    So many of your videos feature you using sources I wish I had. It's so satisfying to see you harvest from issues of National Geographic that I DO have and could use!

    I use baseball card page protectors for my small images. Then keep them in a binder with page tabs for categories. It’s quick and easy to find an image. Good luck!

    Here’s something I do with my nat geos. It’s inevitable that I find the perfect picture that’s on the centerfold. So I take off the outer cover to reveal the two staples that hold the whole magazine together. It takes a pair of small pliers, but once out, it all falls apart and it’s so much easier. Then I can cut whatever I need to cut. I do this with books too. Just separate the signatures as needed.

    I used to try to organize my images, but the cross categories started to cause me anxiety. I found i was happier digging through all different images as it gives me more inspiration. I started using coffee table books to just shove my images in. I can turn the pages and not only use images from the books but see my cut out images, too. I can store them in my book cases or more often then not, on the floor by my feet. Its the best way I've found that works for me.

    Im limited in space ao for small pieces I'm using quart size bags that zip closed. I fit apiece of cardstock inside so it atands up. I add file tag to the top right. Then i add bits and bobs of photos and ephemera. Easy to flip through and see whats there. Hope that makes sense

    Hello Rosie, i saw a collage artist using an old photoalbum for his very intricate and small cutouts.. I didn't try that out yet but I thought it's a real neat idea and you can go through them again and again without destroying the little clippings. I m still planning to do the same, already found a old album on the flea market.. I guess I need several of them though. You know, this type of album with the self adhesive clear foil on top of the pictures which is easily removable without ripping anything.. I guess it it sticks through electrostatic effect somehow but not sure.
    Anyway, i really enjoy your videos, hope you keep it up. You have such a calm and relaxing way to explain your thought process. So nice to be able to follow how your ideas emerge into real collageart. Thank you for sharing! And Greetings from Berlin
    Edit: here s the link for said collageartist.. it's just a short little video, do watch it, if you can (if you don't know it already), I really love his work aswell:

    Although I'm a pretty organized crafter, for some reason I prefer to fly willy nilly with this art. I'm currently using colored pencil tins for the smallest items. I like to just paw through them for ideas. I'm sure I don't have as large a collection as you though. I love your videos. Inspiring and thorough but short & sweet... easy to binge watch 😉

    I have been slowly bingeing every video. I do collage art in my journals but usually just create scenes with girl images etc. I've always loved your style you do but wasn't confident enough to try lol! Last night I pulled magazines out and went back through them and wow! My eyes see images differently now😳 I loved finding new things!! Thank you for that!
    Also my systems are ridic. Smaller images and words are in drawer systems from the craft stores or those units you can put different nails, screws in. That way I can pull a little drawer and shuffle thru. I wish I had a better system for the big items😭 Thanks for your tips!

    WOW! You found a lot of cool images, and I love the feathers and chameleons too!
    Yeah, it makes it hard sometimes, when an image could work for several categories. And, I think some of my categories would have subcategories, if I ever get around to starting my own collage/glue booking projects... (I want to, but I have a zillion other creative projects to get to, as well).... And when there's something super cool on both sides of a page... well, that's troublesome. ;)

  • @madntatted4583
    @madntatted4583 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    So i have been using different size stick on transparent pockets from target(they are on sale during teacher prep lol) and i put them on the plastic dividers that separate my scrapbook paper. They are large enough to be worth the space, i can use both sides and they can still be filed.
    Con of the system...do NOT let it get turned to the side or upside down ...youll lose a day reorganizing everything that fell.
    I would use envelopes but if the casing is opaque i forget about them:( lol

    Have you looked into the ephemera holders here on TH-cam? There's loads of videos on creating them. For my larger pieces such as backgrounds I use a rolling cart from Michael's. However I should have purchased 2! I actually have tons of clipart already fussy cut ✂️ because I make junk journals. I have a lot of that separated in plastic envelopes. After watching this I need to separate my backgrounds lol.

    • @joank8370
      @joank8370 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I also have 2 plastic stackable bins; 1 for backgrounds that inspire me and the other for the rest of the images that inspire me. I actually prefer to go through them to get ideas 💡 🤔.

    I think the "grandma" brag books for pictures would be a good way to store little items. They're the ones that hold 4 x 6" pics. I do like the baseball protectors idea - I have a lot of them for my ATCs, so....

    I have yet to figure out or find a full/ideal system for organizing the images I have. I’ve tried a number of different approaches, but no one way seems to work for everything. I’ve also found that I can sub-categorize/organize to the point that it feels too restrictive for me, and takes the creativity out for me - never a good thing. I really enjoy rummaging through images - until I want to find a specific image I know I have ….somewhere … and then I get frustrated that I haven’t organized them/organized then “enough”. I think we collage artists are always trying to work with and through this never-ending organizational challenge!

    Hey Rosie! I'm not gonna lie, I was hoping at the end of the video, you'd rest your head on your chin, look off into the distance for a bit, let out a Charlie Brown sigh, then pick up your file folder and shake everything out of it!
    Personally, I think the collaging process is a constantly evolving balance of organization and chaos. I find too much organization can take away from the wonder and discovery that happens along the way, so I suggest you try going in the other direction for a bit. Maybe gather a whole bunch of miscellaneous stuff you like of various shapes and sizes into one big box/file/pile and try making a few collages working off of it. The results might not be as perfect or coherent. You might end up using a frog where you thought you needed a flower or a giant shoe instead of the ocean, but maybe that will be fun?
    Also, I find it's good to invoke addition by subtraction every once in a while. Get rid of images you've had for a long time. Doesn't matter how cool or perfect they are, they've gone stale on you and something else will come along to take their place. There's something to be said for using fresh ingredients :)
    Good luck with the move!

  • @sandradowkes481
    @sandradowkes481 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    The only problem with sticky albums is that if you leave the cut-outs there for too long, they're hard to get off. I used to use these albums for my pictures and had a hard time getting the pics out (had to use dental floss).

    I’m about to organize mine too. I live near a recycling center and have scored some really old books lately, obviously from some estate clean outs. There’s also a magazine exchange shelf.
    I’ve tried ziplocks (upcycled from packaging) and coupon/check files. Next I got some baseball card sheets for binders. Sheet protectors, and photo sheet protectors for binders. Idk- they seem too tight for little stuff. I also have some of those decorative cardboard boxes that look like books from craft stores or Home Goods/Tuesday Morning type store that sell department store stuff that didn’t sell on clearance. Those are good because they open up all the way.

    For me, half the fun is going through books to find random images as and when you need them. I guess you could use every single image in these magazines. It's hard to choose. Human imaginations change daily. I find something I picked out months before is no longer of any use to me.
