Hey Gavin, have you ever thought about filming a game or two of you playing these sealed decks with someone? I'd love to see how it plays out after you build it!
@@GoodMorningMagic Maybe you could goldfish it to give us an idea of what the hands and early turns look like? Wouldn't add too much runtime to the video.
Actually opened Eriette and three Stab wounds, started playing Boros until a good player told be Stab would is a killer... I went BW for the last game and deck felt super strong.
Thank you! Definitely helps to get a better understanding on how to build a sealed deck. I just hope my pulls make it easy for me to decide under time pressure. Either way, while it would be nice to win something, priority is always having fun and enjoying the new cards. Can't wait for Saturday to come!
When in doubt play the combination that has more removal. That is my no. 1 observation in Sealed. I take it even further by counting removal spells before looking at the colors themselves, but just having couple of answers gets you so far in sealed.
For me as quite a new player it's always really interesting to see how you analyse these cards! I'm going to the prerelease this saturday so thanks for all the good advise Gavin!
It might have been a good call moving away from green due to the lack of 2-drops. I personally would have been very tempted by the greedy allure of drawing a million cards with Tanglespan Lookout and all the Role makers haha, particularly the Twisted Sewer-Witch with other Rats in play. I guess there's also an argument to be made for splashing white to include the Sugarmaws and Eriette, as the Sugarmaws also serve as 2-drops. You could include the Scarecrow, which fixes your colors while also serving as a curve filler 2-drop and something that can be bargained away in a pinch.
The BW deck is almost perfect though. Literally one good 5 drop or a bomb is all it needs and then every other addition would just be a matter of upgrading like the Shatter the Oath to Taken by Nightmares etc.
As of saturday last weekend i attended my first prerelease ever for Wilds of Eldraine and Oh. My. God. It was absolutely enchanting! No pun intended, but entirely serious as i adored the feel of playing limited, the feel of the environment, and experiencing WoE for the first time blindly like that was so much fun! What a well made set!
I’m new here, if you’re building a deck like this, how many spells do you want to have and then how much mana? I’ve heard 23-24 lands is a good mana count. Please explain more about the idea of the mana curve; I was getting it somewhat by the layout in the video.
I cannot wait until prerelease. And similarly to prerelease, I am saving up a bunch of 6x (or 4x/2x for 2 set blocks. no 3 set blocks) packs from different sets to do a battle of the blocks sealed event with my friends for when we are all in town together next!
@@GoodMorningMagic one less fun part is choosing which sets/blocks to include and which to exclude. i really like bfz block, and kaladesh block, and ixalan block, and new capenna, but i know that i will only be able to play one of them!
How does one find out what the expansion archetypes are? Does MTG/WoTC release that info; or do you have to go through many many cards and figure it out? Thanks! I’m a new player (returning to play after more than 15 years…).
Honestly surprised you didn't include Screampuff in the final deck. You mentioned you wanted another chonker, plus it makes Food to sacrifice to the Sugarmaws.
Awesome video as always Gavin! I'm excited to go to my favorite LGS for the prerelease this weekend and summon witches and faeries. Could you clear something up for me about Celebrate? Does a permanent with Celebrate count itself for Celebrate? Say, you cast a Prophetic Prism then a creature with Celebrate. Does Celebrate trigger?
Good on you for mentioning that opening the packs first makes it easier for event organizers to collect and dispose of the trash! Running events is a lot of work, and I'm sure you made a lot of store owners and TOs very happy by bringing up this little bit of etiquette. I had fun chatting with you for a bit during the Unknown event in Philly! You're always a delight and it's so evident that you enjoy nothing more than Magic and engaging with the community :) (I was the guy on Saturday who lost round 3 to a lethal Leeches after getting too greedy with my Mox Poison, haha)
Thank you Gavin for the content, Wilds of Eldraine will be my first pre release, this kind of video is very helpful thanks, btw I love eldraine Is my favorite plane (the second is ravnica cause hey its ravnica)
Hey Gavin! Thanks for the video on Eldraine sealed. This isn't entirely related, but have you ever made a Cube? If so, would you ever make a GMM about it? Thanks for the great content.
You could easily splash green, specially having a adventure BG card, because if you don't have the right color you can play some part of the adventure. It won't be dead in your hand.
For 16 you need to be okay or even happy in games where you stay on 3 lands for huge chunk of it. I don't remember ever playing 16 lands in sealed since very few decks have that aggresive of a curve (unlike draft). Here Gavin has two Sugarmaws so he needs the 4th land quite a lot. You can also cut a land for every two copies of 1 mana cycling/get a land card (up until like 14-15 I would say), but there are really none in the set (maybe with a few sleight of hand copies you could get away with it).
Actually opened Eriette and three Stab wounds, started playing Boros until a good player told be Stab would is a killer... I went BW for the last game and deck felt super strong. I suck at seeing good cards in black ^^
Love the advice and explanation. I am really surprised you didn’t play the twisted sewer witch. That card is easily the best uncommon in the set and some would say it is actually an uncommon bomb(though probably not in this deck with very few rats). I would probably have played it over financier(better in the sideboard since you can side it in when you are on the draw).
I'm surprised you didn't think about a green splash, especially since you're missing high-end--I'd play the BG adventure creature (which might be worth playing even without the splash) and the GW gold creature.
25:27 why cut protective parents and not give them a second chance? They weren't even viewable for your consciousness to register their existence, lol. Too many two drops? Is there such a thing in Limited?
Hey Gavin, really love your content. Unfortunately, my playgroup will have to skip drafting WOE as the first set ever, as I can remember. The peice of a draft booster box has just become way too expensive. So we're getting forced to build some cubes now. It's really sad not to be able to experience the new sets though, as it is alwaus a fun experience. If excluding the bonus sheet would reduce the price, I'd rather see that.
Errite is so nasty with stab wound. If she is out they can't attack and cost your opponent 3 life a round and when she isn't they creature is dead weight
why are there cards from old, retired sets in the boosters? very confusing, cards like Rest in peace, Stab wound, they are not part of Wilds of Eldraine. I'd rather have another Wilds of Eldraine card in my Wilds of eldraine booster...
As someone who will be going to their first prerelease on Saturday, I thank you for these videos😊
Oh man! Have a great first prerelease!!
Same for me too! Good luck!
Me to😊
Hope you have a great time!
This will be my fourth. Enjoy!
Thank you for all you do Gavin! You are very much loved and appreciate.
This is going to be my first ever draft or sealed, so I really appreciate the raw process walkthrough. Thanks so much for this one!
Have fun! Hope it goes well!
Hey Gavin, have you ever thought about filming a game or two of you playing these sealed decks with someone? I'd love to see how it plays out after you build it!
Sounds fun! It's a lot harder to film gameplay but maybe something to try and make happen :)
@@GoodMorningMagicI know that WeeklyMTG does gameplay sometimes, maybe you could play your deck on there against Blake or anyone else
@@GoodMorningMagic Maybe you could goldfish it to give us an idea of what the hands and early turns look like? Wouldn't add too much runtime to the video.
I'd love to see that. As well as side boarding
Gameplay would be really nice addition ❤
Eriette + double Stab Wound is gnarly. The deck looks super solid!
Actually opened Eriette and three Stab wounds, started playing Boros until a good player told be Stab would is a killer...

