Peter Falk also had considerable influence over who he worked with. And, fortunately, most of his friends that he brought into the series were also exceptionally talented.
@@jamesfeldman4234 Yes. Peter Falk was an especially good friend with John Cassavetes. He plays a role of an orchestra conductor/killer in one of the episodes... As far as McGoohan is concerned, he played a murderer 4 times, Jack Cassidy and Robert Culp 3 times and William Shatner and George Hamilton twice...
I wouldn't matter if McGoohan was the bad guy in all 60 something episodes. He's brilliant..

Identity Crisis is my favorite episode. Great story, and the combo of Leslie Nielsen with Peter Falk and Patrick McGoohan makes it superb!

I know this episode isn't in most viewers' top ten , but it's one of my favorites because of
-wild and overwrought, which I like

-I like it when the perp lives a LARGE life (helicopters! double-agenting! top-level espionage!)
-the beauty of the scenes at the Pike
-Brenner's factotum/explosives victim is awesome
-the house
-McGoohan's scenery-chewing
-McGoohan at the moment Columbo figures out about his hairline, with the help of the airplane photo - simply superb

I miss both of those great actors.
The truly great actors know how to leave a little bit of themselves in every character, so their audience can connect to a part of the real person who brings life to the character.
He wasn’t too bright. He kept killing people and Columbo kept catching him.

Patrick McGoohan is one of my favorite villains! He was in several episodes but he was always outsmarted by the lieutenant! Just one more thing 😷

NICE! They (Columbo) used this property for three episodes. 1441 Angelo Dr Beverly Hills, owned for 50+ years(1944-1997) by mega inventor Paul Kollsman.
Double Shock in 73, Identity Crisis 75, and Fade in to Murder 76. I had lived on this property for many years since 1974 til 1997; and met Peter Falk on the later two Columbo's 1975&76. He once came upon me poolside at this very pool - when he walked into the pool area... practicing a line so graciously ... He was always kinda like a Pope. Bless him always.
Unfortunately a lonely guy named Paul Allen bought and leveled the 1923 historical Wallace Neff design house soon after Kollsman widow sold it in 97'.
Hart to Hart likewise shot three episodes and Dynasty had a dozen exterior scenes episodes in 81-82' Fortunately i saved the history to this lost golden age of great men(Kollsman) and women(mega screenplay writer Francis Marion) who created and saved this property.
I know it's Sunday, but I was in the neighborhood. Wow, this was a tough place to find. Remote. LOL

Columbo suspected it was no ordinary mugging because he knew a mugger can get at cash or credit cards to without removing a persons coat. He suspected the murder was comitted by someone who knew he wore a shoulder holster, and by definition knew him personally, and they didn't want that fact to be known. The murderer even admits to Columbo at the end when asked why he didn't put the victims coat back on, he had planned to but was disturbed at the scene of the crime by romantic couples walking on the beach before he could put his victims coat back on.
Patrick McGoohan spoke beautifully.
Columbos aura is basically, I'm gonna really irritate this murderer now before I have them arrested.

@@markmarderosian4025 I did not know that but I'm glad to hear it. I was a big fan of Patrick McGoohan ever since he appeared as secret agent John Drake in the British series Danger Man which later became a one hour series in the States called Secret Agent Man.

I love how Columbo finds it funny that he's being followed. He (correctly) interprets that to mean that he must be on the right track.

Love Patrick McGoohan especially in Columbo, Danger Man, and The Prisoner.
Patrick Has to work hard not to be like same person in each show.
This guy is better off dealing with Columbo than the agency he works for, the CIA. The murder victim who also worked for the CIA said there were rumors in the agency he was a double agent, and when the murderer claimed there was no fact in those rumors, the victim said the CIA don't deal in facts only rumors and he had a lot more on him than rumors.
I remember actually seeing Columbo's Peugeot parked on the back lot at Universal Studios years ago when I was taking the tram tour.

I love watching Columbo and Patrick McGoohan is great but I burst out laughing every time PM ‘spoke’ Chinese and some other made up on the spot language. I rewind and it just gets funnier every time. The scriptwriter couldn’t be bothered to find someone Chinese to write something appropriate that PM could learn phonetically, different standards in 1975 I suppose. However, when Columbo speaks Italian with Salvatore De Fonte it is proper Italian 🤷🏻♂️
You're like me...I believe that speaking someone's language correctly (or the best you can do) is a matter of respect. It is also a lot of fun...learn languages it's worth it!!

Patrick McGoohan was a great actor, not very often remembered. I think he actually directed three Columbo episodes too.

This is the only episode as far as I recall, where Columbo does not take the villain Prisoner. Columbo exposes him in the end though, but he is not put in jail.
Thanks, I will watch that episode again. You are correct, in many cases it's still up to the judge. Some suspects confess, some are taken away. In other episodes it just ends with him looking at the murderer and him or her looking back.
There’s a couple with Robert Culp where Culp doesn’t get taken in.
Morten Gottschalck the one with Faye Dunaway he lets her go.
Watch closely, its very strange. It seems dubbed. Like they did the voices in the studio at a later time. Maybe it was a bad take and they had to redo the audio .

Personally I think it is a simple matter of the audio and video not being in sync with each other. I have seen worse examples of it on videos uploaded to YT. In some movies on YT, the actors lips move almost half a second before the words are heard and continues to be heard for half a second after he stops moving his lips.

There is a way around it. If you download a video from YT to your computer you can use the VLC media player app to watch it back, and in its settings you can advance or retard the audio over the video in small increments until the audio is synchronized with the movements of the speakers lips.

When McGoohan ask "who would be following a cop ?", in the French version Falk answer "Well that's what I'm trying to figure out, maybe a French car lover", because McGoohan drive a Citroen SM. Better in my opinion.

Why the hell did Columbo always have to wear such a thick trench-coat when he lives in Southern California and it would obviously be a very warm sunny day. Loved the guy but, trademark or not, that was often a dumb move.
Clearly Columbo is from New York. So he probably never got used to SoCal weather.

Anyone else notice the continuity error with the orange juice? At 5:56 he removes the napkin and reaches for the handle. At 6:05 his hand is in front of him and then he removes the napkin (again) and grabs the pitcher.

Nowadays, a stringer might follow a cop on occasions when there's a major accident or crime report mentioned on police radio frequencies in order to obtain footage for local news programs.
