Absolutely UNBELIEVABLE! Thank you so much to this school for making that sort of investment to train people on a bit of a dying art. I'm totally blown away by those teaching facilities!

This is only the first phase which is completed now the second phase is currently under construction, which is going to be a very large modern automotive repair which promises to have everything that state of the art and current up-to-date all EV stuff

Thank you for a tour of the best Machinist Education faculty I could imagine.
At 65 and still making chips in Australia, I’m jealous of the equipment and set up I Never had the opportunity to play with while at trade school!
Good on you Canadians for taking on the challenge of staying relevant and capable of modern manufacture and helping your young learn real skills .

it is a very nice shop and it’s nice that the whole area is all trades
There has been a lot of improvements since this video is made, and we’re still fighting things to improve

Wow, we have nothing like this huge school engineering shop in Australia. This is like the 1960's tech school, but a heck of a lot more modern, and well just friggin amazing, great to see.

Thank you for the nice comment and it is great to hear from somebody in Australia
I visited in 2010 for about a month and a half and I must say the people were extremely friendly to me and welcoming. Have a happy new year.

@@shopandmathAbsolutely! You can use all kinds of speed/feed values in your program, but there's no substitute for sound, vibration, and chip color for optimizing cuts.

I learned to become a machinist by joining the United States Navy. The Navy’s machinist is “Machinery Repairman” the best decision I made in my life. Not only did travel the world and serve my country. Companies appreciate veterans. Worked as a nuclear maintenance machinist for 37 1/2 years straight without one day not employed unit I retired.

Thank you for sharing is interesting to see how people get into the trades
Unfortunately, the message I hear is that trades are negative mostly from people that don’t understand what trades are
Every time I see a negative add about trades it makes me angry
Thank you for sharing your positive experience

Looks like enough machines to have a class of 100 students. Truly impressive, we need facilities like this in every state and the teaching staff to support it.

    • @shopandmath
      @shopandmath  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Depending on the course, the shop could handle 100 students, but it would require them being in different courses
The mill lathe and bench could do two groups of 45 and the CNC depending on the course 18 to 30

I’d be like a kid in a candy store! I’ve worked as a machinist for over 50 years since the 60s and have my own shop developing and producing products. I never wanted to be a machinist but I’m so grateful for that opportunity. It’s not just a job learned in prison anymore.

Began college right when AutoCAD 11 w/AME was introduced purchased for $200 per student. Having a PC at home, the learning possibilities were endless....NEVER had a prob landing a career having mastered this base skill set. I wonder how many young-uns these days can be pry'd away from mommie and their PS2 games? Then the challenge "Alien tech" of reading a tape measure and following simple instructions.

Becuse after 2 years of hardcore PMT school shops are handing out $15 an hour this isn’t the 1950s anymore bucko personally I’m going back to school to earn a mechanical engineering degree while working at a shop I’m lucky I still I am young enough to live with my parents becuse there’s no way in hell I’d be able to live on machinist salary unless I’m 10-15 years in don’t have time for that crap love the trade but I see 1000% why all trades are dying

That's what I call REAL INTELIGENCE! I teach a small design and manufacturing HS program in Idaho. There are 2 things I constantly tell my students. #1- Every class I took in HS later paid off in life after highs school. #2 AI will never take replace the true hands on trades.

Can you bring up an excellent point and there’s some things missing that people don’t understand or realize either if you get into an apprenticeship, you’re not paying to go to school, the governments paying you and the programs that I teach if they successfully pass the first year they will get $1000 grant from the government Same with second year third year I believe is 2000 but a change from year to year
There are lots of incentives for employers as well, and as you can see, the shops are not with they used to be there’s been a lot of improvements

Wow beautiful shop, it's nice to see such a well equipped training facility. I was lucky enough to have been in the first class at the Seneca center for precision skills in Toronto (Weston) in 1981. Made for a successful start to my life in tool and die and metal stamping. Conestoga has always been well respected for their training and programs throughout the years. Worked with many people that received their training there, all well respected. Looking at all the machines the mills and lathes the boys from Heinmann must have been busy with all those installations, they are a great team.

Wow what a set up. Very impressive and certainly needed today as a lot of the trades are being left behind. Its as if parents and career advisers don't promote the trades as they don't want their children to be a hands on person. The reality is that all of us don't want to be stuck behind a comouter all day. I am a time served fitter and turner here in New Zealand and don't regret one bit of my career path. Now retired I still enjoy working in the blokes shed on both wood and metal builds. Cheers Ian

I am glad you enjoyed your holiday here in NZ. I taught machine shop practice part time at one of our major technical institutes here for many years but sadly more and more of these shops/institutes are closing due to lack of attendance. I also think our health and safety regulations become a big issue as well. I am not sure where all the future trades people are going to come from? Cheers Ian@@shopandmath

I really never paid much attention to the brand. The most important thing is that they’re all the exact same. This was an issue that we had at the other campus

It's too bad they are all the same kind of lathes. there should be some turret lathes, chuckers, speed lathes etc. Give the student a more well rounded view.

In our old shop, we had about six different kinds of leaves. The problem with that is maintenance and tooling.
Doing maintenance on six different machines holding inventory for repair parts is a nightmare
The machines that we purchase as long as they can accomplish the learning outcomes that’s their number one priority

According to abom79's subscribers, HAAS machines are junk, garbage, lowest of the low and not worth going to the WC in.

If they could stand up to the abuse, that students put them through, it must be OK
