Of the tracks I liked the most were, in order: 1. Upper Hand - a track that is not in a hurry, is slow and shows that the band knows how to survive in the midst of everything fast-paced nowadays. It's my style. 2. Setting Sun - music full of love and hope 3. React, Respond - what a great introduction. Excellent chemistry from Jeff Ament and Matt Cameron. And Eddie Vedder just needs to push. 4. Got To Give. - gives me the same feeling as In Hiding, full of incredible verses. 5. Dark Matter - this is really the song that will stay in my memory the most. 6. Waiting For Stevie - Incredible rhythm, but it lacked more daring as it could have been even better, for example at the end there is an incredible solo, but I believe that Eddie's voice didn't fit well at the end.
I suddenly got your review, and I liked the feel of each song, even though I compared it a lot to Ten, which is always the band's biggest reference. When you listen to the albums after Ten, in sequence, you will be amazed at how this band manages to be concise and loyal to their style and still allow themselves to be bold, even if they don't always get it right. It's part of it. The album No Code is precious to me, because it is philosophical and avoids the grunge style that could pigeonhole the band too much. And Yield is the greatest representation of a band that can do anything without strings attached.
@@punkrockplayer1 I recommend not skipping anything, because the discography in order helps you understand how the band has a creative and intelligent process in each moment and context.
Glad you enjoyed it, good review. If you are wanting to explore the back catalogue, you may appreciate the below guide bro as a reference, although purely subjective 👍 "FAO anyone new to PJ and thinking of giving their old stuff a try, Warning, there is a reason PJ are new to you, they havent really made good albums for a while despite always being a great live band. If you want more good stuff I suggest following below, simply a subjective reference. Start with the 5s in chronological order then the 4s...etc Ten 1991 - 5/5 Vs 1993 - 5/5 Vitalogy 1994 - 4/5 No code 1996 - 4/5 Yield 1998 - 5/5 Binaural 2000 - 3/5 Riot act 2002 - 4/5 Eponymous (avocado) 2006 - 1/5 Backspacer 2009 - 2/5 Lightning bolt 2013 - 3/5 Gigaton 2020 - 4/5 Dark matter 2024 - 5/5"
@jasonarnold2807 no hate for it bro, just little love for it either. Love the band, saw them headline reading festival the summer this album came out. All the above means is that if someone wants to know which PJ albums to listen too, Avocado would be the last I would recommend. To go from dark matter to life wasted would be a travesty and undersell the band. Ten, Vs and Yield, that's where we need to be signposting newbies imo, and after that, Vitalogy, No code and Riot act. Just my opinion though 👍
@punkrockplayer1 I'm in UK and got tickets for both dates here in June. Can't wait! Saw them both nights they headlined Hyde park London in 2022, they were fantastic both nights.
WITH BANDS OF GREATER DEPTH LIKE PEARL JAM NEED GOOD SOLOS, NOT ONLY TO ENHANCE THE MUSICAL ASPECT, BUT THAT THE LISTER HAS A MOMENT IN THE SONG TO CONSIDER IT'S MEANING. YOU SHOULD CHECK OUT THE BAND SHRIEKBACK THIS BIG HUSH.
I LOVE THE NEW PEARL JAM ALBUM I LOVE ALL PJ ALBUMS!! I LOVE TEN AND I LOVE GIGATON ALOT OF PEOPLE DON'T LIKE GIGATON. CAN'T WAIT FOR NEXT MONTH THE 2024 DARK MATTER TOUR. PJ IS BEST LIVE BAND EVER!! VERY FAIR SCORE, THANK YOU!! 😊 🩷🤘✌️
Wow, if you liked those albums you have a heap of awesome albums to discover! VS, Vitalogy and Yield will be right up your alley I think!
Waiting for Stevie is more closer to Yield (In Hiding) than to Ten

React, Respond and Waiting For Stevie are going to be high in rotation for me. Nice top 5/top 6 synopsis!

Seeing what you guys have said about the rest of Pearl Jam’s discography has me pumped to see how I like the other albums!

Why the hate for avocado? Its a great album. Very punk influenced.

Ten is a masterpiece, but I think Vs is a better album..No Code, Vitalogy and Yield have a few good tracks. The new Album is a 7.5-8 range
