- Hi there! I'm Rosie and today is sort of a continuation of last week where I wanted to put a skeleton in a boat! I ended up making a very trippy and weird surreal collage with a whole lot of eyes. I really love how this handmade analog collage turned out!

Creating a handmade custom DIY surreal art collage is easy! I share my tips and techniques on how I create my analog collages as I cut out pictures and illustrations out by hand with a small pair of scissors and a craft knife. Finding inspiration from old books is one of the most fun steps to this process. These can come from used books, encyclopedias, magazines, vintage postcards, or anything else you can find lying around your house. I find most of my books and magazines from thrift stores, antique stores, flea markets, Craigslist, or even on the side of the road! Watch as I arrange my elements and try different ideas as I talk through my process to create my final design.
Collages made out of paper have a custom made feel that you can't get from a digital collage made in Photoshop. And, there is an added challenge of only being able to use materials that you have access to!

I was given a load of science and medical magazines during lockdown by a neighbour… the images in these magazines are wonderful for collage they are all abstract and strange of bugs and cells with colourful backgrounds and certainly worth looking into as an idea if you can locate any. Love your Art❤️

I bought a second hand book on Amazon for about $6 called "Colors of the Deep" and it has beautiful backgrounds and pages and pags of amazing ocean images that will be great for collages!

I just discovered your channel and have been bingeing on your videos all day... This may have been one of my favorites yet! Thank you for sharing your creativity and positive attitude with us, Rosie. Oh, here's a tip that may help when you need to move a whole lot of tiny pieces of paper multiple times: Use a piece of Press N Seal to hold them all in place (it's slightly sticky, but not enough to adhere to them permanently). You can then lift the piece in one go, place it over different backgrounds to see how it looks without having to move each tiny piece around. This wonderfully crafty lady called Jennifer Mcguire shared this tip on her channel for working with die-cut pieces of paper, but it works really well for magazine cutouts too!

I love eyes too and my plan is to make a set of wings for a paper doll with the eyes as the feathers! Ive been collecting them for a while and I think Im close to enough. Oh, how about using the eyes as fish and add tails to them! Oh, so many eye ideas!

I have an eyeball magazine delivered to my house every month. Apparently the previous resident was an opthamologist or something. I am tempted to make a collage of diseased eyeballs.
Just my 3¢....... BUT. ... In general I always really like the collages I see where the person mixes color with black and white either either objects or background . Them being so completely opposite of each other. It's just striking visually .
But when I try to do it myself I find it very difficult to create any collage that looks like them. Because I feel if it's color all the parts should be color and the sane with black and white.
Like I like knowing the items have been put together and they were never all together in the picture at the same time . But my work I always end up going with all the same so that it does look like all the items were together at the sane time .
It's very weird as I'm very aware of it being collages that I really like visually and am more drawn to , but not able to let myself create those types because my mind seeks to feel that my work must look the same or as close to it as possible... Who knows .

Hi Rosy, this was surreally interesting, it turned out cool. I liked also the option in black and white! Is there any kind of message behind??? Oh I love these thoughts! I guess I wasn't thinking anything that deep, but maybe just that the skeleton was constantly thinking about how he missed having real eyes now that he is a skeleton. But I like your ideas!!
