you found the easter egg! I noticed it after I cut out piece but since I was just using it for a demo and not for an actual project, I just left it. But you're very observant. :)
Tovah, Can you demonstrate something similar to the set in pleat, but the pleat is on the font side of one leg. Something like a high slit but pleated contrasting fabric underneath.
Love your videos. Will you please do a full video tutorial for a pencil skirt and wide leg pants using a pattern that includes plus size as well as suiting type fabric?
4:28 I hate to nit pick, but when you use thread to mark a row of stitching, that's called thread marking. However, because your stitches are temporarily holding the pleat in place, you are not technically incorrect by calling this basting. But, because the primary purpose is to mark... It really should be called thread marking. 💖🌞🌵😷
Do you have a video of this putting it in a knit ready-wear slit skit? Need to put in a modesty panel on a pencil skirt and thought an inverted pleat would work the best as you have demonstrated here. I was going to attach a lace pleat by machine without taking out the current hems, but am seeing it would probably be better to disassemble the hems first in order to attach the lace pleat. Do you agree or have a better solution? This is a semi-tight short knit skirt that if you sew the slit closed the lady I am doing this for won't be able to walk :-)
If it is a knit that doesn't unravel or fray at all then it should be fine. You may have to take out the hem in the area you would like to insert the kickpleat, just to make it easier. If it were me, I would insert the kickpleat in an existing seam so either the center back seam or if it doesn't have this maybe the side seam. Undo the seam until you get to the top of where you want the kickpleat to be. The insert is essentially a triangle so you can really make your own pattern for this, it just needs to be a little longer than the height of the open seam. And then sew the insert to the seam allowance of the seam you removed and re-hem. You can do it! :)
I did it. Cut a triangle and stitch in place as you said. I gave up thinking I could add an inverted pleat. Triangle worked much better and easier. Thank you!
I don't know why not, but you would also have to hem the pleats before adding them to the skirt. It's just typical, to do the hemming all at the same time and I would think this would give you less bulk at the seam lines.
Just using a Dress Pattern from the 1950's which uses a Dior pleat, watching your video has helped me understand the idea
You make sewing easy. Thanks so much!

I have never seen shirring done like that. Doesnt the extreem heat of the steam iron damage the elatic thread?

yay! I'm so glad it worked out for you :)
Love the video but I noticed your denim fabric was upside down.
Could we hem the skirt before adding these pleats?

I just didn't want you to walk around with an upside down print. Lol