I’ve been playing magic for a while now, but still look forward to watching these. Thanks Gavin!

I'm a new player and I'm going to my first prerelease on Friday with a friend, and this video was really helpful so thank you :)
Have a blast! Glad this is helpful. :)
I would've tried to splash red into the white black, for the white/red adventure guy, the 1-2 burn spells and the ash maybe

Yes, Celebration does count itself! So if you play Ash and a prism, then attack, the Ash will get its counter. Hope this helps!
@@GoodMorningMagic you rock ! Thank you
Reminds me of when LRR used to have the guest do a live deckbuild for their preprerelease sealed pool!
You can always play 16 lands if your curve is low enough.
Good on you for mentioning that opening the packs first makes it easier for event organizers to collect and dispose of the trash! Running events is a lot of work, and I'm sure you made a lot of store owners and TOs very happy by bringing up this little bit of etiquette.

Given the lack of high drops, would you consider 16 lands in the final deck?
I thought about it, but with adventures I felt like I'd have enough to do with my mana. Could definitely see going to 16 though.
love seeing u build a prerelease deck
What factors do you take into account for going down to 16 lands i.e. would you have taken out a land to included both Rat Out and Rimefur Reindeer?
For 16 you need to be okay or even happy in games where you stay on 3 lands for huge chunk of it. I don't remember ever playing 16 lands in sealed since very few decks have that aggresive of a curve (unlike draft). Here Gavin has two Sugarmaws so he needs the 4th land quite a lot.

I suck at seeing good cards in black ^^

I'm surprised you didn't think about a green splash, especially since you're missing high-end--I'd play the BG adventure creature (which might be worth playing even without the splash) and the GW gold creature.
Yeah BGW deck looks pretty good don't know why that wasn't even on his radar.
Yeah, definitely. I think he just missed it.
Thanks, very helpful!
Heck yea Gavin!
Love prerelease season so that I can see this
Shout out to Coral Sword 🗡️
Hey gavin, im signed up for your unknown event in Vegas next month, are we gonna be playing some wilds there too?
Mayyyyyyybe >_>
Thank you for the great explanation
You're welcome! Enjoy :D
Very nice video!
Really surprised you cut the Sewer Witch as it creates 2 things at minimum to sack to the Sugarmaws.
Is that playmat from Coral Sword?!
Yes!!
I'm jealous of those rares.
25:27 why cut protective parents and not give them a second chance? They weren't even viewable for your consciousness to register their existence, lol.
Too many two drops? Is there such a thing in Limited?
did he say a warped the goose mother? Oh no i misheard he said foil
my first prerelease mondAY
Before he chooses, I’d go Black White and maybe splash green
I would have wanted to make a WBG deck.
You're not choked on 4's because you have no top end😅 you did catch that though
Lol Reindeer or Rat? A debate I thought I'd never hear.
THANK YOU

easy, cut a land.
