    Nice video. A good way to check how clean or dirty the air filter is, shine a light on the inside. This will show you how dirty or clean the filter is. That's a tip from my dear old Dad.

    Great video! I just have a question - There is a small hose coming out of the air filter box, where does it go? Mine seems to be missing. I would appreciate any info!

    Hi, How many filters does this car have? ( I only know the cylinder one you has showed in the video and pollen filter( aka cabin filter) .
    My aircon stinks. Do you know why? Thanks so much.

      Your evaporator will be dirty, the smell is bacteria that grows in the condensation that forms on it. You need to try to clean it, which is tricky. To begin with you might want to try a simple spray duct cleaner product like I show here: th-cam.com/video/DIaJCg0fBnk/w-d-xo.html
      You can replace the cabin filter at the same time (will be doing a video on that soon).

      this engine doesnt have MAF sensor, but it has 2 MAP sensors instead, you can find them on intake manifold, first on top of the plastic pipe and second one is behind throttle valvle, now how to dismount them and clean them i dont know

    In my 1.4 there's a white cloth like jacket around the cylindrical filter while almost all filters available in market today don't have this cloth jacket. Any idea if this jacket is needed?

      Don't know. Might be for dusty climates.

    I am trying to get to the MAF on the same model and engine layout. It's a pain since it's underneath and the hose from the air filter onwards is rather short and does not allow just to pull the metal clamp and roll back. The MAF is inside and not much space to take the hose of it. Any advice, have you ever done it on this model?

    • @CraigsDIY
      @CraigsDIY  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not sure what you're looking at, but from a brief look at it this engine does not have a MAF sensor - but it has two TMAPs, with identical part no.s, one between the turbo and throttle body and the other on the intake manifold, both are easily accessible.

      @@CraigsDIY hey man, i have the 1.4tsi 122hp in my scirocco. I changed all the filters, oil, coolant, ignition coil, and sparkplugs. The engine still stutters a bit at idle, could it be the MAP sensor? If so can you make a vid on how to clean or change it or something or give me an explanation

    Just a comment on Ripped off at the end ! I'm not a Mechanic FYI But to say all Mechanic's rip you off is wrong, if you own a nice car which is important for your work and family life ! There is a running cost to ownership of that car which is mapped out these days for long term ownership by the manufacturer by Main dealers . We have lots of choices depending when you buy the Car New or used will make a difference to what you do with that Car. I'll give a Family example . If you put your Daughter in a Car your 1st priority is that it's 100% safe and will be for all the time she's driving the car ( It's a Dad's contract ) So brakes and tyres Must be 100% then good general Servicing - it's up to you if you go beyond that for the sake of preparing the car for winter etc I personally like to service in Sept/Oct towards winter and have any faults reported prior to the MOT (UK) Cert . I use a Family Run Garage that My Father used that was run by the now owners Father so we have over thirty years of History with the Business . I've never been Ripped Off They give us a Family Rate on Labour a discount on Parts if they can ! They allow me to provide parts if I can help with that (sometimes I buy Service kits and oil and spread the cost over a few months )
    Like you I like to do some Jobs myself and can Labour cost even if your getting a discount are not cheap £45 - £60 per hour maybe more in a main dealer . Some main dealers have fixed price Servicing on Say oil changes and they can be very good deals Land Rover do etc I was getting a £100 deal for 8.5 litres of oil two filters and the labour all found Inc of Vat £100 Know the costs and even get a quote in advance for the work and choose the Garage you can trust ! There are some bad Egg's giving the trade a bad name but that's in every walk of life . - Main dealer overheads seem to lead them down a path of overcharging .You can always do Nothing with a car! I have some friends that do just that and just keep handing them back every 24 months . It's all about common sense everything I've said is know to everyone but don't blame the Mechanic it's the Business owners that set the rates If you want a Free Muffin & Coffee you know it's not Free right !!!!! A nice thing to do is Tip your Mechanic with the Owners permission for a good job and ask for future advice before they start work on your Car then plan in the work and save for the parts ! it works for me .

    Nice straight forward process. I like it when air filters are positioned well in the bay. Just looking at the box, I have a 1.4 TSI 122 in a Scirocco which id image will have same the same filter setup and from this video it doesn't look like it be too restrictive for an aftermarket cone filter to fit inside rather than replace the whole thing? Would probably be a case of not putting the lid back on, but I wouldnt know if the original design needs the lid to be more effective or if it would be the same as those cone systems with a shield.

    • @CraigsDIY
      @CraigsDIY  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Why would you change it? The factory air intake brings in cold air from the grill. The box seals the filter leaving it open to the intake. Don't be silly.

    so it takes about 60'000 Km's to replace a filter?... have been replacing mine every 15'000

      That's very unlikely to be necessary unless you are driving in very dirty air!

    The very last comment in this video was rude and totally unnecessary . Changing an air filter is an easy task. Oh how you will so need the help of an intelligent mechanic when something awkward goes wrong with your car. Shop around for job prices before you book at a garage, its what most people do these days.
