Hi monster! What would you say are the key cards for UB fairies control? From the mana cost of the fairies and the fact they are flyers I had the impression it would be more of a aggro/tempo deck where you'd be trying to race the opponent to lethal with your fliers while removing and countering anything problematic.
@leandromafe You're correct that Black Blue fairies want to race your op and not make trades in combat. Ideally, you'll be swinging in the air unchallenged expecting to win with evasive damage and control to make that lane open and possible/ make sure you don't lose on the back crack. I wouldn't call it aggro though. It's a much more of a control driven deck with smaller hits in the air early game. We are talking 1-2 damage getting in maybe for the first half of the game, and hopefully later game you'll be chipping in for 2-6 in the air after you've been able to establish more of a board state. I don't think you should confuse this with a popular mono red aggro strategy with burn to face and creature removal. This will be a lot less explosive in damage chunks and take more turns to win. It also doesn't have too many good ways to ping damage to face late game to finish it. The reason why I'd call it control over aggro is I believe the focus is much more on controlling the board than getting the win fast. Make no mistakes I think fairies will be great. I like how the build looks. I even love Blue White fairies with more emphasis on tap down. I love the Esper fairies as well. Here's what I see though: I mean obviously Bitter Blossom should always make your fairies black deck. It should just make any deck really. But let's focus on common cards only for a second. The Borrow Naughty is the clutch 2 drop in that it does several things. It stabilizes with a bit of lifelink, and it is one of the few fairies that have a decent shot at blocking. So as a 1/3 flyer it can buy you time to set up your board and control. Again, I see a little less aggro than some are wanting this build to be. Beluna's Gatekeeper is a brick house of a common for blue and even though she isn't a fairy she is pretty great for any blue deck. One copy of into the fae court will always be a welcome top end blue spell in this deck or any blue deck. Surprisingly, I think Living Lectern will perform better than it reads. A 0/4 blocker on the ground can really buy your flyers some time by blocking ground threats. Then later, you can sac it get a role token and it replaces itself by drawing a card. Looks good not great but definitely more playable than it reads. back to fairies. Mocking Sprite is good as a 3 mana 2/1 that reduces some spells by 1. Misleading Motes is a great tempo card to help finish a game. Abyra's Attendants isn't my favorite Adventure but it is still an adventure and still should be respected for its value and played in a fairie deck. Quick study is good. Shatter the Oath is good. Snaremaster sprite is great. They get better the more you have, but unless you have duplicates I wouldn't always just run it out on turn 1. I'd wait for the 3 mana play on it to get the tap down and stun counter. So again not necessarily aggro here. Spell stutter obviously is great too. I don't love the stingblade assassin but I'd play it if I needed more air damage. Black removal is generally good and worth playing, Eriette's Whisper is counted as good common removal. I also kind of love the black 2 drop Mintstrosity. I know it's food but it has some serious value and upsides for a common 2 drop! I'm not going to go over all the uncommons, but shout out to chancellor of tales, Icewrouht sentry, Sharae of Numbing Depths (splashable), and maybe my favorite fairie card in the set Threadbind Clique (should always include even if not splashing white). Obviously the signpost Obyra, Dreaming Duelist, but I think the deck can play without her too. It doesn't need her to do well. Hope this helps.🍻
@user-ml3lg5rj1n If you own it, yes. If your opponent owns the cursed token and they placed it on your creature it's still theirs. You can't sac you're opponent's tokens for bargain. 🍻
Thanks for the great guide! I’ll be attending my first ever prerelease with a friend and am super excited for it. Do you have any bonus tips to get an extra leg up on the competition :)
Nice. I know you'll have fun. Prereleases are really casual and have a festive atmosphere. One of the best things I can tell you is what I said in the video near the beginning. Adventures win games. They just have so much value. Also, especially in sealed, removal is important. Expect your opponent to have at least 1 or 2 game winning bomb rares that you'll need to have an answer to immediately. So when building you're deck, don't neglect your removal. Also, I'm not sure how experienced you are at mtg. But if you have extra time during the build phase use that time to curate a sideboard option or two for yourself. (In sealed your entire card pool is your sideboard and legal to swap in inbetween games.) I go ahead and usually sleeve up my relevant sideboard cards for quick swaps. I don't bother sleeving everything, just cards I know I could want against certain threats. So many people don't utilize their sideboard at all during prerelease. I've been known to write down 2 completely different deck lists and do complete deck swaps on my op in between game 1 and 2 in a bo3, but I don't know too many other people who do that. It's a very advanced level tactic. Another tip related to side boarding that's less advanced is, if your deck isn't winning or working the way you wanted it to don't be afraid to change it! You can always try something completely different with the cards you have in your sealed pool. Prerelease is all about trying something new. Seeing what works and what doesn't. So don't be afraid to pivot to a new deck mid-prerelease. Just try to have fun and not take it too seriously. Prerelease is more about making friends than winning. 🍻
@@mtgmonster8755 Thanks a ton for the advice and reply! I gotta remember that side boarding is a thing. How much removal would you aim for as a ballpark? And I won't keep take it too seriously, I just wanna study up a little bit because I'm going with a friend, so I can hopefully get some bragging rights to hold over his head lol.
