When I was 7 my dad and I went fishing on the Saint Johns in Fl, he left me on the river for most of the day, I was so scared, when he came back I told my mom when I got home, he got in trouble and I never went again, I was happy too neve go. Sad too leave kids on the bank. It would not have been so bad but I was alone.

I lived in Oklahoma for 12 years, fished on Grand Lake. There's a LOT of meth use there; I know this for fact, as my ex-husband left my children and I for a woman who was addicted to it. He said he left me, "because you won't pay with me and my friends." Well duh!! I made the right choice, and moved back home to California.

@@cherylpemberton1676 Around 45 years ago, I faced a very similar situation. I ended up telling him "Someone in this marriage has to be the adult, so I guess it's me" so he took up with my babysitter. We lived in an American enclave in Germany at the time. Made it bit harder to "move out", LOL, but I did exactly the same thing. My children grew up in Oklahoma, mostly down in the southern part, and it was the best move I could have made. They both are married now and living nearby, with my grandchildren.

AND NOT MOVE QUICKLY ENOUGH...AND DROWN! But some feel that's OK! Better than requiring parents to actually parent. Come on people!

When I was a kid, a family left one of their kids at the gas station before going up to Sequoia National forest mountains. (About 20-30 miles away). The parents told the forest ranger he would get him in the morning. The ranger said he would be spending night in jail if he didn’t get the child now. Some parents don’t care!

Reminds me of an incident that's still recounted in my family many years ago. My uncle and his wife decided to take their seven children to a national park, and her sister wanted to come along with her four children. They stopped for gas along the way. When they arrived at their destination, and started counting heads, they realized they'd left my cousin Jimmy at the gas station. He and a couple of the other boys had needed to use the facilities, and evidently nobody noticed that Jimmy wasn't with the boys when they got back in the car. They of course raced back to the gas station where they found Jimmy snacking on some Twinkies that a nice couple bought for him. Someone had called the state patrol but officers hadn't arrive yet, so they loaded Jimmy up and booked it. I suspect there are similar stories in many large families, LOL. Jimmy's older sister and her husband are down for the Memorial Day weekend, since ya'll reminded me I'm gonna tease her about it! 😂

I guess I was raised good because my parents never left me and my brother home alone or alone anywhere for that matter mainly because we always fight like cats and dogs. Somebody had to stick around to referee. Our local mall even had to put out a statement this past year telling parents not to drop their children off at the mall alone because they said the mall was not their babysitter. But of course, back in the 70s and early 80s things were a lot different than they are today.

There was 5 of us neighbor boys who at 9, 10 and 11 years old we went hunting, fishing and on adventures & Exploring in the woods, streams and rivers unsupervised all the time when we was growing up. Back then our dads or Boy Scouts taught us camping, hunter safety, fishing and many survival skills as early as 5 years old. No one called the law or social services on our parents back then. We was doing catch clean and cook when we was 8, 9 and 10 years old. We camped in tents on our parents property overnight by ourselves at that age also. We was little adventurous survivalist boys growing up because we all had dad’s who taught us to be little men at a very young age. Idk about the kids in this video but we wasn’t fearful of Anything and we all looked out for each other. I think more kids need to be raised this way to make better outdoorsmen and outdoorswomen. This was back in the 60’s and 70’s but Times was different back then than they are today & people didn’t bother Kids like they do today. But I think more kids nowadays need to be taught survival and outdoor skills like we were back then.

Well it’s obvious if they left their kids unattended around a sea of water it goes without saying that the elevator is not going to the top. It’s best to notify authorities and let them handle it. You want to go home to your family without having an altercation. People nowadays do some strange things and have no respect for life unfortunately. Blessings Dutch and thanks for your awesome videos.

do what you did. well done. I ran across a 3 year old wondering around alone in a mobile home park summertime nightgown single digits out side. Had a hard time finding anyone willing to help. finely did. they where scared but did help. called police Mom was sleeping had no idea the child got out. thankfully the child did not close the outside door so poilce found mom fast. I just directed the officer to go one way i went other way house to house my teen son took a different rt. ended well. had i not gone out side that would probably not ended so well. the child was barefoot as well. sunday morning no one was about. God was Protecting her. The child would have got hypothermia in a short time. she was about a 10 min walk from her home it was below 8 out. their where pedifiles living in the park. that was main reason no one really wonted to help. the few people i new where not home. thank you for your action. prayers thank you lord for putting these men in the right place at the right time. Amen

Dutch I'm so happy that you all in OK have some clean waterways to fish from and be able to eat the fish or get in the water to swim. Here in Tennessee there is mostly polluted waterways...all but one lake is posted and warned of the pollution in the western side of TN including middle Tn. It's so bad here. So sad. When we were driving here for the first time mother and I were so excited to see all the beautiful forests and rivers....but found out that none of them would be like the river we grew up on. Shame on those parents! Sounds so dangerous with the way you described how they open the dam and it becomes dangerous to swimmers and boaters alike. As a kid we were all over the Spring River in the Hardy AR area of NE Arkansas. We new just about every inch of it within a day's paddle upstream. What great summers I had with good friends and the local folks that watched out for us...even though we tried to dodge them. lol. It's pretty much ruined by over development and population boom. You really can't go home the way it existed 40 - 50 years ago. But it will always be there in my memories...stored in my soul, not my brain. Thank you for your concern and for helping those kids. I know you would have done anything to protect them Dutch. God bless you!

It is wicked to leave children alone like that. There are so many dangers and there would have been no-one to help them. On another note it’s wonderful to see new friendships made and I also learnt that a soft shelled turtle existed. Thanks Dutch. 🥰

I'm glad you said that about keeping the kids talking and together. I've read hundreds of comments here that say variations of "Thank God you were there to rescue them". And I've been scratching my head, thinking "Huh?" What happened here? The fishers asked the kids some questions, they eventually called the authorities, who didn't even arrive in time to chastise anybody. What 'rescue'? What 'Thank God you were there to save them'?
But your point about keeping them talking is very good, it probably kept them calm and made them feel safe to know there were adults nearby. Thank God the fishermen were there!

You guys deserve medals and a parade! You kept the kids calm while trying to figure out what happened in the way you talked with them. You focused on their safety first, fishing took a backseat. You alerted authorities!!!! 👏🙌🙏 As a mom who saved myself and my children from a violent and abusive father, seeing anyone neglect their children is infuriating and heartbreaking. They definitely need an investigation! You just gained a new subscriber! 🙋‍♀️ ❤🙏

The parents were neglectful and irresponsible. A 10 year old should not be left in charge of two younger siblings. Hundreds of thousands of kids go missing each year. I pray these children get the help they need.

You ever fry em' on the river bank...? Learned it from Inner City folk... tried to teach me how too fish. You ever seen a fish flying on a cane pole... I did. Nothing but fresh fish.😁Peace

I was a 7 yo girl, and every morning in the summer I would leave my home with a can of nightcrawlers, and my pole, to walk a mile to the small dam in my hometown. I would walk out on a spillway that was one concrete block wide, and 10 feet high, and 15 long. I would sit out there for hours, catching and releasing fish. My parents knew where I was, and if they needed me, a policeman would come and give me a ride home! This was every summer, and weekends until I was 12, and we moved from a little town of 2,000 people, to the metropolis of Minneapolis, MN. Good memories.
