But of course if a person is willing to pay they can have as large a lot as they like anywhere in the world. Generally in SE Asia the cost of property is much higher than rents because investment there is all about speculation. In the US rent is about the same as the payment for a 30 year mortgage so rent is the income and speculation on future price is a small component of the investment. So land in SE Asia can seem crazy expensive to some foreigners given everything else seems cheap to us.