@skrubstar9056 The amount of removal and interaction you run all depends on your deck's strategy, your card pool, and your win con plan. There is not a specific number, or even a ballpark number, I can give you as the correct amount. Unfortunately, there are just too many factors that go into deciding the correct amount. But no matter what deck build you're going for I'd try to have at MINIMUM 2 pieces of interaction/removal. More than that is usually correct. But, sealed is fickle. Sometimes the right color for you to play doesn't have good interaction. In those cases you have a tough choice between 1.risking it and going with little to no removal just plan on being the aggressor with too many threats, 2.splashing for removal, or 3. pick a different build entirely in your card pool... Good question though.🍻
@@mtgmonster8755 My friend is also taking me for my first-ever MTG event - wilds of eldraine pre-release. The advice you gave is amazing. I cannot wait to attend the event! Btw, what sort of things should I bring with me to the event? I will take some dice and the MTG companion app
@bumi5466 That's great! For prerelease you could literally bring nothing with you if you wanted, and some of the best players I know prefer to do it that way. The prerelease kit will have a d20 in it, and if you're using the app for life tracking you don't even need the dice. The kits normally have punch out circles you could use for marking +1/+1 counters if you'd like as well. While some people prefer walking in with nothing and doing that, I personally prefer to bring a bag of stuff with me for convenience and comfort. Here's what I bring: 1. Backpack/ bag of some sort 2. Snacks and a water bottle - These events last hours. I like to snack in-between rounds. 3. A few small 6 sided dice to mark counters 4. Sleeves. You don't need them but if you like them bring at least 50. If this is your first time it's okay to not invest in sleeves and play without them. I've played without sleeves plenty of times. 5. *A set of 10-15 basic lands in each color. This is also optional. Places will have a land station that you can use if you don't have basic lands, but I always bring my own lands because sometimes the land station is full of some pretty old and beat up land cards. Further, if you are playing with sleeves I recommend going ahead and pre-sleeving the basic lands you're bringing ahead of time so it saves you sleeving time the day of. 6. (optional) Play mat. Again, you don't need this. Lots of places will put out big nice table mats for prerelease so it really isn't necessary to have your own mat, but if you like your play mat bring it. 7. (optional) I bring 10 generic art cards I can use as token substitutes for tokens I do not have any of. I use the special art cards you get from set booster packs, but I've seen some people use Pokémon cards, etc. Just make sure they are clearly not magic cards. (It's highly likely you won't open every token you need for the set. So these are good and flexible for representing a food token, or a treasure token, or a 1/1 creature token, or a role token.) 8. (optional) hoodie jacket. Even in the summer some stores can be freezing cold. I leave my jacket in the car, but I do have one in the car in case I need to go grab it. Hope this helps. 🍻
Green did okay in my early access live stream. The videos will upload to youtube asap. The second or third sealed pool had a nice enchantment draw card value green deck. It's just not my top pick for colors, but it's playable and good with the correct cards.
Hello, i stumbled upon your channel just now watching the video. i will be streaming arena soon once its on ps5 but i will Never do an early access event i do not see the point of them.
The Early Access, now called the Streamer Event, is important to participate in. But if you don't want to you don't have to. There are a countless of great reasons to participate in the event when you're a mtg content creator beyond just playing with the cards a bit early. 🍻
@@mtgmonster8755 its the early part that i do not care for. i am hoping this is not offensive but in my eyes you are cheating by having accesss to the cards so early. i would not do any footage of play until Arena offically lets me.
I can see that point of view. For me, I see it as a mutually beneficial business plan. Everyone wins partnerships are the backbone of any great business.
@levirynearson5800 lol ya, I'm thinking 1-3 enchantments per 40 card deck max that don't directly add to the board is a good general guideline. Obviously, enchantment removal/arrest spells and/or ones that etb make creatures don't count towards that number limit. But I can see people sitting down and drafting this set, and ending up with 1/3 of their cards being enchantments. All because their eyes got too big for their deck ratios. 😂 As far as role token question, the answer is no. You can't have more than one Role token Aura, THAT YOU OWN, on a target creature. The cards that tell you to make the role token instruct you to destroy the current role token on that creature when the new one attaches. They did a good job printing instructions on the cards. They will tell you exactly what to do with each role token. The only thing that isn't as clear are two different situations: 1. When your opponent has a role token on your creature and then you put your own role token on that same creature what happens? ANSWER: They both stay on the creature. You can only have 1 role token on each creature at a time that YOU OWN. Which means even though there are 2 role tokens because the owners of them are different they would both stay. You can have multiple role tokens on the board at one time but they must be attached to different creatures. 2. What happens if you make a copy of a role token? ANSWER: The copy goes on the stack and as it resolves you can choose a valid target to attach it to of your choice. The target of the Aura Token Copy must be a legal valid target. Hope this helps. 🍻
The Enchanting Tales (63 enchantment reprints) won't be legal in standard, you'll just able to use in limited and formats they are already legal in. But yes, Break the Spell is 100% main deckable, I'd even main deck multiple copies of it in this format.
