  • Detailed steps on how to tie a Turle knot
Used for swinging any type of flies with an up eye hook.
This is what I would consider to be the best knot for salmon and steelhead

You should NEVER fish a hookfly for salmon with a fixed knot, always use a loop knot so the fly can move freely in all the little whirls in the current wich give the fly a LOT more life and obv more fish.....

A++ demonstration! I've never used the Double Turle knot before, but I definitely will after this video showed how simple the mechanics actually are.

A little harder to remove knot remains vs Rio's 'clinch' version. I like Branko's better because it's cleaner/less bulky. Comments on removing remains from fly? I cut standing close and work to pry what's left from hook eye base. Still think I'll use Branko's regardless.

Thanks Joe for the comments. The knot is very simple and what I like about it holds very well with the fluro line. We all know that not all knots work with fluorocarbon lines. I my self use the Seaugar invizx (yellow) line in 12-15-20 lbs with this knot and had no issues at all. Cheers

Great demonstration Branko. What is the name of that fly you are using in your demonstration ? A beautiful looking fly. I've caught 20lb salmon with the turle knot and it held , no problem at all. However , I think one of the best tests that I had for the turle knot was when I hooked a roughly 8lb grilse that went nuts and jumped 14 times , the knot held no problem at all. Thanks for the great video.

Hey Sean. Thanks for the comment. Sorry for the late reply. This fly has no name. It was created by my friend Gino d’Astous. It gave me two 15 lbs fish back to back. On the second fish the hook opened.
