I just started duck hunting this past season and opening day of early teal I accidentally shot a woodie and the game warden came up after the hunt and i was really honest and told him im new to duck hunting and the woodie was kinda small so I thought it was a teal and that my eye for the fine details to identify them isn’t that sharp yet. He appreciated my honesty and gave me a warning and he proceeded to get on onx and show me where the honey hole is. It was a small levy on the other side of the lake and it was absolutely impossible for boaters to come in. He said of im willng to work for it the birds will reward me. It was about 2 mile hike through super thick woods filled with hogs and thorn vines, no trails what so ever, i had to navigate on onx. Once u get to the spot you quickly find out its just an in or 2 of water and thick sticky black mud about knee deep. It took so long to get there that we started camping the night before that way we are ready for the hunt, we even built blinds out in the water with trees. But that spot definitely delivered! At the old spot it was full of hunters and boats, but this spot was just us. Sometimes in the middle of the night we would see boaters try to come in but get stuck in the mud. Other spots we tried the boats would come in late and park right infront of our spread dispute us flashing them with our spot lights to get them to move but this spot was untouchable for those lazy ass late boaters trying to cop in one our spot. Sometimes it sounded like we where the only ones on the lake shooting because we where in the honey hole. It pays off to work hard kids, sometimes the most impossible places are full of ducks!

When scouting, I always try to mimic the hunting conditions as closely as possible. For instance, if I'm preparing for a morning hunt then I will scout in the morning as well. In addition, I will often try to align my scouting trips on the same day of the week because I have noticed that the flight patterns are different on any given day due to hunting pressure. In California, most Wildlife Area's are open to hunting on Saturdays, Sundays, and Wednesdays. Saturday's and Wednesday's typically shoot better because the waterfowl have multiple days to rest. Identifying if the birds are using the location to loaf, feed, or roost is important and dictates how it should be scouted/hunted.

since you started emphasizing scouting i've walked like 3 miles of creek a day and found a lot of good side pools to set decoys in. I've really caught interest in waterfowl hunting. I've only got 2 Canada geese so far this early season but i cant wait for duck season to start here in PA! I know 2 geese ain't a lot but i just got into this year because of your videos. i really like how informative your content is!!!

If that's Quivira , the Game Wardens boss just waved the water rights to the farmers. If the article is correct, they will not be able to pump any more water in there period. They may be still litigating, if so the area hunters should show up at the HQ and raise Hell. The Refuge has the right to the water.

Scoutin public where there are numbered stakes... the ducks fly and land exactly where you can't shoot. They're not stupid.
The marsh I hunt has a day where we can abandon the stakes. For the first two weeks you have to be within ten yards of a numbered stake. Guess where I set up on day 15?

Hey Bobby, it is opening day in 2 days for us in eastern Canada. I often hear you saying "you don't need a big decoy spread for duck". Is putting around 3 dozens too much or is it fine? We will be hunting a large slow moving river surrounded by fields. Our plan was to get 30ish floatting decoy with half a dozen full bodies on the shore and two mojos. Let me know what you think.

@@yolo-qr2fq I like the new Berettas but I myself never bought and/or used one. I have 2 mid 90's Beretta 390's. Gas operated guns so they get dirty pretty quick but I like tearing them apart to clean them so I have never had an issue. Been using my one for ducks for 10 years this season with no issues at all. I've read up on the newer Berettas, basically the same design so I could only imagine they would be just as reliable. Me personally I am a fan boy of the 390 model. On a quest to collect every specialty model they made of that gun. If u buy one you will love it.