Its worth noting that Spreading Seas, Blood Moon, Necropotence, Sneak Attack, Land Tax are all banned from limited play so if you pull them you aren't able to play it at the prerelease
I'm not sure where you're getting this information from, but it's not correct. If you open ANY of the enchanting tales in your packs during prerelease, any sealed event or draft they are legal to put in your deck. Period. That's limited. They are part of your legal card pool. None of the Enchanting Tales are legal in standard. The specific list you're referring to are ARENA specific bans. These aren't for limited. Here's the announcement about ARENA bans: "The Enchanting Tales will be available in Wilds of Eldraine drafts on Magic: The Gathering Arena and will be legal in the Historic and Historic Brawl formats. Blood Moon, Intruder Alarm, Land Tax, Necropotence, Sneak Attack and Spreading Seas were preemptively banned from Historic but are legal in Historic Brawl." As you can tell none of this pertains to limited formats.
Send me the link. I'm pretty sure you're confusing historic bans with limited bans. I'd like to read the article/ source you're getting this from to see if I can help clarify things.
@@mtgmonster8755 my mistake. 3 days ago wotc released a tweet advising these cards would be preemptively banned. Goldfish and other streamers released info on their podcasts. However, they have now clarified these bans are only for historic on the arena platform so the cards are legal to play in limited

Green did okay in my early access live stream. The videos will upload to youtube asap. The second or third sealed pool had a nice enchantment draw card value green deck. It's just not my top pick for colors, but it's playable and good with the correct cards.
🔥 vid. And face reveal! 😮
Hi! When are you streaming in twitch? I recommend you put in your bio or community your channel and date! See ya
@sandorc starts at 1pm est., so in about 30 minutes.
nice!.. but what is your channels name? or are you streaming in youtube?@@mtgmonster8755
@@mtgmonster8755 i just do not like the idea of early access, ill partner with wotc but if they give me an early access invite i would decline it.
In real life there is early access also, it's called prerelease and anyone can attend them.
What do you mean I can't run a deck that is nothing but enchantments? Lol. Great video. So can you have multiple role tokens at once?
@levirynearson5800
lol ya, I'm thinking 1-3 enchantments per 40 card deck max that don't directly add to the board is a good general guideline. Obviously, enchantment removal/arrest spells and/or ones that etb make creatures don't count towards that number limit. But I can see people sitting down and drafting this set, and ending up with 1/3 of their cards being enchantments. All because their eyes got too big for their deck ratios. 😂
As far as role token question, the answer is no. You can't have more than one Role token Aura, THAT YOU OWN, on a target creature. The cards that tell you to make the role token instruct you to destroy the current role token on that creature when the new one attaches. They did a good job printing instructions on the cards. They will tell you exactly what to do with each role token.
The only thing that isn't as clear are two different situations:
@@mtgmonster8755 super helpful, thanks.
Good guide
Ahh enchantment
Looks like my best friend destroy evil will be staple again on my deckc
The Enchanting Tales (63 enchantment reprints) won't be legal in standard, you'll just able to use in limited and formats they are already legal in. But yes, Break the Spell is 100% main deckable, I'd even main deck multiple copies of it in this format.
xasn't the Walking dead card had to make a comeback in this set ? i thought so :(
I'm sorry it isn't.
Blood Moon, Intruder Alarm, Land Tax, Necropotence, Sneak Attack and Spreading Seas were preemptively banned from Historic but are legal in Historic Brawl."
As you can tell none of this pertains to limited formats.
@@mtgmonster8755 mtggoldfish and wotc website
Send me the link. I'm pretty sure you're confusing historic bans with limited bans. I'd like to read the article/ source you're getting this from to see if I can help clarify things.
@@mtgmonster8755 my mistake. 3 days ago wotc released a tweet advising these cards would be preemptively banned. Goldfish and other streamers released info on their podcasts. However, they have now clarified these bans are only for historic on the arena platform so the cards are legal to play in limited
No problem. I understand these last minute announcements can be poorly communicated. Glad we could figure it out. 🍻
Whoa! They reprinted Evolving Wilds?!!!
lol 😂🍻
Great video! End... :)
