab and Jeff Kendall. Duane is still the OG though.
Upright bass in a punk band? Interesting concept, but all you can hear is the strings being slapped around and no actual notes. If saying that ruffles anyone's feathers, then all I can really say is, tough shit!
dunno bout psychobilly and their ilk eh? even folkpunk got that slap bass sometimes. check out Alley Dukes or The Matadors, or Days and Daze and My Pizza My World. slap bass can work thorough good.
Rockabilly and psychobilly it's different with thos bass strings being slapped. 240p Might add to not hearing the actual notes. Saw a dude rip thru Hybrid Moments by The Misfits on an upright bass. It was sick to see live!
It would be tough to play individual "notes" on a bass setup for psychobilly. They're heavily modified. They're not using standup bass strings. A lot of bands use what amounts to weedwhacker strings..thick rubbery strings so they don't tear their hands up. They're also not using pickups like a regular guitar or bass. A lot of bands just cram one of those old school mics below the bridge. Source: I used to sing for a psychobillly band.
sorry, tiger army is and has always been pop-punk rockabilly. not psychobilly. not ragging on them, and the nekromantix are a great band. nobody will ever read this anyways
Naw, yall way off. Davey rips. Sometimes it's not totally my thing, but he definitely gives it his all and does his own thing. And is often catchy as hell. I can get behind all of that.
Facts: because of what he’s already accomplished, he’s more punk than all of us combined including our families and neighbors. During the Black Sails era, when he basically thought he was Glen Danzig, AFI put out some damn fine music. Then he turned into a girl and the music sucks.
What are you talking about Rancid got big pretty much off the bat dude - you get too big you sell out. Don’t know about you, but if a band is able to move from playing in a room to amphitheaters, stadiums, be known across the world... I consider them a huge success. What more could you want? For them to have been #1 on TRL with Carson Daly?
Tiger Army, never heard of them, apparently my missus has, she claims to be a psychbilly (47 year old mom of 5 and 3 grandkids) each to their own I guess. I'm just a miserable old git, it's just noise to me, but my missus loves this stuff. Earache time I guess. Nah, I'm ok with her music, she listens to my 'crap' only fair I listen to hers
And then The Transplants show up and ruin everything. Love Rancid. Love Tim Armstrong's solo stuff. Love Lars' solo stuff. Love Matt's solo stuff. HATE, HATE, LOATHE that Transplants garbage! Travis Barker doesn't deserve to be in the same venue as ANY Rancid member. Why do they waste their time with him? Blank 180-whatever is a cancer on the REAL Punk scene. He took Tim's talent and turned it into crap.
Blink 182 helped revive interest in punk when it was dying in the late 90s. It seems like the only people that hate mainstream bands are hipsters that care more about same vague code than anything else. Most of the fat wreck, epitaph, lookout, and other indie label guys seem to be cool with the guys from Blink and Green Day.
